Love this car. My father had a Mk7 followed by a Mk8 in the late fifties. The Mk7 was two-tone blue and had been 'hotted-up' by the first owner. It ran mostly C-type running gear; the phenomenal performance well above a standard '7'. It was stolen and written off by two lads, luckily they survived. I can still remember the number OXL999.
My first car at seventeen was a black 1960 mk nine auto/power cost thirty quid and i drove it all over Europe slept on the back seat lunch every day in Les Routiers Oh what lovely Summer days were those of 1968/1970
Funny my first car was also a '60 Mark 9 that belonged to my dad's boss in NJ. Sounds like you had better luck with yours than I did. Broke down (water in the gas and also it blew head gaskets) a money pit extraordinaire. Paid $600 for it in '68 and sold it for $200 2 yrs later. Lovely to sit in an smoke cigars though...it unfortunately did give me a taste for the finer things in life! Btw I was 18 in '68.
Bought my first jaguar a mark 2 it was a 1964 2.4 litre automatic that was 1977 it cost me 700 hundred pounds best car I’ve ever owned I was 22 years old
we are in N.z and we added a V12 to a mk.8. around 30 yrs. ago.....XJ6 front suspemsion, 2.76:1 ratio rear diff.... did 60 mph in first, 110 mph second and top was super cruise mode!!!!!!!!
I really don't agree with this practice. The Mark 9 had a very good engine for a car of its era. And the V12 has a perfectly good home in modern Jaguars. You have ended with a confusing mish-mash in which it is impossible to appreciate car or engine in the wider context.
As the owner of a '58 Mk VIII since 1972 (RHD, Duotone grey, 3.4, manual with overdrive) I viewed this video with interest. Congratulations on a beautiful build, but I think some of the heritage is lost when you swap out the legendary XK engine that won Le Mans five times in the 1950's.
A very beautiful car. Jaguar made some of best looking and performance cars of its day. I drive german and japanese cars. My all time favourite cars when I was a young boy, always wanted to have a jaguar. Im in the process of looking for a xj6 .....series 2 or 3
The Mark IX was never a commonly seen car and is now rarer than hens' teeth. What a wonderful way to keep this car alive and in use. Clearly a complete and insanely expensive job, but just subtle enough (in terms of retaining first-glance originality) to get away with it. For all the beauty and presence of the Mk IX, it was just another product from just another car factory. A nice one, but still just a thing on a line.... This restomod is not akin to drawing a moustache on the Mona Lisa. It is really rather a delight.
The car is Jaguar's swansong before cars became lower and the V12 their finest ever engine. What a combination! I have a '71 E so appreciate how good these smooth power-plants are and the sound they make. Stuff the MOT conflict, as cited by another comment on here. I'd still take it out regardless of any new bullshit legislation that usurps it's use on the road. Protruding handles? What a load of nannying codswallop!
At 1:39 it's not red over black, it's the other way around - black over red. Sorry to be over picky but it's noticeable. Still a beautiful car, my late Mum's favorite. Dad's was a Rover 3500TC. MANY thanks and take care.
'Mortimer' you are a VERY beautifull car , thanks for sharing. However , I feel 'Mortimer ' could and should have had a LONGER video for us to enjoy!!!...👌
we did same toa mk.8 here in New Zealand..fitted a 2.76:1 diff off a plymouth and twin hollies on motor..did 60mph in 1st, 100mph in second....!!!!!!!!
Love the old Jaguars from the 50’s & 60’s, my Dad owned a Mk7, split screen, followed by a Mk2 3-4. The piano music is very poignant could you tell me who the piece is by as there isn’t a reference to it in the description.
Sadly, you cant beat originality...we now own a black n silver mk.7...factory fitted with mk.8 grill, and power steering..(quite rare!)...and have put her on 15'' crager wire mag wheels. To top it off, someone way back bored her out to a 3.8L, original motor..though..has a 5 speed box too and the diff ratio changed to same as a mk.2 manual. red interior...lether(no vynal!)...and She goes like hel l!!!!!!!
That looks like a XJ40 instrument cluster on the dash! How did he get that to function? That took some real talent, though I would have went with the X300 because I am biased and I never liked the XJ40 cars, even the V-12 versions, well, ok who am I kidding. I'll take the V-12 XJ40 if it was given to me! ;-D
But the elephant in the room is the MOT after April of next year. As it has a post '88 modification that increases the power by 15% modified bodywork, axles means that it will need a Qplate. But you won't be able to get one as the protruding chrome handles and mirrors, switches fail an IVA which are designed around kit cars.

