Maybe its water storage, since it has a water spigot.

Looks like they drug it up there as a water storage tank.

Your friend is arguably (like an Adolescent with ADD), no disrespect intended, would just unnerve me in terrain like this.). You're a patient young man. 🏆
Precision timing with your comment: "I'm so confused". That was exactly what I would say and was thinking. Priceless!
      An experience share:
There's no way for folks to comprehend the power and force of a desert mountain flood. I recall watching one come down West Desert Inn Road and turn the corner flowing by my 1st apartment. "Desert Lakes Estates" (I was setting in my home office, memorized. Any loose debris was captured and taken to the lowest point.
I also lived there, had just landed from a flight back from San Diego, my corp office at the time. Returned home and a storm accompanied by over 100 mph gusts arrived. The one that bend the Hilton sign at about half its height.
The sign had recently been installed, may a few months, and listed as the tallest sign in the world.
The design had flow tunnels, but they were not precise for the direction and thrust.
Oddly my husband and I arrived there just after the Police, as we were meeting his attorney from CT who was staying there. (The Storm was just over when we departed, and all down Sahara there were political signs, the large tripod like ones on wheels, intermittently scattered about.
What was amazing to me was that there wasn't more apparent damage.
They just capped the sign at the bend and renovated it. That's the one you see today.
I landed about 20 minutes before the winds arrived. Strongest Winds I experienced in Las Vegas.
The desert was my home for about 20 years. Great memories. Raised My son there. ☀️💛🌵

we lived in Henderson Nevada for 20+ years. Nelson as one of our favorite day trips, we loved to rockhound there. you have to be extremely careful what areas you visit. it as a well known fact that a lot of these mines people used to manufacture meth. people use to come up missing when they explored the wrong area.

Cool finds back there! I had no idea there were so many mines and prospects up on the hill. Was thinking they were using it as a stop on an ATV tour or for a cookout maybe. It would be cool to have live music back there and a bbq. PS: "I have a flashlight on my phone" famous last words🤣 Joel hopping around above the shaft had me nervous!

5:00 Pyrite has a small amount of gold in it.
A piece as large as he held in his hand would be worth bteaking down to extract the gold by a private citizen.
Also, where there is pyrite there is gold.
So, look for **quartz vanes, with a mustard like smear on it.
A dark rust presenve indicates iron deposits.
Green, auqua blue indicates silver or copper.
All can be found ner gold deposits.
**A bed of quartz crystals in stone traps tiny flakes of gold beneath the crystal.

This was a mining camp, not really a town. The newer buildings are from a defunct off road adventure tour group business.
Your friend was in no danger atop the mine shaft unless he tripped and fell in. The Cholla cactus seems like it jumps out and bites you... my least favorite cactus lol.

Kudoos for not tresspassing on Marked private property with a sign.
Here in my state, no strangers within 175 feet of my signs.
I wish all parents would grill this into their kids brains on a monthly basis until they leave the nest.
Parents are certainly the 1st too grab stolen goods & toss them without growing a pair by returning the goods in good faith. " Hey you, so sorry my kid was so stupid. My apologees for your inconveniance caused by my kid ( s ). "
Oh And how about fixing my fence they trampled, warped, & stretched out?
Parents should do more than just selfishness when it comes to little Billy being a criminal. Make him face up to his wrongs & maybe he won't grow up slashing car tires & harrassing others. Really.
