I’ll never, ever, forget this film or S. E. Hinton’s monolithic coming of age masterpiece. When this film was released I was about Ponyboy’s age and really identified with him. I went to high school with many kids that remind of the greasers in this movie. I’m from Oklahoma and Tulsa, where this was filmed, is only two hours away. This movie will always be in my all- time Top 2 favorite movies. Long live Ponyboy and the Curtis brothers! 🎥🙌🏾😎🤙🏾✌🏾
one of the most beautiful movie ever seen by human eyes ... l love it so much ❤ and l love ponyboy ... thank you Stevie for this marvelous and so romantic song .
I read the book and saw this in 1992 in Junior high.I'm now in my mid 40's and I've bought the VHS and watched it every year. Now I have the director's cut on DVD,it's the best experience of the book on film.
I’ve seen two versions of the movie. One that was this, and the other started like the book. With him actually stepping out of the movie theatre and getting followed and jumped by the socs
This song makes me emotional every time! I still remember the first time I watched this movie and read the book, November/December of 7th grade, now I'm in the end of 8th grade! It felt so long ago but at the same time so recent. Love this movie so so much.
Really interesting way of displaying the credits. Showing the full list, then zooming in and rolling through the names. Not sure why Coppola went that route but it was a nice touch.
The big title scrolling across the screen and then the format the cast names are displayed in (although not the zoom-in) is a deliberate echo of the Gone With the Wind titles. :)
@@Sam-bc6sr i just today, 30 years after first seeing this film discovered this Gone with the WInd homage too! Coppola also had the church scene with Ponyboy and Johnny (nothing stays gold conversation) to match the scene where Scarlet and Pa look out onto Tara. I am very touched by this, the Gone With the Wind novel plays in important part for the characters PonyBoy and Johhny.....amazing very beautiful movie!
One of my favorites. So glad most schools, or mine at least, assign students to read the book because I would have never been know about the greatness of the outsiders
I kinda get emotional when I hear this. This is purely because I was in the play version of this exactly a year ago. I played the doctor. I enjoyed myself rehearsing and had no idea what was coming only a month later. The lyrics of this opening song remind me of the good old days before this damn curse came and ruined everything for everyone everywhere...
We just read the book and watched the movie They don't make them how they used to All these new movies are rushed junk I enjoyed it especially based in older times
The Outsiders is a classic film. Stevie wonder singing Stay Gold is also a classic.
They don't make movies like this anymore.
@HDF Films Well me too man. Me too.
2 years late, but there are some excellent films nowadays, i gotta say. the cinematography has become so impressive
With all this Marvel trash 😡, they don’t put love into movies anymore
For real
@@philswift3896 The Marvel movies are not trash. They are all masterpieces.

I wonder if how Ponyboy wrote his theme in the composition book was how S.E. Hinton wrote The Outsiders.
I hope you get to visit the outsiders home which is a museum now
S.E. Hilton was only 15 when she wrote the book, she was so talented starting at a young age.
Stay gold pony boy. Will never forget seeing this in the 80s as it touched so many of our lives.
This song is so comforting with this movie
My favorite movie when I was a young kid back in the Golden 80s.
This reminds me to enjoy every day

I read the book before the movie. It did not disappoint me as books into movies do sometimes. Still one of my favorites. ❤
Outsiders is one of the best movies I ever seen!!
Saw this 8th grade 05 for our book project. Everyone loved it. Miss those days
I’ve seen two versions of the movie. One that was this, and the other started like the book. With him actually stepping out of the movie theatre and getting followed and jumped by the socs
The director's cut is the opening where he comes out of the Paul Newman movie. That's the best version of this movie.
@@juliolopez6289 yea that one is actually like the book. The version I watched cut that all out and cut out the last couple chapters
Same
Do you know where to watch it or if they sell it anywhere

The beginning of the movie starts how the book ends with him writing about the beginning of the book, but the first chapter never happens in the movie
@@xexotics_fur1461 it does in the complete novel version :)

Never seen opening credits displayed like that since.
“when i stepped out, into the bright sunlight, from the darkness of the movie house, i had only two things on my mind: paul newman, and a ride home”
A very inspiring opening.
Make me think of my childhood. And i was born in the 80s
Every time I watch these opening credits I just remember listening to this beautiful song in grade 8 while watching this movie after reading the book
I remember watching this opening in class after the book ans holding back tears bc i didint want my classmates see me cry

Everytime I hear Stevie Wonder sing this song in the beginning I get really sad.

love the movie and the song!
I have a hard time reading :/
