Honestly, the third season felt so rushed, I'm really not sold on it. I said "oh, that just happened, that was quick" quite a few times. Am I missing something?
Personally, I prefer season 2. S3 has various amazing moments, but overall it dont feel as good, specially the ending (its amazing in the animation side, but the more you think about it the more it looks too convenient)
"I didn't think Claudia and the brother would be bad" Hoo boy. But Amaya is indeed deaf. She actually signs to Callum that yelling won't help because she can't hear.
On the sorcerer and his children, family loyalties and morality is an ongoing theme/conflict. I think it gets darker as the seasons progress. One of my favorite dark magic moments is in season 2 though. I just found out that the dragon prince was approved for the whole saga! 7 seasons!
@@Arezoo298195 about the 7 season saga? I saw a statement from the creator saying Netflix had approved it. Hopefully nothing changes that because I would be super sad as well
That's actually my least favourite part of this show. It's so good as its own serious world building. The cheap reference humour really takes you out of the show. Same with the "here's wonder wall" joke in season 2. Urgh.
I clicked so fast. I love the Dragon Prince, and I’m so excited that you’re watching it Edit: Amaya is deaf, not mute. It’s a little hard to tell at times, but I’m pretty sure that’s what she’s supposed to be Edit 2: to answer your question about the dragon’s name, I believe it’s because Ezran can talk to animals, so the dragon told Ezran his name Edit 3: the animation gets smoother as the show goes. A lot of people weren’t super into it at the beginning as well Edit 4: (I’m adding these as I watch, so that’s why there are so many) I believe the wolf walked normally because Lujanne, the illusionist, said it felt just like it was a real leg. So perhaps she was able to walk normally because it felt as if she had four legs and could support her weight with it? I’m not entirely sure
Important to know that Moon Elf illusions aren’t just Light illusions. They’re the generalised Illusions which fool all your senses but don’t actually correspond to reality. Have you ever heard of a Auditory illusions? or Tactile Illusions? There isn’t just Optical illusions. There are sensory illusions for every sense And it’s cool to see a Magic system that explores all these types of illusions rather than relying on only light-like every other fantasy does.
You are right regarding Moon Illusions, they influence more than just sight, they influence all the senses, allowing Mages to create different alternate false realities if they’re powerful enough. Kind of like the Mist in Percy Jackson, I think. Regarding Hinduism, as a Hindu myself, our concept of the grand illusion (Maya) isn’t exactly like a ‘false reality’, it’s more like a distraction from the ‘Great Truth’ of the universe, which can only be sought out when you leave the ‘false pleasures and deceptions’ of the physical world. Avatar had similar themes.
The animation style itself isn't the problem, it's the frame rate. And they couldn't make it better with their budget. But don't worry, they got a bigger budget next season and the frame rate ame animation gets much better.
The 3d animation is making my eyes bleed, argh it is giving me kingdom flashbacks. If only there was a manga that I could read instead, so far only Dorohedoro used 3d animation well uwu.
@@Multifar The animation in first season is not great, I think even fans know that. But it gets better in both season 2 and 3 (also season 3 is just perfect and I need more). Pd: just to clarify, I'm not saying is bad, but you can clearly see how choppy it gets at some points. Although I really love the art style
I highly recommend watching Trollhunter on Netflix. It's not related to ALTA, but nonetheless a great kid animated show with a great world and amazing chararcters. And it's also created by the legendary Oscar-winning Guillermo del Toro!
Wakfu is also really good. It's a French kids show (but dang does it get dark and have some really raunchy humor). The character building and worldbuilding in that series are very good. Just watch the french sub. The dub voice actors are absolutely horrendous.
I don't really like it... It's trying to be appealing to kids and teens, and kind of does the opposite... But it's nice that you like it... But maybe I am just salty because the characters I shipped didn't come together...
