I found the old T5 Florescent based Emergency lights (this is the UK) last much longer than the horribly crappy LED ones they have also installed in the school I had work experience in, (I worked in IT) one of the jobs was attending to a power failure in a network cabinet, the buildings RCD (GFCI) tripped and none of the LED emergency lights where still working, the power had gone out at 04:34 at night, so the power had been off for some time, the Old 80s Florescent one's where still On!!! After lasting way longer than I had expected.

Maybe having a breaker, which controls only the loop for exit signs and emergency lights, and this breaker is in the same breaker panel as other loads. Can make inspections easier while not interfering with their emergency functions. When inspecting, just switch off a particular breaker for energency light/exit sign loop. When there is a power outage, there will be no power to this panel and emergency lights still function as designated. This looks like a common method used in construction projects in China which is assigning a breaker specifically to these emergency equipments. Unsure whether Canada's local codes or requirements allow this kind of installation.

Last year, my school had a lot of older incandescent emergency lights, and towards the end of the year I noticed they where testing them except a good amount did not work at all, and over the summer during marching band camp they where replacing every emergency light with new LED ones and one of the maintenance guys actually let me keep one of the old ones so I just fixed it and have it in my garage now

Have some emergency lights in my office that are leaking black liquid, is that battery acid? Also in one of the two affected fixtures I observed the transformer inside (the thing between the battery pack and the circuit board) I noticed it being stained with such liquid. Is this just a matter of ordering replacement battery packs or do you recommend I let the owners of the building have their property manager send someone?

The buzzing noise is a transformer. It’s buzz when low voltage applies.

I don’t think so I think it’s actually the relay trying to switch over to battery but there is not enough power to do so because when you hit the test button it will disconnect the transformer

Hi nic, As an american I find it weird that in canada exit signs and emergency lights must stay on for only 30 minutes because here they must work for 90 minutes, Also awesome video hope you have a great day.
