In Florida, window visors are a must & I have had them on my last 3 vehicles. Allows the car to be vented sitting in the hot Florida sun without any rain coming in. Although, small drawbacks are bugs occasionally getting in & people using leaf blowers around the car can make a mess inside, but I wouldn't have a vehicle without them. Just got a bug deflector, mainly for looks.
They do deflect bugs, grasshoppers, rocks etc. They aren't and never were intended to keep your windshield completely clean from bug guts. Keeping the front edge of your hood from taking damage from direct hits from hard bugs as well as the acid from the guts along with a bit of security from rocks was the original intent imo. Take a look at an older truck that never had a guard and look at one that has and you will see what I'm talking about. The guards on the 1ROAD Suburban are nearly the same as I had on my Tahoe. Not only do they serve to protect the paint job and the windshield but look great on that body style. I had to replace my hood guard once after a rock hit and broke it. No doubt it saved me from taking more expensive damage.
I personally think trucks look better with these installed. They preserve paint from rock chips and bugs , protect windshield from bugs in summer country driving. That’s really the main pro and why so many have them.
I am just watching your vids for the first time, and boy are we cut from the same cloth. I very much have the same taste of subtle upgrades that enhance a vehicle without dramatic changes and cost. Great videos!
The hood bug deflectors are actually incredible. If you’ve ever driven through an area with heavy bug infestation at night where you can see it working it’s truly amazing. I had one on my truck years ago and it was a life saver as I worked a lot at night. However, I ordered the Weathertech for my 2018 Silverado a couple of years ago and was incredibly disappointed. The screw holes didn’t line up with the factory locations on the truck and once mounted it was incredibly wobbly and it was obvious it would have scratched my hood up badly. I ended up giving it away to someone else. I’d like to get one for my truck now, but don’t know which one would fit securely. I know it’s not the Weathertech!!
Mine are on a Dodge Nitro and they are Wade by Weston made in California. They are the in channel type don't like the stick- on type. I trimmed my corners with my Dremel tool smooth operating now
Looks great! Personally I prefer the vent shades that stick to the door than the in channel. I've had the in channel visors brake over a short period of time from opening and closing the windows.
Window visors are a must for every vehicle. I've never been a big fan of the hood bug deflector, but they look pretty good. Just not my thing. My first set, over 25yrs ago, were in channel. I thought that was the best and only way to go. Over time I found out they come with some problems and headaches. Been using the outside tape ons ever since. They work great. I use the AVS brand though and never had a issue. Love the truck and original look with the factory rims.
Only had one truck with deflector on it. Was on there over ten years. Ruined the paint down deep in there where I couldn't wash well. Also had a small rock chip in the windshield. You can't win. Run what you like, it's more of a trim item than a deflector though. Cleaned all kinds of bugs off my windshield in N. Carolina. Maybe deflects Nats, I don't know. I have those side window shades also, mine are the 3M tape on's. Biggest problem with those is having them blow off going down the road. Dang 3M tape is a bear to get loose but be damned if it has not much problem on it's own. The shades are nice in humid area's where in spring you may not want defrost on but feel being able to see is sorta important too.
Weather tech are the best. The old style bug deflectors work great. The new ones are not as good, more for rocks chipping the paint. Years ago they were straight 5" ish flat plastic that really kept the windshield clean.
I used to drive a 1995 K1500 as the parts delivery truck with the same deflectors. The rain guards are sure nice on a hot but rainy day. The one thing I still kind of like that you're missing is the big sun visor - but the one I remember was pretty noisy.
I bought my 1992 chevy with the window deflectors and the bug guard on front. They both seem thicker than yours and are wider but I have no idea where they were purchased or installed. But I must say I love them. This is the first truck that I've had them on.
Tim here, I have a 96, black and white, brush guard, spare on the top, three antenna's, lights all around inside and out with power inverters(2), and will be getting bug deflector and window trims. I'm 65 so I don't care what people think. Like what you are doing.
I bought one of their guards for my 2000 Ranger when the truck was new. It lived in the California sun most of the time. It finally cracked last year. 22 years is a pretty good lifespan for a hunk of plastic.
I've always used AVS window deflectors. Good quality and price. Never had an issue. I've only used the type that stick to the door. I just never wanted anything additional in the window channel because I've seen those types get loose and prevent the window from closing.
