At 4:52 in the video, the reason you explode is because the Rebels set a minefield right there. The NPCs are actually very smart. You stole a vehicle, and flew it into their "asset protection"
The NPCs are not really all that smart. They ONLY place landmines where the developers placed nodes. Without paths and nodes, AI will just bee-line to any command post and if an object is in their way, they get stuck. Original Battlefront AI do seem to be more dangerous than Battlefront II AI. Battlefront AI like droidekas, snipers, or AI piloting turrets will totally get you if you don't get them within 2 seconds. Battlefront II AI seem to always aim where you were 2 seconds ago. Whenever I encounter an AI piloting a turret, I know that I just need to keep moving and he won't hit me. I can attack 5 AI in Battlefront II and know I can take them all out; it is hard to attack 5 Battlefront AI at the same time unless you have nades, mines, rockets, mortars or other 1-shot-kill weapons.

I love battlefront 2, but I agree that there are some things that were better in the original. One that comes into mind is the battle of Hoth. In the sequel they put an imperial command post inside the rebel base. I guess it was for balancing purposes, but it ruins the feeling of the clash between two opposite forces, with the attacking one that has to earn every step before colliding and the other one that must absolutely keep the enemy at distance, otherwise being crashed
That 1 ice map (Not Hoth the other one with blue ice) was absolute godtier, when the AT AT finally gets between the tall buildings buildings and the battlefield just explodes with chaos and death due to so many spawning at the AT AT… Soooo badass. My only gripe was the CIS Droideka was massively powerful and meant auto lose for Clones on 9/10 maps (Fixed in 2 when Jet Troopers would actually do damage against them) lol
You're referring to Rhen Var Harbor map, best memories on that map. For open battle and chaos, Battlefront I was so much fun to play, but battlefront II has such seamless improvements to the base game that I makes it better in certain ways, but I have equally good memories on both games. Nothing beats the Bespin platforms.
I still play the OG Battlefront on my Xbox. Still a blast loading up dune sea and trying to capture all the Tusken Raiser command posts then killing their remaining forces so they go “extinct”.
I appreciate this video a lot. Everyone seems to obsess over 2005 Battlefront 2 since you have space battles, playable Jedi and Sith, and Episode 3 locations. You said it best-2005 Battlefront 2 outdid its older sibling. But to me, OG Battlefront 2004 is a lot of fun. You had some really interesting maps where you could have ground battles, vehicles and Starfighter fights all on one map (Dune sea and Hoth come to mind). You could pretend that you were in the Rogue Squadron games by playing on maps like Bespin Platforms. Most maps felt wide open (unless you were in a starfighter, lol). The fact that you played as a regular infantryman was a stark contrast to an era of Star Wars games where you only played as the main movie heroes and it really felt cool to be a nobody in that case. This game's color palette was quite vibrant compared to the dull, drab colors we got in Battlefront 2. Most of all, this game was fun especially when played with family and friends.

Yeah, Geonosis: The Spire and Endor were probably the toughest missions I have ever played in any videogame. I guess I had 10+ tries for each of them and even then I could get a win with 1-2 teammates only

The OG Battlefront did (or rather didn't) do a lot of things that I felt was better for the experience. Space battles were cool... At first. I personally got burnt out on them. Even in a game that was essentially doing the same thing over and over again, it felt like space battles had little variation to them and because Galactic Conquest was designed the way it was, there was a good number of these space battles. Playable Heroes were a ton of fun... At first. Some of the heroes were perfectly fine, but eventually you played them more than the troops and it was just OP. Keeping the heroes as AI I think was a good idea, at least in standard game modes. Awards also added a lot of incentives to doing well... But got annoying because of the visual noise and audio noise they produced. Plus it took away that "just 1 soldier" vibe that the OG had. HAVING to use the alternate "elite" variants if you swapped weapons was also a bummer. The one thing I will say that BF2 did that I ALWAYS wanted in the OG was the commander classes that buffed their allies. OG had better ragdolls.
