“No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave, And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.”

The name of the song is “Lift Every Voice and Sing” NOT the Black National Anthem and it is a unifying song about faith written in 1900 (124 years ago). The song is about having faith in God to bring you through difficult times. It also about never giving up. And, if you actually listen to the words, it pledges alliance to America even though it is where our ancestors came and died. But it also says never forget to honor our native land too.
It was NEVER meant to be a divisive song. It is a song about love and sacrifice and it was written during one of the ugliest times in American history, after Reconstruction, when Black Americans were being lynched daily; however, this song is a song of hope and pride with the message, “never give up.” It is an extremely patriotic song. Sooooooo….during the Super Bowl, we hear several patriotic songs by different artists, and this is one of them. We also hear “America the Beautiful” (written in 1893), “God Bless America (written in 1918) and “My Country Tis of Thee” (written in 1920) all leading to the “headline song” the National Anthem. At EVERY Super Bowl, we hear several patriotic songs before we hear the national anthem. And, during the pregame show, we see several ethnicities celebrated by sharing their heritage through special recognitions and presentations. It is not about being WOKE….it is about patriotism.
So…..to your question, when a country literally states it is a country of immigrants, then yes, as many ethnicities should be celebrated as possible, including the heritage of Black Americans. Why? Because when we celebrate and respect each other, THAT is what makes America great….isn’t it? We live in a country where 58% identify as white….and 42% identify as not being white (according to the 2020 Census). With that said there is no “Hispanic National Anthem” so your question is a mute one. But, if you mean should the heritages of 42% of Americans be recognized? Yes.
And, when I was growing up on an Air Force base, every weekday at 12 noon, the entire base stopped and listened to the National Anthem. If I was riding my bike, I stopped and stood to give honor. Today, I gladly give honor, with my hand over my heart, when I hear the National Anthem AND I stand with Pride of my ancestors who persevered with courage and continued to love a country that did not love them when I hear, “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” My family as served in every war of this country dating back to the Spanish-American War, when we weren’t even American…..my great, great, grandfather fought in that war as a Bahamian in the Caribbean before his children came to America to go to college.

The full song definitely seems like that. However, including context of what DEI and other agendas that are being pushed right now, they left out much of what makes the song a positive message that’s unifying. They left out, “May we forever stand,
True to our God” in addition to “Have not our weary feet
Come to the place for which our fathers sighed? “ this was written in 1900, and they were already glad they made it where they were. Nowadays, African Americans have just as many rights as any other American, way more rights than their ancestors, and they left that part out? Why? I think It’s because in todays culture amongst EVERY RACE, it’s popular to victimize yourself, and not work hard to become a better person, i struggle with this. It ended with “ let us march on till the victory is won.” The whole song wasn’t played, and I don’t think it was an accident. With black only dorms at certain schools, and other agendas being pushed rn,it’s hard not to think they left it on “fight on till the victory is won“ repeatedly for a specific reason. it seems like whoever is in chsrge of this is pushing agenda, not unity. They took out the context in the song which can make it into any message they want, even tho the original message seemed to be sound. I’m not saying America isn’t racist at all, and that America is perfect, just to be celar. I just wanted to say people can take out context of songs to make them whatever they’d like. I want to thank your family for their service and appreciate your love for America. I share that with you. What are your thoughts on this?

    • @SedoKai
      @SedoKai 6 місяців тому +14

I'll point out that in media coverage of this, the song was almost universally referred to as the "black national anthem."
That seemed to be an important sticking point to all sides of this hodgepodge. It's the cultural dispute and the strange emotional investment in that phrase that's really the ignition point for debate here.
Aside from a song people seem to widely recognize as the "black national anthem," there's black independence day, black history month, black entertainment television, and so on and so forth. This pattern seems to be sending a symbolic message of "we don't want to a shared community and culture and heritage. We'd rather stand separate and alone."
I don't know if it's just an artifact of segregation, something that became ingrained and a force of habit, but what I do know is that it makes me feel like the day when we can shed the hyphens and all just be americans will never come.

  • @darswearington1244

This song written by James Weldon Johnson is “rooted” in the national anthem and is an ode to the dark past and resilience of African Americans who were historically not treated as equals and endured much hardship just to get freedom. The song also acknowledges the hardships black America’s endured for the rights and privileges non blacks received based on racism. I get that it seems separatist but it’s not. They allowed it to be sang for valid reasons. Also, why does this word woke invoke such animus? It’s just an awareness. We’re evolving. Would you like another word that feel less abrasive but means the same thing ? Just asking for a friend.