@@A.C.71 AVS uses 3M automotive grade 2 way adhesive tape, which is usually impossible to pull up and reuse. If it hasn't been adhered to the vehicle for an extended time i.e. more then a few hours, it may be possible to slowly pull the misaligned ones and reposition. In my experience, you will likely have to pull them, remove the old 3M tape, apply new tape and reinstall. 3M automotive tape can be found at just about any auto parts store. Pro tip, next time you go to install, position the piece where you think it looks and functions as intended, only lightly press on one position on each end to hold it in place while you take a step back to check alignment/fitment, if it's good, continue to secure the rest, if not, this makes it a whole lot easier to remove and reposition.
Like you channel and I've learned a few things, but... it is not a "square body"... they ended in '91... I've had both and currently have a '92 Blazer that's the same body style as your Suburban.
It looks very good. I like the look but not always how they are mounted. If you mount something over painted metal, it will be often rust. dirt colect underneath and rub into paint. It is important that the plastic also has UV protection, otherwise plastic does not last long in the sun.
Who cares what we think? I use them when I can because of the old adage form follows function. I’ve always thought they afforded a lot of protection and I love the ability to crack the windows in the summer and leave them down without worrying about rain entry. Hey Jimmy, I am a Grand Paw and I have had Vent Shade brand (bug and window deflectors) on my 99 Yukon for 15 years. Mine go over the window. Love your Truck and Channel. Keep up the great work for us OBS'ers out here!
In the thought of buy low, is it worth a #1 WW priority slide to pick up Pacheco and stash? I have Brooks on IR currently so I could slide him in there. Thoughts?

Glad I stopped by, I was looking for a front bug deflector for my 04 gmc yukon xl but I'm really liking the side window deflectors on yours. I appreciate your video and review. Thanks.
I have a 2012 Silverado crew cab. Had the WeatherTech in-channel model on all four doors. The rear doors...the clip moved down slowly. Just enough that when the windows was eventually rolled down. Each flew off the truck at different times...after having been installed for over three years. So...periodically check this clips.
Add Bushwhacker Cut out fenderflares i think you will find that very cool.. and you will fit some bigger tires for overlanding without rubbing the wheel well..
I have a 2019 VW Atlas, tried AVS(cheaper than WT) and they did not have a chamfered edge and in the front did not go from The mirror to the top corner of the door. Kept falling out. The rear window kept clipping the visor. The chamfered edge is definitely important. Got a refund from avs and bought the WT. Perfect fit. My floor mats a Max 3D Pider. Less expensive and do not slide around like the WT.
*I have a bug deflector on my 2010 Explorer but, the styling of the side window deflectors just does not appeal to me - the bug deflector I bought used factor holes for the middle screws but, I needed to drill holes for the outer holes.*
Your truck looks much better now. You’ve smoothed the boxy look out. I’ve been using window shades since the 70’s when stainless steel was the “in-thing.” I’ve always added the shades I installed them on my 1998 zR2, 1500hd 4 door and most recent my 2011 Denali YukonXL. You keep your vehicles in great shape and looking great. 👍
If alot of the milage is done on the highway these are a must have if you dont have a lebra mask. I can put a little bit of looks aside to protect the front end of the vehicle but thats just me. My truck is all black so everything blends anyways
It looks good.I wouldn't trust tape to hold it on over time.Screws would be more reassuring. The in channel window deflectors(from my experience) interfere with the normal up down of the window.I was told that the speed in which the window travels may have to be adjusted.I have no idea how that is done.
I bought one And? The front middle tip of the hood is separated. So when I put on the bug repellent. In. Front of it, the hood continues and it looks stupid on a 2022 Toyota Corolla. Waist of money
Good to see a great and honest review......before buying something for my 1995 Chevy Silverado 1500. Checking out Westin Wade hood deflector and wondering how that compares. Thanks
Downside with the bug deflectors on the hood is when a rock hits it and actually pings it in a lot of times it pings it right into the top of the windshield just food for thought
Thought I might have to settle for the adhesive mounted vent shades for my SUV -- then found the W-tech items. They are tight and you do have to fiddle around to get optimal seating, but mine don't have the clips. To increase the overall "slipperiness" of the glass I siliconed the crap out of the side channels and cleaned the top edge well. For a month or two, every time I got in the vehicle my synapses were telling me I'd left the windows partly open . . . but they are really good to have.

I can't believe weather tech makes anything for a vehicle from the 90's
I love your truck keep going
Thanks! Will do!