I LOVE this game. I remember going round a friend's house when I was like 10 and playing it with them and I really felt like I'd found the perfect game. Even now nearly 20 years later I think this game is fantastic; easy to pick up and play which means it's great to get split screen action on with a friend. I like the QoL that 2 added but I think the maps in that game aren't nearly as good. Glad people are seeing this game for its greatness!
The reason why newer games feel more clunky and don't have the same "magic" is because overtime it became less about "hey lets make a good game that everyone will enjoy so we can sell as many copies as possible to get our money" to "hey lets nickle and dime everyone for every inch of content after they already purchased the game so we can make even more money, finish the game to make it good? no just add more items to the store section"
I remember having a physical copy for the original xbox, that I would have played a lot on xbox 360. Both battlefront 1 and republic commando were some of my favorites. And eventually years later I would buy both the original star wars battlefronts and republic commando for pc, and play them every now and then because how how much I loved those games. Not just because I can run them way better than most other modern games, that cost a lot of money, but because I loved playing the games, and had a place in my childhood that I liked to relive a lot
I started playing this again on PC. I really don't like shooters on PC but the nostalgia of this game is just enough to make me suffer through controls
5:50 The game had a dozen maps, what you meant was 4 planet and the game still had multiple modes compared to BF2004 which has only one. Also the cards let you customize your own playstyle (which is good actually) and the heroes are pretty good(especially the dlc ones). You are right for the rest tho.
Still play this game even today on Steam. I know when I was a younger kid I always wanted to Play the Jedi or Sith because they were unkillable unless you landed on them or threw them off the Map and I finally got that opportunity with modding the game to allow you to play as the Jedi or Sith and roaming as Darth Vader being unkillable and just blocking all projectiles is awesome. I even modded the game to have about like 500 reinforcements and 32 or so AI per team so yeah its an awesome battlefield and being the Jedi or Sith player makes you feel like you are leading the charge.
Dice's Battlefield is the insperation for Battlefront, or I think it was a mod for Battlefield. Star Wars BattlefrontEA 1 & 2 looked and sounded amazing but the gameplay was not good, it made me ashamed of being Swedish. I as many other people wish that Battlefront 3 hadn't been canceled, that game looked amazing.
I never played the original battlefront 1 or 2 as a kid. I grew up with battlefront 2015 and played battlefront 2 2017 throughout its rocky history. But i decided to pick up the swbf2 and played it split screen on xbox with 3 of my friends and its easily my favorite game to play when i have friends over now.
In Battlefront 2 there is a mod which allows a 4 team conquest mode, which is super fun. As for why they removed stuff, likely due to balancing issues. I didn't like flyers in the first game, they handled well but the problem was that the maps were too small most of the time and they rarely affected the actual game.
Nice content! I still revisit Battlefront 2004 from time to time for how immersive it feels compared to other SW games. I would definitely add Kotor and Kotor 2 to the list of SW games that are still playable today.
Yeah, when I got my hands on BF1 having a 3rd faction on some maps was awesome and the fact they could also control command posts was awesome too. Tho I wish you could’ve played as them.
This is the first game review type thing where "its funny so its ok" is a thought ...and its so validating to hear that. Thats been my defense for every crappy ai since the beginning of time.
Just bought battlefront 1 and 2 along with KOTOR 1 and 2 off the xbox store. They have/had a sale depending on when you read this. Old games but have been a lot of fun revisiting
There's really nothing like the start of a battlefield or battlefront match where all the vehicles and troops are moving out in one force against the other
The way I view it is that Battlefront and Battlefront 2 and just two halves of the perfect Star Wars game. They did so much right that the new ones somehow haven't managed to capture
My friend and I played these all the time when I was young. I’ll never forget my friend and I were playing as stormtroopers and he said the only good wookie is a dead wookie lol
This is what turns me off about EA's Battlefront 2 . Its no longer about being the pawn or the regular soldier, its all about the heroes. Its like they completely forgot what star wars battlefront was about. I remember when the AI was only controlling the heroes it was hard asf to kill them. The first starwars battlefront that EA made was actually really good but it lacked content. They were in the right track until the changed the whole narrative.
