    I'm fortunate, that I live about 10 minutes from a great outdoor range. The range masters are really level headed and don't care what you're doing, provided you're doing it in a safe manner. I carry onsite concealed while there, shoot as fast as I can pull the trigger, etc. Family owned and operated. I'd prefer to be out in the wild, but I'll gladly support the local business if I can't get away. Thanks for another great post my man!

    Nice man. A few buddies and I are headed out to the desert by Ridgecrest Oct 20-23 for a camping/shooting trip. We'll be setting up a dualing tree, clay thrower, prone area and bench rest spot with targets out at 600, 700 and 800 yards! Love it out there.

  • @xelastar
    @xelastar 6 років тому +15

    This is the problem in Texas. It's gun friendly but you have to own property to shoot outside of the range since all of Texas is private land for the most part.

    • @Mike-zx7lq
      @Mike-zx7lq 6 років тому +17

      Plenty of "Public" land... that is strictly controlled by the US Federal Govt (like Big Bend), or one of the 125 state parks. In any case, no shooting allowed anywhere. You either have money to get your own land (which you of course never own, because the local Authority will kick you off if you don't pay rent for the rest of your life ), or get fucked. Texas is not nearly as gun-friendly as most people make it out to be.

Anytime I go to a location that's trashed, me and my buddies will clean it the best we can before we go hot. We also don't want to get hassled if Mr. Ranger decides to pay a visit. My buddies and I invested in steel targets and reusable target stands a few years ago so the only thing left behind is our tire tracks and the faint smell of gun powder and Tannerite.

    That's a big advantage about living in the western states, in the Midwest at least where I live there is no place to shoot except ranges often with strict rules unless you own land that you can shoot on. Three seconds between shots, no shot size larger than #6 birdshot for shotguns, no steel targets, paper only on designated target stands is the rule at every range except indoor ones where the tree second rule does not apply. Also there is only two ranges that are private ones that go past 100 yards and the closest is a two hour drive from me so it's not worth the yearly fees, it only goes to three hundred yards and another goes to 500 yards but is farther away and has an even higher annual membership fee.

  • @8thid12thaco.3
    @8thid12thaco.3 8 років тому +112

    Just a friendly FYI, please keep those who belong in the indoor ranges please. it takes a special breed who respects the desert and its environment. the issue at hand is all the garbage that is hauled out to the desert to shoot at, destroyed and then left behind, propane tanks, glass, refrigerator's , microwaves, Brass and countless other items. these area then pile up with items that can be easily picked up and hauled out the same way it came in. if you could please cover this in a video, I am positive you have witnessed this at first hand and understand what's being asked, this may insure the future shooting spots for all of us to enjoy. I WOULD HATE TO SEE ALL THESE AREAS CLOSED BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF CLEANING UP AFTER OUR SELVES, California is notorious for this and would love to slow us down. I believe in our 2nd amendment rights. I'm incredibly grateful that 15-20 minutes from where I live is a massive 1,100 acre outdoor shooting facility, complete with a 1,000 yard high power range (.50BMG is the biggest you're allowed), SWAT training facility (can be used when SWAT isn't training), and a beautiful shotgun range with 2 trap, 1 skeet, and 1 5-stand. Had 50 yard pistol and interactive plinking ranges, and a general purpose 450 yard range with about 20 bays.
    Also has some other awesome stuff like a mock up wild West main street for practicing your cowboy trick shooting with revolvers and lever actions, as well as a primitive black powder and archery range. Totally run by volunteers such as myself, which keeps guest fees a low $10 for the whole day, or $50 ($75 couples) yearly memberships.
    I lived in Chiraq (Chicago, for the uninitiated) for 30 miserable years where even owning a gun was extremely restricted, and then you only had shitty indoor ranges. When I finally moved out here a couple years ago, it felt like I finally moved to America for the first time. I went to get a CPL (concealed pistol license), and the cops smiled and praised me for wanting to take on the responsibility of concealed carry. They told me about that glorious range, and let me know that in this town, citizens are encouraged to own and train with their guns, because the police can't be everywhere, and they genuinely wish for this town to be safe and peaceful (and it really is). I'm not ashamed to say I almost cried, as it was such a welcoming and all-American attitude, something I thought had been lost to the 1950s and only existed in stories my dad told me about before people started demonizing firearm ownership.
    So like I said, I'm truly grateful for the freedom I have out here, and I really hope y'all in California someday taste liberty for the first time, too.