Glad you liked the first season, it only gets better from here on (the animation too). Netflix has greenlit seasons 4-7 so the show will be completed the way the creators planned. There is also a *cannon comic/graphic novel out called "Through the Moon"* that is set between seasons 3 and 4, highly recommend! Btw Amaya is indeed deaf, she tells Callum that "shouting doesn't help" and Ezran knew the dragon's name because he can talk to animals. Also, the narrator at the start of episode 1 is voiced by Koh the Face Stealer from ATLA.
I haven't watched season 2 yet but honestly I think if Claudia and Soren weren't loyal to their dad I think they would be good (or at least neutral) characters. Especially Claudia since she is shown to be very perky, upbeat, and kind despite being skilled in the art of dark magic.
I thought because he was now the dragon king, so he could uhm... Idk the english word I am aorry, but like, you know, free people from debt and stuff...
Huh, I never thought of Rayla as the stereotypical assassin. Yes, she is super badass but she is also so kind and caring, sarcastic and really funny (more so than Callum in my opinion), charismatic and goofy at times. We also got some of her insecurities and fears in this first season, so she's not perfect, but that made her pretty realistic to me and out of the three in the group, I related to her the most :)
Same :) I completely relate to the feeling that you're never good enough and constantly beating yourself up. Callum I can't really relate to because I kind of found my footing in life pretty early. Ezran.... He's too precious.
Oh yes, I could tell she was lip reading, I was just talking about the times where she wasn't looking at a character the whole time they were speaking but seemed to still understand
@@aaravos4371 yeah she always had her translator with her. They thought really hard about this. They even use real ASL. Which my half deaf bestie nearly screamed over. Apparently the aunt will tell a joke and my damn bestie won’t tell me what she said.
I think Viren (the sorcerer guy) is extremely well written. He has shades of grey instead of just being 'evil', and I really appreciate them doing that.
Exactly! At the beginning you could already somewhat see what direction he was gonna go, but he definitely wasn't a straight up villain. I love him as a character. He has depth, great development and still manages to stay morally/psychologically complex and layered... His descent into darkness also feels very natural and gradual. And I absolutely love the character psychology - how he still believes he's in the right and convinces himself that he's doing everything for the greater good, when in fact his motivations are becoming more and more corrupt as he goes and he is starting to bend the rules more and more...
@@DoggyP00 He is getting there gradually perhaps, but he definitely didn't start out that way. I could understand his reasoning, however flawed it might have been. And there's no denying he genuinly loved and cared about Harrow. Even now, I would say he is not just evil for evil's sake, drawing pleasure from causing others harm or whatever. No, he has his motivations. I'm pretty sure he does quite a good job convincing himself that all he's doing is for a purpose, for the good of the kingdom, that he is doing the right thing, what needs to be done. Of course, he is getting more and more consumed by the darkness and his hunger for power... He becomes more and more evil as the show progresses. But I definitely wouldn't class him as a black-and-white, "pure evil" kind of villain. I think he's very human.
14:57 Ezran can talk to animals. That includes baby animals too. When the dragon egg was conceived his mother told his name to him multiple times. That's how Zym knew his name and by extend Ezran. The eye opening part I don't know.
When you talked about Callum, Ezran and Rayla's character I have a feeling you'll like how they develop in season 2. There is so much more that I didn't expect. I'm so excited for you to watch it 😁
Oh so neat! I had no idea you were going to watch the Dragon Prince! This show was made by Avatar’s head writer, Aaron Ehasz. This essentially means you have strong character development and throughly explored arcs and themes to look forward to! Excited to hear your thoughts as the series goes on!
The toad licking the eyes of the dragon isn't that weird most animals get licked by their mother to clean them off when they are first born and since ez likes animals it's something he may just know or have picked up.
MERPHY I LOVE YOU SO MUCH, YOU'RE JUST REVIEWING MY FAVORITE SHOWS RIGHT NOW!!! Also I trust your judgement so much, I love hearing your thoughts thank you for this!!
I know right, speaking of which. The Dragon Prince REALLY gives me Stormlight Archive vibes. There are literally swords that cut through ANYTHING, and some reason, the sun-elves remind me A LOT of the Parshendi
I’ve been planning to start this series, but I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. I heard they changed the animation style after season 1 because a lot of people complained that it was jarring.