Ah, my first star wars game thaty family bought from a store. We had the Super Nintendo trilogy, but they were bought at a flea market. I remembered this one, and Dead or Alive 3, that I bought at a Target. Which is still up and around to this day. I believe my original copy works fine, judt that the OG Xbox doesnt read it anymore. Thankfully my 360 and Xbox One does.
I remember playing the game one day, I look over and I just see mace running across the field with a stack of clone troopers behind him and thought this was the coolest moment in video game history
It's also one of the older kind of games that wasn't overly concerned about balancing all the classes amongst the factions. I'm not sure what I'd think of it going back but the idea that one armys trooper might be better or worse than another's is more interesting - albeit obviously something that changed in the sequel due to multiplayer balance concerns.
The loading screen for each map was amazing. Also this game thrown together single player was better than Dice campaign in battlefront 2. You see a 30 second compressed video clip from the movie, get a pep talk by a dude who kinda sounds like Palpatine, and just play a normal match of battlefront. But when you win the match, you get cool bonus art to look at
Personal favorite is the Republic light tank. By far the most maneuverable vehicle and you don't waste 2 of your plasma missiles (rebel factions hover speeder tank). The empire has it too, but besides the color alteration, the tank is actually slower than its Republic counterpart as I tested out the speeds of these two similar tanks at Rhen Var harbor. The Republic's variation of the light tank is faster than the imperial version.
I remember someone trolled me and said "You can play as Jedis if you do everything without dying once on the highest difficulty, if you die on the third mission, you have to do EVERYTHING again and start from scratch" AND I DID IT AND I COULDNT PLAY AS JEDIS
For me, I really liked the PvP in 1. I played the SP aspects of 2 a lot but the MP modes just never hit right for me, at least on PC. This was my first shooter (and multiplayer) experience on the PC and it's also what started my long journey from modding into game development. The importance of this game for me personally, can't be overstated. 😊 I know that Pandemic really had to cut features back on BF1 to make it work (especially with console limitations). It would really be neat to see the capital ships be functional on ground maps as they had intended. Vs just being skydome props.

I used To Play this Every christmas morning before everyone else got up so much fun
And here we are, hot on the news of the rerelease of Battlefront 1 and 2 on modern consoles. I can't wait!!!
The hardest maps in this game are Hoth as the empire and Genosis as the Republic
This game was something special, even with no playable heroes, this game just felt like it had so much to offer and expand on.
ty wizzard for the wizzard video
kinda unrelated comment but the audio quality of this video is so good its very nice to listen to
peethan asmr when??
Ah my childhood!! But i would love to see you play it more, it likes like you were having so much fun!! 😌😌
Okay I'm genuinely curious. Why do you hate shooters?
everyone say thank you wizzard
thank you wizzard ‼️
so pumped to see you talking about game design! especially with older games that hold up over time. Love to hear you talk about this topic
The imperial “We’ve captured a command post! 😏” and “We’ve LOST a command post…😒” will never get old.
im happy for you and everyone who commented on this vid, enjoy the nostalgia!
Those gamorrean guards in both games are overpowered.
I love both originals don't get me wrong, but there is something about the first game that is like the best.
I still play it frequently! It’s such a good freaking game. Also that LAAT driving at 1:47 had me dying
5:50 The game had a dozen maps, what you meant was 4 planet and the game still had multiple modes compared to BF2004 which has only one. Also the cards let you customize your own playstyle (which is good actually) and the heroes are pretty good(especially the dlc ones). You are right for the rest tho.
One thing that I love more in EA Battlefront 1 over 2 is the gunplay. In 2 it feels like I'm just shooting a plastic toy.
