- Using “friend of the court” briefs, the NRA has cloned itself to amplify its voice before the Supreme Court, just as other front groups have done in cases that matter most to big right-wing donors. Here’s how the Scheme works:

He's too competent and not populist enough. He has the talent, intelligence, and honor to make a great U.S. President, but the campaigning and media process would eat him up. For the media he'll be too boring and they'll start creating their own narrative and controversies. It will be Al Gore all over again.
@@marshcreek4355 - yes, people think this is a popularity contest when it isn't. People are supposed to vote for who has the most knowlege, experience, morals and best ideas on how to steer the country and world in the correct direction and be a great negotiator with all inside and outside the country. However, Sen. Whitehouse has said he's content to stay where he is doing what he's doing, which I agree, but still think he'd make a great president and with the name Whitehouse, I think it was meant to be. Been saying this for years.
People should start paying attention to their primary elections, so we don't get so many totally unqualified candidates. Long, long gone are the days when we could trust only qualified people to run for office. And for sure we need 60 Democratic Senators to get rid of the big money we have in elections. Imagine how much we could have to spend and how much we could help the other countries who are struggling, if elections didn't cost more than our national debt.
Senator Whitehouse is just astonishing. Brilliant, articulate, hugely intelligent and dedicated.
If only he could be cloned, your House, Congress and White House would be the bodies that your country and the world needs so badly now.

Need to get rid of Citizens United, PAC $, electoral college, filibuster, add 4 more justices, protect voting rights, ETC. We can't have politicians bought and paid for and owned and beholden to somebody or something.
The only way it can be done now after the SC has said it was ok, is through legislation. It benefits Repubs. They will not lift a finger to get rid of their breadbasket. We need more Democratic Senators and Reps who are mainly "for the people" and not for their own pockets. The filibuster also has to go.

I've known Sheldon since I was 13 years-old. In my entire life, I don't think I've ever met a man so sincere in his beliefs, so dedicated to the pursuit of verifiable facts (however inconvenient they may be), so committed to the health and longevity of our nation. I can tell you first-hand, he is the real deal. And while I've urged him over the decades to consider running for president, he has remained firm that being commander in chief is not something that interests him. He has no lust for power. He simply wants to serve his country in the effective way he can. I gotta say, in spite of everything we are going through at this awful, most divisive moment in our history, this man represents the very best of what we can reasonably hope to achieve-and somehow manages to rekindle my shattered patriotism. Sheldon, I doff my hat.

Well said. I've felt the same, but in light of his feelings and ambitions, we just need more of him AND others who have elected influence to listen to him and wake up. It's our country, don't let them take it away.

@@uptick888 I realize I may have sounded a bit fawning earlier, but I wasn't being hyperbolic. Sheldon is a genuinely decent man with actual humanistic ideals and a furiously scrupulous mind. Al Franken wasn't being glib years ago when he said that, of all the lawmakers he'd known and worked with, he was "most in awe of Sheldon Whitehouse."
Sen. Sheldon Whithouse's genuine honesty is clear to me. His sincere efforts to educate the public - and his colleagues - is admirable and necessary. This country needs more public servants with his high quality standards and efforts.

Just verify it with the N.R.O. and and contact all generals of this country to see if I'm wrong or right. It's about a 30 mi radius from my houses all over the place mostly every house is a trap house. Okay, jokes aside - Expand the court
And/or have Congress change the laws and we can relitigate the cases' constitutionality. Another is to make the argument for how the rulings/laws they're based on do violate the Constitution. And if that fails and it is something of pressing interest, find enough support to get an Amendment (after repubs are voted to a smaller minority and/or sane Republicans are back)

Impeachment but good fucking luck with that when you have the entire Republican party not giving two shits. I'd make a joke that they could literally commit sexual assault and they'd still let them on the court, but 2/9 Justices were credibly accused of doing just that and they were waved on.

Republicans bitch about "Democrats want to change the number, it hasn't changed since 1869 blah blah." Funny, back in oh 2016 the Republicans changed the number from 9 to 8 when they told Obama to go fuck himself and not allow him to use his constitutionally given powers to appoint Merrick Garland.