To your nitpicks, some explanations: Yes Caludia and Soren will have lots of moral dilemmas in following seasons, I think the dragon told Ezren his own name, the licking eyes thing is just pretty common in all newborn animals so I went with that it's something Ezren knew as part of his animal knowledge, the ribbon biting thing is never explained, and the animation is because of low budget, it gets better
While I currently like ATLA way more, The Dragon Prince is pretty good and I can’t wait to see how they wrap up the series. I do think it’s interesting how their magic system (at least to the best of my knowledge) is VERY soft when compared to ATLA. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I am worried it’ll turn into a crutch/plot convenience.
I don't think its super soft. the rules are pretty clear: magic comes from specific power sources , and you can't make something from nothing. soft is TLOTR, or Potter. but I also like ATLA more. it had more substance.
@@mariosblago94don’t those rules technically hold true in Harry Potter too? Hermione insists you can’t create food from nothing, and magic is in certain things (wizards, unicorns, etc). Again there’s nothing wrong with soft magic, I just don’t get why moon magic (which deals with mostly illusions) would be able to do the death bracelet deal? It was going to literally cut off her hand, not create the illusion it was gone. It’s been a bit since I’ve seen the show so feel free to correct me lol
@@beccag2758 Not at all. That's specific to one spell because it was convenient to the plot. in Potter they make fire lighting and water out of nothing all the time. Dragon prince is consistent and makes the entire magic system and plot revolve around it. Also it's not about "matter" to be duplicated. it's about energy. This type of system is somewhat based on RL concepts like thermodynamics. i don't remember the details of the bracelet thing though. would have to rewatch. but you follow the rules of the system: dragon is a direct source of magic. He can break weaker magic.
@@mariosblago94 huh I always assumed with the water charm they were just summoning it, not truly producing it. As for the other two, I don’t consider that the same as actually producing something they’re not tangible things made up of matter right? (I don’t know too much about the actual physical nature of fire or lightening though) Dragon prince breaking the bracelet always made sense to me cus like you said, it’s just the deal of him being incredibly magical, more so than the binder. I guess my main confusion is how they’ll do stuff like Claudia specifically saying why she chose to use the baby deer to heal Soren (which is just super cool and makes a lot of sense) but sometimes it felt like they just can use whatever magical creature for whatever dark magic spell. Dang now I wanna rewatch the series and see if stuff just went over my head the first time😂
I think it was so perfect to have Zym be able to remove Rayla’s band as it was a representation of justice for his alleged death. Also dragons are very powerful in this world and it adds to the mystery of their abilities.
Oh my goshhhhh, I was hoping you would watch/react to this! It's my favourite animated series right now and I think it has the potential to be my favourite of all time! I'm so happy to see a review from you - just wanted to express my excitement before properly tuning in!!
The baby dragon getting off Raylas bind is because the bind is here still on Rayla because she didnt kill Ezran, as revenge for the baby dragon. now the baby dragon is alive so there is no need to kill Ezran as revenge for him. imo its symbolism, not a convenient plot point.
So glad to hear how much you enjoyed this show!! I feel the same way and watching these UA-cam reviews/discussions is a great way to lessen the pain of waiting for S4 lol. The characters really shine throughout the series, and ez definitely has more cool stuff to do in upcoming seasons :3
The animation style gets better, but yeah, it's rough. It's the cheap decision lately on how to use CG but make it look animated by taking out frames. It looks really bad, but it does get better. I'd honestly say the first season is the weakest and the show just keeps getting better. Glad you enjoyed it!
Yesssss!!!!! You don't know how happy that made me! I was so hopping youre gonna watch the dragon prince! It's my fave tv show on this earth. Similarily to avatar, my other fave tv show, it has a huge jump in quality from season one to two. Season 3 is one of the best seasons of any show I have ever seen. Im sure youre gonna love it! :D [I swear season 3 is gonna be so cool, it goes THERE. The stakes, the drama, the consequences, the amazingly crafted character develompent. I am so happy to know we are gonna get the full saga.]
