In this Big Bull podcast, we are with Surinder Singh who is 66-years old and is a resident of Delhi. He is a long-term investor and started trading during lockdown when his business was facing a slowdown.
Going back to his young times, Surinder Ji started his career by driving autos back in the 1970’s.
Then tried his hands on driving taxi and lottery business and lost a handsome sum of money. His father helped him by giving ₹10 lakhs to him. In 2020 when he saw shares he bought almost 30 years back were giving massive returns he decided to give the stock market a try.
His FD of 12 lakhs matured at the same time and he started intraday trading and then option trading. In both segments, he suffered massive losses.
Then He bought PVR shares which gave him good returns and from there he decided to become a long-term investor. Today he has 400+ stocks in his portfolio.
When asked about his stock selection strategy he said he is not a fan of technical or fundamental analysis and even don’t look at charts. He simply looks at FII, DII and Mutual funds, watches news of stock analysis and then decides to invest.
Also, he follows a 40% stock appreciation strategy. When a stock touches a 52-week low and then appreciates again to 40% of the value he enters into the stock. When asked about why he doesn’t want to go for option trading or day trading he says he read and saw Warren Buffet, Radhakrishnan Damani and Rakesh Jhunjhunwala and all of these big people became millionaires or billionaires by investing.
As per Surinder Ji, he is a risk taker. He does fear the market conditions and negative sentiment. He keeps invested and that pays him. Only go for the long term, be patient and never compromise with your investment goals.
His only warning is never to try to run. Instead, go slow. Money-making is a slow process. It will take time. The whole podcast is interesting and do watch till the end and tell us what you learnt. I like investing in close-end funds that pay monthly dividends. The trick is to hold long term and reinvest the monthly dividends plus buy more shares on a monthly basis or whenever you can afford to. This can be easily done because close-end funds are bought and sold on the stock market just like regular stock. That'd be enough to create a portfolio that would pay you between $50k to $70k in dividend income

I completely agree; I am over 50 years old, recently retired, and have approximately $1m in external retirement funds. I am debt free and have very little money in retirement funds compared to the total value of my portfolio over the past three years. To be honest, having a portfolio-advisor for investing is genius!

Hat's off to great Sardar ji! His life is a book in itself , with many different chapters of difficult ones in beginning and slowly moving towards a beautiful and smooth finish and he is still going strong with a lot of steam left ! His patience , calculated risk taking ability, analysis for failure and success ( both ) are great and is a learning lesson for all seeking knowledge about financial market, especially diversified stock investing ! I too have stock portfolio of 307 stocks ( after having reduced around 50 stocks only last month) built in last 4 yrs ( most after corona started and I stopped working in a post retirement job ) Good to know that others too have such a large and diversified portfolio like me and have doubled their money in 2 to 3 yrs ( But i advise only those to follow such large numbers of stocks, who have nothing else to do after retirement, not for full time job doers ) I happy that i met my match finally with regards to a large portfolio in terms of numbers! Well uncle ji gave me confidence abt my strategies too.
1. Caping investment on the individual stock.
2. Holding it.
3. Promoter holding and profit.
4. Don't limit to 10, 20 or 30 stocks only.
One thing I was neglecting was newspaper and information stuff.

Exactly what I’m doing again this week. The smartest thing I’ve ever done was having 30% in cash to buy on the way down in 2021. It hurt watching 30-40% discounts drop to 50, but grabbing Google, NVDIA, Apple, and others near the bottom has paid off. I love the bull outlook but I’m not confident to should hold all equities

Excellent info. My problem is when it starts dropping I think it's going to keep dropping for awhile and I wait so I can get the best deal. Next thing I know, it's back up again. I'm retired so don't have as much time but don't need the money for at least ten years or so. Gets tricky for me

The KEY point I liked is to get the stocks which is at 40% higher then the 52 week low. I have been following the stocks which is 20% lower then the 53 week high for less period stock holding. SUPERB his former is perfect for the long term I felt will have to do the same as well. mix of both. Cheers !!!!

The process to take entry in any stock is based on same setup. He never tried to change his lane to get more profit he always tried to focus on his own setup. That’s why he is in good profit. There is a good learning to new aged trader or investors from him that trust you own setup. If your own setup hits your SL then accept it but don’t change your setup. I regularly watch yr video clips. I am 61 years old and retired last year. I recvd my PF money and started invested in Nov 22. Today I have a portfolio of 110 shares and currently have a return of 45% on my investment.

Thanks for sharing this video.. I also started investing in shares even after lockdown and used UA-cam to learn. Today I have 72 stocks and portfolio is at 45% profit.. few are at 180%,150% profit..
Long term is best
From this the most important learning which I got is that at first you have to make profit and should be very careful initially beacouse only that profit will give you confidence to be in the market and to handle the bear phase of the market.

One can take many lessons fron this talk--
1) one should not loose hope if one door is closed. He tried another way if one was Failed.
2) many says i am late to market but actually there is no age of entry in market.
3) once a decision is taken be convicted to your decision.
4) There is no harm in going in flow or follow a big truck with safe Distances. Thats also a style.
5) this is also a strategy. Make so diversified with small investment in everyone that failing few of them will not shake the portfolio.
6) Going in flow with less investigation can backfire if there are clever players in same script. Specially in small and micro cap.
7) he may be sitting on profit coz of investing at luckiest time ( covid). Which was an exceptional time.
Covid was not luckiest for those who lost their real assets (i.e parents /siblings/relatives/friends) .... Luckiest for those who conquered this hard time with their families without any loss.... And have time to invest in market that time........... So never ever say covid time was lucky......

Babaji ki kripa hai uncle jee pe. His patience, principles and conviction are commendable.
However, he should work on fundamentals and technical analysis skills.
Although it is quite clear that Singh Saab had earned a lot from the market but for them to Excel further, they must improve their thought process regarding the market or they must appoint a genuine and efficient portfolio manager at this stage where there is huge capital involved.

Thanks for increasing the confidence in long term investment. I will correct my mistake by focusing on long term view on investment sometimes i used to trade it for short term which is risky & costlier for me.