My first was a mk7 in black when i was 17, wish i had it now and all the old cars i drove, i would be worth a fortune.
IN 1969 I BOUGHT MY FIRST E-TYPE FOR 2100 DOLLAR S. A'61. OBL ROADSTER TRADED IT FOR A 67 OLDSMOBILE. WHO KNEW IT WOULD BE WORTH A FORTUNE!!!
Jonathan Barrett 30 quid. Aaaaaggghhhh, if only we’d kept those old beauties.

Beautiful. My Dad was in the American Army and had one in the late 50’s/early 60’s in Casablanca. Must have turned some heads back in the day.

WOW Lovely two tone paint work nice enough wheels, beautiful interior, and of course the V12 engine LOVE IT
My Dream car when I was kid and I still love them, absolute class.
Pits about the CHAV steering wheel and oversized exhaust pipes.
that is one beast of a Jaguar mk9... Best of Classic and modern Integrated.... beautiful
I saw a Mk X/420G V12 restomod at a classic car show about 15 years ago. Stunning vehicle.

I JUST BOUGHT A '61 MK9 LAST YEAR BLACK OVER SILVER. PERFECT RED INTERIOR, I'M GOING TO KEEP IT STOCK , STOCK, STOCK.

This is what a really great resto mod looks like.
Beautiful beast. My own taste would be for the original steering wheel, but each to his own.
promerops YES, ME TOO, I'M RATHER A PURIST.
@@gf4353 Nah, this looks like an excellent upgrade.
Yes if just for that real experience of being behind the wheel to get the real feel of how it felt in it`s original driving experience.
It was a huge steering wheel if I can remember and hard braking on a wet surface was no fun in a big cat I can tell you!
@@fotofigures Had to make an appointment just to make her stop!

Should NEVER change original beauty. Its a tragedy to destroy the original brilliance.

Stunning classic, shame about the steering wheel 🎡
What a beauty! Truly a lovely car!
Please tell us more! Brilliant!!! I love it!
I can recall a time around 1965 when l saw a very nice mark 9 on a forecourt for sale at under £200 .
Often thought of a V12 in a mk 7,8 or 9. I've had plenty of V12 Jags but this does appeal to me
Very nice car , a true period british sleeper car ! (An American term for a car that goes like a bat out of hell but looks totally unassuming)

love the steering wheel.
Black over red I think. Always liked this model since seeing the Mk VII in Hitchcock's Vertigo.
Awesome ! Friggin love it !!
Others can have their Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and Porsches.
This Mark IX is a drool machine.
Wow!!! What a car!!!
You would've thought they'd sort out the dented radiator grille after doing all that work.
Exquisite!
this is one fab car , that is the way to build a resto
Very nice
Still building Merc SL’S?
where is Mortimer now? Update?
My dad had a mk9 he had it for many years
another vision, yes, but the engine is very smoky...why that?
Terrific. What's the lovely piano music please?

Did jaguar make a V12 engine in1959?
Umm,... me thinks “he” is black over red , not red over black, but wow, what a spectacular conversion.
Quite right
My dad's car I miss it
Art
How to integrate immediate presence and instantaneous absence. (Possibly with incidental tyre smoke.)
WOW!
BIJOU MAGNIFIQUE💙💙💙
Lindo carro , meu pai teve um preto e depois um bege , Brasil
Good Lord ! If it were me , I would take the V12 out and replace it with the correct engine Then in the future , it will be easier to source parts .

MY DREAM WITH VW 1200
Does originality count for nothing?
I'm sure it is an ultra-high maintenance machine.
Nice!
I wonder if anybody could import one if these into the states
There are several available for sale and left hand drive. Just check the net.
In the US.
Killer hot rod.
I absolutely love the way these sorts of ultra resto mods upset the purists!
class
I have yet to see an ugly Jaguar, I doubt they even exist.😍

That's the best reason to bring it to Australia !...We don't have any of that Bullshit here !
@MichaelKingsfordGray how the fuck would you know anything about my name?
Why did they tell "them" it was updated, I wouldn't no reason to.
My first car was 59 my 9 auto cost 50 quid
Nice but not liking the steering wheel
I'd take this over a Silver Cloud any day.
What a tragic way to wantonly destroy a lovely car. Just buy a V12 XJ and leave such a car well alone. Disgraceful!
V.12 motors are nice, but a total pile of crap.. too big n gutless!..need twin turbos to sort them out..=fact
The value of these classics lie in their originality. The said mods only detract. Shame!
Oh no!! car is worthless now who ever messed with it needs to be ashamed it was a great car as it was now with all that noise well a disgrace!
Nonsense. It would have been worth a lot less rotting in a field or breaker's yard.