There’s an ATLA Easter egg in (I think) the first episode when Claudia is about to run into a tree, the book she’s reading is Love Amongst the Dragons, which is a play Zuko mentions in the Ember Island Players
As an American Sign Language student, I started watching this because I heard there was a deaf character who uses ASL and is treated as capable and generally as an adult human. I really really loved Amaya. I know she lipreads more than she should (because lipreading isn't effective communication), but that the animators took the time to learn and animate real American Sign Language means a lot. And Amaya is a full character with traits that don't stem from her deafness, she is brave and loyal and deeply attached to her family. I love how much love and research went into creating Amaya's character.
I made it halfway through your review and decided to watch the dragon Prince on Netflix and binged all three seasons and now I'm just waiting. It's well written well acted love the voice of Sokka and the Irish elves lol thank you
I was surprised about the dragon biting the bind off of Rayla and it made me think back to Korra getting her bending back in Book 1, but I think the dragon being magic means it can cut the bind. Also, the fact that it looks like a Fire Emblem video game really fits with the world. The movements could have been more fluid, but it's still really beautiful in my mind.
heck yeaa i’m so happy to hear that you enjoyed this show because i love this series!! one of my favorite part of this series has got to be the diversity and also the characters themselves are very enjoyable to follow. wait till you get to the 3rd season, it’s amazing!
Callum is fantastic, I love that we have a main character who really wants to think about his actions and his sense of adventure is led by his want to learn. Usually intelligence isn't a main trait in protagonists and it's really disappointing.
About the sorcerer thing: I'm fairly sure the old sorcerer wasn't Viren, but rather one of the first sorcerers to use dark magic. The purpose of the butterflies isn't to make him younger, but to mask the effects of dark magic on his face.
Oh, cool! You're watching _The Dragon Prince_ now. A great series IMHO (I finished it about a year or so ago on Netflix). Ezrin can actually talk to animals. If memory serves, Azymondias told Ezrin what his name was and Ezrin decided to shorten it to simply "Zym". Claudia and Soren are very interesting because on the one hand, they're both basically kind hearted, and on the other hand they have Viren as a father. They both want their father to be proud of them (what child WOULDN'T want that?). Because she's following in her father's Dark Magic footsteps, she probably has less empathy for critters than Soren does (they're just power sources for spells). It is fascinating to watch this dichotomy unfold. I do not believe Ava's walk/run was that of a three-legged wolf while the illusion was on. I would think that would get noticed; especially by Ellis while she was riding her (granted it's not like she has experience riding four-legged wolves). I like Rayla a lot. She an absolute badass in terms of her fighting skills, but has no problem admitting that she will probably lose to a Moonelf who has more experience that she does. She does NOT like to kill without reason (a bad trait for an assassin, but a good trait for a sentient being). And she HATES being on the water. I can't wait until you review Season 2. :-)
You don't have to worry that much about the waiting, I watched everything that came out so far and season 3 (the newest one) doesn't end on a cliffhanger:)
My husband and I starting watching this, finished series 1, loved it then stopped due to life taking over. My kiddo is now old enough that they might enjoy it so will sit down with them and enjoy!
Omg, I just watched The Dragon Prince for the first time, and I don't know if I'm mad now that I didn't watch it sooner or that I didn't wait longer to watch it. It's so amazing and I just love it and now I have to wait for the 4th season 😭
About your prediction of the king being alive, many have come to the consensus he’s likely in his bird, Pip, because the bird was there and Viren spoke to the bird in season 1 immediately after the “death”
The animation is due to Netflix wanting their animation to be CG, which honestly makes me sad because most anime they decided to animate in this style would’ve been better hand drawn
So excited you’re watching this! I really enjoyed your Avatar and Korra reviews and watched them right after I finished each season. Now I’m almost done with this show; I started it right after Korra. (I’ll try to keep this spoiler free, but fair warning, it might not be.) Speaking of the dark tones, this is really not a Y-7 show unless your seven year old has the guts for gut-punching death scenes and even light body horror. The humor, in my opinion, doesn’t do enough to leaven the tone, while Avatar walked that fine line and delivered heavy themes and the perfect amount of jokes.