    Minnesotan here, I grew up only shooting at a local gravel pit. The same pit is now posted no trespassing, but all you have to do is call the local PD and say-"I'm going to sight in my rifle." They say, "okay, just pick up your brass and any soda (pop, for fellow Minnesotans) cans. Clean up after yourself, and you're fine." Most of our camping these days is in state forest lands where it's kind of an honor system. Public land, use it, love it, and be a good steward and we're all good.

I pulled up to a spot and read the stick in front of me and it didn't say anything about no shooting but the one to the left and the other to the right about 30 feet each away did. The BLM ranger politely pointed that out and told us to pack it up...it was a buzz kill to a great day of shooting but it could have gone way worse.

    I know this is an old vid, but i have come to find out you can always ask the R.O. on "rate of fire" allowed. Ive usually been told "if we can tell you are generally putting sights back on target before follow up shots" its considered acceptable. Of course depending on the range you choose.

    Good day to you Daily Shooter. Watched your L.A. Cerakote field trip, been wanting to go there and get my rifles done. Yours and your brothers AR came out excellent. Cant wait to make way way there this year. What I did notice from your video is the location at the 8:03 minute mark. I used to go there more than 10 years ago but have not been back there since. It's about an hour and half drive from the Mid Wilshire area of L.A.. Place have gotten dirty and from what I can remember, someone had dumped a boat. It's crazy but from your vid, looks like a different place. Rangers/Local PD would drive through making sure everything is good. Just wondering if it's a safe place to go and would like to take my kids now that they are much older. Thank you for your time and safe shooting

    great place in Cochella near Palm Springs. Just off the 10fwy. It's on BLM and the area is huge!. Many people go to Hodge rd off the 15 fwy near Barstow. I still like Lytle Creek Firing Line off the 15 fwy north of Fontana. They do have rules but you can rapid fire, bring your own targets including metal. They have their own metal targets at 100,200,300 yards if you don't want to put up yours. $20 for the day. Tables and cover from the sun.

    All National Forests allow recreational shooting as long as it's not particularly prohibited. Ours has areas with covered ranges. Apparently at others you are allowed to shoot as long as it's safe. I just watched a video with the national park service with guidelines for doing this. UA-cam it.

    There is a BLM Ranger Station in Cantil, California. This is at the corner of Jawbone Canyon road and State Highway 14, 21 miles north of Mojave. Go in and talk to them, they're friendly and helpful where to shoot. You'll share the area with off road vehicles, just be safe. (and leave no trash). Do not shoot in Red Rock Canyon State Park.

    Not much in my area to do any shooting. I just checked out a new range over the weekend. They don't allow rifle calibers though which is what I have the most of. You can shoot .223 but it has to be their ammo and it's pricey. I'll have to see if I can get this info in my area. Thanks for sharing.

      @@anthonygutierrez7190 Its not about actually being Mexican. Most people who fly the Mexican flag in another country above our flag are the type who spray paint on your walls around your house, and the rocks in the desert. Those are also the ones who have no trigger discipline and will shoot in your direction with no regard. Those are not the type of people we need representing us, or being around my family.

    In Finland, until a couple of years ago, you could shoot whatever wherever you want as long as it was 1) outside cities and municipal districts 2) you shot in a safe fashion 3) you had the land owner's permission.
    Now the law is basically the same but it's very vaque whether the land owner has to be actually overseeing the shooting. Waiting for the first victims of the newly worded law. Until then - I rented my shooting area for shooting purposes for 1€ perpetually and made a legal document of it so I'm covered.