Also, guns feel weak as hell. They overheat quickly, have worse recoil, and don't do kuch damage at all compared to the first game.
i am so glad more people have started noticing this old gem
Still play this game even today on Steam. I know when I was a younger kid I always wanted to Play the Jedi or Sith because they were unkillable unless you landed on them or threw them off the Map and I finally got that opportunity with modding the game to allow you to play as the Jedi or Sith and roaming as Darth Vader being unkillable and just blocking all projectiles is awesome. I even modded the game to have about like 500 reinforcements and 32 or so AI per team so yeah its an awesome battlefield and being the Jedi or Sith player makes you feel like you are leading the charge.
The loading beeping sounds in the original battlefront are so iconic and are often referenced in my daily life.
I got battlefront 1 when I was a lil kid. It blew my mind when I found out there was a 2nd one where you can play as a hero lol
Bespin Platforms was always my favourite map in Battlefront 1. The turrets, the starfighters, the meet halfway point. It’s all so good!
I never really finished the simulations (the main story), but I've been playing alot of the multiplayer in instant action and galactic conquest
That’s what I miss about games from those times they were simple yet extremely fun to play wish we could go back to that
Nice content!
"Those wrist rockets, you must watch." -Yoda
you are the only wizard i watch
This is the first game review type thing where "its funny so its ok" is a thought ...and its so validating to hear that. Thats been my defense for every crappy ai since the beginning of time.
me and my brother still do call outs in other games using the questionably delivered "OVER THERE" voice line for the rebels lol
I hear something!
Just bought battlefront 1 and 2 along with KOTOR 1 and 2 off the xbox store. They have/had a sale depending on when you read this. Old games but have been a lot of fun revisiting
Now that battlefront the collection is dropping this video is aging extremely well 🏆🔥 🚀🪛
>takes up more space than the original games
>shitty AI redone textures
>removes splitscreen
yeah nah not for me sorry
There's really nothing like the start of a battlefield or battlefront match where all the vehicles and troops are moving out in one force against the other
The way I view it is that Battlefront and Battlefront 2 and just two halves of the perfect Star Wars game. They did so much right that the new ones somehow haven't managed to capture
My friend and I played these all the time when I was young. I’ll never forget my friend and I were playing as stormtroopers and he said the only good wookie is a dead wookie lol
i liked that air vehicles were available on ground maps in bf1. in bf2, theyre only available in space. I want to do strafe runs with the LAAT
I've never wanted to play a game more then hearing you talk about this
loved OG bf2. but BF1 will always hold a special place in my heart.
Star wars battlefront 1 and 2 were my childhood and I still have both games for my ps2 still.
I've been seeing a lot of new mod content for BF1 online lately, this game is still going strong
I played this game for hours on end with my friends. It was so freaking good
Great content man, like AAA tier, very surprised to see you have
This was my favorite video game of all time! Great video.
I love this channel, all killer no filler here
i loved how heavy the game felt, I know it wasnt balanced but wrecking shit in the vehicles was so satisfying
BRO thank you for this review hahah the reaction to the snowstrooper zigzagging is too real lmao
Empire at War is so underrated :(
Also i definitely neer to try the hard mode lol
Can’t wait for the remaster to come out and wreck evryone on PC like the old days
oh yea been waiting for this one!!!!
I know that Pandemic really had to cut features back on BF1 to make it work (especially with console limitations). It would really be neat to see the capital ships be functional on ground maps as they had intended. Vs just being skydome props.
aweome Video. 9 / 10
Just stumbled on this video. Want to say I completely agree with you on ever point from the ant analogy, to the ship style, to the exact opinion on the new battlefront games. While battle front II is the better game for some reason I truly like the first one better. Also glad to know I’m not the only one that loved the tatooine dunes map with the tuskens as a third party.
Loading screen sound effects hit different too
Thanks you sir wizzard
Outstanding video! Subbed
I downloaded this game again literally last week. Still so much fun.
Ahah what a coincidence star wars battle front was the first game I ever learned to play at my great grandma's house over the weekends as a kid
I’m one of the few Star Wars gamers that only had this game, not 2. So for me this is my nostalgic BF game