What I love is the diversity in this show! Racially, romantically but also people's abilities or disabilities and that people from different area's and regions have different accents!! Amazing! Also loving the modern culture references such as Callum and his Boomerang (ATLA) and Lord of the Rings ("We can't just walk into Xadia"). I am sure you will love the coming seasons!
Viren isn't the same character as the old guy in the prologue. The incident with the egg happened more recently than the huge event that the prologue explains. They elaborate more later.
Not my original thought but I agree with it. The king is in the bird. The sorcer did say to it "what nothing to say anymore" or something on those lines. Also they gave Ez the ability to talk to animals, so he'll actually be able to talk to his dad again! If he does take the throne he can rule with his bird dads guidance, and that is so wholesome and I hope it happens.
I love this show so much. Also, as a mixed person myself, it was amazing to see a biracial royal family in a fantasy setting. Something you don't see often. And it's not a big deal or a plotpoint or anything. It's just...there. For no reason. Which makes it even better.
The main thing about Soren and Claudia is that they are extremely loyal to their father. You said you were confused whether they're good or bad, but I don't think it's so simple as "good" and "bad" with these two. They DON'T SEE Viren (their father) as bad, they trust and respect him completely. He's powerful and authoritative, and above all he's their father. Soren is also desperate for his love and approval. And also, as you surely noticed, Soren is not the... most perceptive or the brightest of people. Honestly the siblings are probably my favourite part of the show. I love the moral greyness they're balancing and how they're really neither good nor bad, but rather you get to see _their_ side, _their_ beliefs and motivations, and you just... understand where they're coming from. Maybe you'll get more of that in season 2, I honestly don't remember what happens in what season, but that's my take on the twins, anyway.
@@ApequH Same same!! I feel like the theme of family in general is really central to this show, and I love how they explore ot from various different angles. I really can't wait for the next season(s). I'm very excited to see the twins' arcs unfold. *SPOILERS BELOW* I love Soren. I'm super worried for Claudia though. She's down a very dangerous path and I really hope she gets her act together before it's too late... What breaks my heart more than anything is seeing sibling torn apart and turned agaist each other..
Watching all the seasons of Dragon Prince with my older kids and teens was one of the most fun filled things we did since watching all of Avatar, The Last Airbender. You're going to love this other seasons. We can't wait for the other seasons/series in this same universe that the creators have promised.
Aaron Ehasz was the head writer for Avatar: The Last Airbender. He also wrote for Futurama, which is telling from the humour and gags that come through. Justin Richmond, the co-writer and co-creator, didn't work on the Avatar series.
My sister and I binge watched the first season when it came out but never got around to watching the other seasons after. Your review makes me want to watch it again and watch the other seasons.
One thematic parallel to ATLA is the importance of breaking the cycle of revenge. Makes me assume that Aaron Ehasz was the one who introduced it to Avatar in the first place.
I mean the dragon was “the dragon prince” so one of the strongest dragons, so it makes sense that he could break it off. Also, I think they gave the dragon his name, like Zym I think.
Zym, or Azymondias, knew his own name already. Ezran can talk/ communicate with animals so he could somehow understand that. I don't know how exactly this communication works.