Or are you one of those white, upper class spoilt people, living off your ruch parents money. Thinking that they know best for black people, so you go into black neighbourhoods, and burn down black buissnesses because of lies made up about a justified police shooting of a black person?
"Anti"-fa is a facist terrorist organisation.
The man who coined the term Facism, was Benito Mussolini, a former communist teacher that added racism to communist theory because he found out that communism is impractical without slave labour to provide the workforce to actually do the work when people are being paid despite not working.
As has been proven everywhere communism has been tried.
      Leftism means big government.
      Right means small government.
Nazism is far left because it's about the state controlling basically everything in people's lives. Including the state doing a genocide because they force their twisted ways on society to be able to wipe out parts of it. Just like in communist China, Vietnam after the USA pulled out, Lous, countless failed African states, the USSR, including the Ukrainian man made Famine that is the reason why Ukraine is fighting against Russia today and why the nazis where initially welcomed by Ukraine in WW2, as liberators from Ukraines genocidal oppressors...only for the Ukrainians to discover that the Nazis where even more fat left genocidal then the USSR.
This can also been seen recently in the USA with CHOP/CHAZ, people living off of state benefits as opposed to their very very, failed farming attempt, and the name CHOP, being about chopping the heads off of people that disagree with them.
Basically, slavery is not exclusive to Black's, and is mostly done by the far left.
Slavery has been done all over the world at some stage, to all races.
I'm Irish for example. Saint Patrick was a slave.
If I was living under communism right now, there is a good chance that I would be a slave too.

Apart from it being called “Black National Anthem” you wouldn’t have known it wasn’t an American cultural anthem because of how iconic it is. I would assume it’s only called that to give credit to a community who has historically led civil rights progress. Social conversation is fine but there’s nothing unAmerican about it. No one told the Colonists to own humans just because they were a different shade. They expanded American diversity through its Manifest Destiny conquest. What we are is a production of that conflict. Also, I never mentioned all 125 nationalities. But I believe that the majority of the 125 actually know where they originated, or at least the culture. Polish people know that it originates from Poland, and they have a Polish National Anthem. African Americans had to create a culture once they got to America because, for the most part, they weren't allowed to do many cultural things based on their African heritage. So it makes sense to me to have the Black National Anthem sung because it's based on a culture and lifestyle that originated in North America, as did The National Anthem.

But the poorly educated doesn't take the time to read and comprehend. And oh by the way, this song was never intended to be an alternative or replacement to The Star Spangled Banner (which wasn't even the National Anthem when this song was written). @@philalexander7902 You like to use the words ignorant to describe me a lot, which is fine but there are plenty of things that are not adding up when it comes to your argument. This song is segregationist in its usage. It is true that it was part of a tribute to Lincoln, but it was not called the "Black National Anthem" at that time. Instead, it was called "Lift Every Voice and Sing," and a tribute is all it was. Now this song is being used to discourage unity between blacks and whites by giving black people their own "special anthem." So, for its current use, it is segregationist. I am willing to back peddle my original "questions", which were asked mostly as a disingenuous stab at the irony of what you were saying, but I will not back down when I say that the "Black Anthem" is currently being used to segregate the USA psychologically, by perpetuating the view that black people are different from the rest of us to the point they need their own anthem. Also, Francis Scott Key was not nearly as bad as you suggest, if you would do some reading on his personal papers, and the actual testimonies of the people who knew him instead of reading those tarnished history textbooks at school and calling it "Education" you would realize he did many amazing feats in helping to end slavery; Like the time he legally freed a ship of over 300 African slaves that had been captured by the US by fighting for their freedom in court and even spending a TON of his personal resources for their freedom. And even if he was a little racist (Which most people were at the time) that is not what the National Anthem focuses on, instead, it focuses on unity as Americans due to our shared hardship. Plus, I hardly think it is "Wallowing in ignorance" to not know about the origin of this song that has only just recently become a point of controversy. Knowledge is not wisdom, you seem to have knowledge of a few things, but you are hardly the judge of who is ignorant and who isn't.

I recently attended an event in Philadelphia where this song was sung by blacks, whites, hispanics and Jews, all in unison. So spare me your divisive nonsense because you have no clue what you're talking about. And if you ever bothered to expand your horizon beyond your own race (as I do all the time) you'd know that the majority of black Americans refer to this song by its title. No one alive today is responsible for giving it the black National Anthem subtitle. And no one has a problem with no longer referring to it as such; especially given how fragile you snowflakes have gotten over a century-old nickname to a song that has never posed a threat to this nation's official National Anthem. You're showing how weak you are. You'd never be able to endure what my ancestors have endured nor what I have to endure watching you snowflakes melt over something so insignificant . And let me reiterate. No one who understands this song has ever looked at it as an alternative or replacement to The Star Spangled Banner. We understand the historical context. It is NOT a separate National Anthem. I can't make it any clearer. So if you decide to continue wallowing in fragile emotions and ignorance, that's a personal choice. And that's your problem, not mine. The song isn't going anywhere just to appease your feelings. Expand your mind. It's actually quite liberating.