@@Stefan-xt5sk The popular theory about that is that Ezran is close to unlocking a connection to the Earth arcanum, as communicating with and understanding animals is an aspect of the Earth primal (explained in a book as being shared by earthen elements of rock, minerals, ore; but also animals and plantlife). We havent actually met any Earthblood elves yet though so there hasnt really been a window into Earth magic (as we havent seen either Earth or Ocean magic performed yet). Book 4 should be Earth though so should find out more about it soon
@@georgercop That's... yeah! That probably also explains the "stone-rock-rock-stone-rock". He didn't just try all possible combinations or saw someone doing it. He can probably see and understand the difference and feel there was something more to that
Not sure if you'll see this, but I thought I might just add some context to what you said about "the writers of Avatar". This show is in fact written by one of the head writers of Avatar, Aaron Ehasz, who was absent from Korra (that was all Bryke). I feel like Aaron is a very underappreciated contributor to Avatar, since so many people see it as Bryke's baby - which it is for sure - but Aaron really brought a lot of their ideas to life imo. From what I've heard, it was actually his idea to have Toph be a blind earthbending girl (initially I believe she was supposed to be a guy). That info could be wrong, but seeing as Aaron seems to really like including characters with disabilities in what he writes (like Amaya in TDP) I wouldn't be surprised that that info is true. Just thought I'd add that. I really love this show as well :)
Friends in the comment section, Can we all agree we're looking forward to Merphy's reaction to the "I could become a poet" scene in Season 2? Makes me want to renew my netflix subscription to watch it again..
For the animation, it get's a lot better in the next seasons! It was partly a stylistic choice but also the budget wasn't to big so it was a bit of a budget choice as well. I really, really love this show! and it gets much better over the seasons! There will be 7 seasons in total so I can't wait for the next seasons and your reviews!
20:51 I know you said to not tell you, but I think you are confused. This is not a spoiler but a correction to something I think you got wrong. I don't recall it ever mentioning that the sorcerer in the opening "info dump" is Viren (sorcerer guy in present day). Either I missed something, or you made an assumption. ***SPOILER BELOW****.....kinda Incoming Stop if you dont want it I didn't miss anything, they're are not the same guy. At least, it has not been revealed or really hinted at up to this point. I suppose it's possible that Viren changed his name? The other dude's name is Ziard and he discovered dark magic or something. He seemingly died, revealed in 3rd season. He also has a very different personality than Viren. Ziard is actually closer to Claudia
For me, I love that the voice actor who played Sokka was able to play someone so vastly different, where even though we first hear Sokka, he quickly goes into his own. Unlike Avatar though, he's playing someone whose just unsure of himself, someone whose more afraid, who feels useless, to where having magic becomes his identity, and watching him longing to gain more, only to give it up really pushed him to a great character that I feel is beyond worthy. I love Rayla whose own conflict is amazing in itself, watching her struggle, nearly fail, having her deal with nearly losing her hand over her own choices. Ezra is the first child character that I love, and feel like he's such an amazing, wise individual. Yes, the art style was very odd, but after halfway through, it grows on you.
If you liked the first season wait until you get to the third one. It’s MAJESTIC! 💖

@@JustAnotherGeekX Does the graphic novel cover season 1? I'd love to just read it and then start watching from season 2.
The graphic novel takes place between seasons 3 and 4 so probably wait to read it 👍🏻
The first season is hard to watch. Literally. Once you get pass that though, it gets pretty good.
I highly recommend watching Trollhunter on Netflix. It's not related to ALTA, but nonetheless a great kid animated show with a great world and amazing chararcters. And it's also created by the legendary Oscar-winning Guillermo del Toro!
I am so glad she is watching this and was gonna recommend Trollhunters and its spinoffs. I think she'd love it!
@@thegleeman7535 never heard of the show, but it sounds great. Thanks for the recommendation!
So glad someone mentioned it! My favorite cartoon show of all time!
Four to seven!!!!!!!! Holy shit that made my night. I love this show
I think Claudia and Soren are two of the most interesting characters in the show.
That’s an understandable opinion
Aaravos and Rayla for me
i still dont know how to handle claudia being goofy while...doing...bad things.
I haven't watched season 2 yet but honestly I think if Claudia and Soren weren't loyal to their dad I think they would be good (or at least neutral) characters. Especially Claudia since she is shown to be very perky, upbeat, and kind despite being skilled in the art of dark magic.
They knew dragon's name because Ezren can speak to animals, and Azymondias's mum spoke to him while he was in egg.
This is literally in the dialog of the show
I love the way they did the magic in this series.
Oh man Rayla will tug at your heart strings later on trust me... She became my favorite after season 2 and shes my favorite now
She made me nearly cry. She is great.
She's the perfect combination of badass and adorable 💖
Yep she's awesome and I felt like I could really relate to her in season three
The little dragon could destroy raylas bracelet, because the guilt was payed of, because he was now alive and ezran didin't have to die anymore
Huh I just thought it was because dragons are just insanely magical, stronger than the moon magic used to bind the bracelet.
I thought so to, but this is a very good theory
I thought because he was now the dragon king, so he could uhm... Idk the english word I am aorry, but like, you know, free people from debt and stuff...
@@burntsoup4063 pardon?
@@burntsoup4063 that’s actually an interesting idea I hadn’t thought of
Ezran goes in some REALLY interesting directions in Season 2 and even more in Season 3. You’ll definitely like him a lot more.
Rayla too. And Claudia and Soren
Some deaf people can actually lip read. Like a character that I knew from a book.
Oh yes, I could tell she was lip reading, I was just talking about the times where she wasn't looking at a character the whole time they were speaking but seemed to still understand
@@merphynapier42 huh really? I’m gonna go rewatch those scenes again.
@@merphynapier42 Oh I think Gren was translating in those scenes although I could be remembergin wrong
He has shades of grey instead of just being 'evil', and I really appreciate them doing that.
a very road to hell paved with good intentions type of character
He very much is just evil
It's to get the gunk out of the eyes from being born. I know that most mammals do this, not sure about ones hatched from an egg tho.
What an amazing surprise! I didn't even know you were watching this! AMAZING
Please please more videos on the dragon prince - I enjoyed this one a lot ♥️ Hope you and your family are well and safe 🙃
The toad licking the eyes of the dragon isn't that weird most animals get licked by their mother to clean them off when they are first born and since ez likes animals it's something he may just know or have picked up.
No reminders of Avatar at all?
Oh the beautiful Easter eggs
BOOMERANG!
MERPHY I LOVE YOU SO MUCH, YOU'RE JUST REVIEWING MY FAVORITE SHOWS RIGHT NOW!!!
Also I trust your judgement so much, I love hearing your thoughts thank you for this!!
Soren is the Dragon Prince's Adolin. They a really similar
I always pictured Adolin as SOlen when I was reading Way Of Kings, it fits perfectly
I know right, speaking of which. The Dragon Prince REALLY gives me Stormlight Archive vibes.
There are literally swords that cut through ANYTHING, and some reason, the sun-elves remind me A LOT of the Parshendi
I love love love stormlight archives and now I have to rewatch dragon prince for the 5th time just to see all that!
That's what I thought too!
I’ve been planning to start this series, but I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. I heard they changed the animation style after season 1 because a lot of people complained that it was jarring.
They increased the framerate and some stuff. The backgrounds are still mostly drawn 2D
Amaya is deaf, not mute. She specifically signs to Rayla to not look away so she can read her lips.
@@mariosblago94 only 3 out of 7 seasons came out, it's not really fair to compare them now.
(I don’t know too much about the actual physical nature of fire or lightening though)
Dragon prince breaking the bracelet always made sense to me cus like you said, it’s just the deal of him being incredibly magical, more so than the binder.
In the beginning episode you can see Claudia Reading a book named 📖 “Love Amongst the dragons” 🐉
Oh, for sure, the King is the parrot and Ezran is gonna talk to him! :D
Or that's my guess at least
Callum is fantastic, I love that we have a main character who really wants to think about his actions and his sense of adventure is led by his want to learn. Usually intelligence isn't a main trait in protagonists and it's really disappointing.
Why haven’t I heard of this!? I’m starting this show right now!
I am waiting for the next four seasons. I really am hyped for how the writers would pave a path for the story.
Merphy, did you watch Daniel's and Tim's video on Dragon Prince?
Suggestion: you can make a video on dragon prince with them.
She's deaf. At the cabin, Callum yells so that Rayla knows there are people there and Amaya signs saying "Callum, you know yelling doesn't help."
i love that youre now watching dragon prince ^_^
i cried at the end of the third season :D
Claudia is my favorite character so far.
Can confirm Amaya is deaf not mute writers said it themselves furring an interview I had to rewatch some senes to make sure it holds up and it does
i FREAKED OUT when i saw the dragon prince in the title of one of your videos ugghhh i love this show so much-
Yes, Aunt Amaya is Deff as well as Mute. Shes able to read lips though, so thats why she doesn't always have to have an interpreter.
(I’ll try to keep this spoiler free, but fair warning, it might not be.)
Speaking of the dark tones, this is really not a Y-7 show unless your seven year old has the guts for gut-punching death scenes and even light body horror.
YES! So glad you enjoyed this show as much as I did. Incredibly underrated.
Glad you like the first season. Looking forward to hearing about the next ones!
Can't wait for you to keep watching, the series gets better and better!
Omg, loved this video and your enthusiasm! This series is really good!
I love this show so much. Also, as a mixed person myself, it was amazing to see a biracial royal family in a fantasy setting. Something you don't see often.
And it's not a big deal or a plotpoint or anything. It's just...there. For no reason. Which makes it even better.
Your child will remember thoses scenes as nails being hit like a hammer.
He will be surprised and curious in a not so near future :333
Yes! No spoilers, but i like where they went with them!
@@ApequH Same same!! I feel like the theme of family in general is really central to this show, and I love how they explore ot from various different angles. I really can't wait for the next season(s). I'm very excited to see the twins' arcs unfold.

I love Soren.
I LOVE THIS SHOW SO MUCH!
Aaron Ehasz was the head writer for Avatar: The Last Airbender. He also wrote for Futurama, which is telling from the humour and gags that come through. Justin Richmond, the co-writer and co-creator, didn't work on the Avatar series.
Yay! I’ve been waiting for your review for Dragon Prince and hoping you’d watch it. ☺️
The animation will be greatly improved in season 2 and especially 3.
Gosh, I knew you would love this show
My sister and I binge watched the first season when it came out but never got around to watching the other seasons after. Your review makes me want to watch it again and watch the other seasons.
One thematic parallel to ATLA is the importance of breaking the cycle of revenge. Makes me assume that Aaron Ehasz was the one who introduced it to Avatar in the first place.
I'm soooo glad you liked it. I can't wait to see your reaction to season 2 and 3!
@@Stefan-xt5sk riiight, I just remembered they nicknamed him Zym, I haven’t seen the first season in a while
@@Stefan-xt5sk The popular theory about that is that Ezran is close to unlocking a connection to the Earth arcanum, as communicating with and understanding animals is an aspect of the Earth primal (explained in a book as being shared by earthen elements of rock, minerals, ore; but also animals and plantlife). We havent actually met any Earthblood elves yet though so there hasnt really been a window into Earth magic (as we havent seen either Earth or Ocean magic performed yet). I Watched season 1 yesterday and I was hooked and now I am halfway through season 3 and OMG is this thing beautiful. WOW.
6:03 "The GlowToad"??? He has a name!!!! It's Bait ... ;-)
Amaya is my absolute favorite character. I wish they could have more scenes for her.
Same!! Her sass reminds me of Toph, but more royalty like (I know Toph was born into high class, but that's not exactly royalty).

3) Had a 3-legged dog
The representation in this show is marvelous!

I know you said to not tell you, but I think you are confused. This is not a spoiler but a correction to something I think you got wrong.
I don't recall it ever mentioning that the sorcerer in the opening "info dump" is Viren (sorcerer guy in present day). Either I missed something, or you made an assumption.
***SPOILER BELOW****.....kinda

Stop if you dont want it
I didn't miss anything, they're are not the same guy.
I love the show! Im glad you enjoyed it aswell.
One of the first things that caught my attention to it, its how diverse the characters are.
Callum: One thought, head full. No time think, act now.
ohhhhh gosh... I love Soren
Now I'm probably going to re-watch the entire show
You actually learned ASL to talk to your deaf friend...... You beautiful bit*ch. ; _ ;
