I build maps that i like. Wether good or bad. My own opinion is what i value most. I will ask for feedback and make changes. But will also disregarde some feedback if i 100% dont agree or it goes against the point of my map
I really like to just build absolutely horrible maps that litterly arent even fun, but I also don't want to perse hurt others in for example RMC. so i usually end up just uploading them to my club (I dont only make bad maps though sometimes or usually even i try to make ATLEAST fun maps that are usually proper aswell, i kind of see the shitmaps as a break xD) however recently a project arose where people are purposefully building RMC killer shit maps and it seems kind of fun to join, bu now im not sure if i should. what do u think? or anyone that reads this for that sake.
I think those types of maps are naturally going to pop up from RMC being popular. To me, it's one of those neutral things where the map wasn't built with the best intentions, but it's going to be incredibly rare for someone to actually get it in their run. I personally wouldn't build a map that was explicitly built for no one to have fun with it and to ruin other people's days, but that's just me. It would probably be a map with 0 finishers for a long time, and that would take a lot of the fun out of it for me
hehe I made 2 campains for the danish community around 25 AFFUL maps cus i know they are pros, so its fun to make them shitty maps, they win money for 1st on each track, so they have to grind it even though it sucks, I have though now transistioned into wantin to build more serious maps in the next one :) made a full speed that actually works lol
An important thing to keep in mind is *why* good maps are valued over bad maps - its because they're fun to play. If a map is "good" but not fun to drive, is it REALLY good? If a map is "bad" but its really fun, is it ACTUALLY bad? Maps can also be fun in different ways. Some are unreadable unintuitive hot garbage but gets slightly more enjoyable each additional time you reach the finish, until you're on run #450 3 hours later and realize it's your favorite map of the past 30 days. Some are super fun on the sightread (sightdrive?) but awful slogfests when trying to grind for a good time. And yet others are so innately chaotic that the simple feeling of figuring out what to do and *conquering* the map is where the fun is (i.e. '23 Summer 08).
Excellent video, I completely agree. Its exactly the mindset I have recently and I've never been as productive as I am now, and Im having a lot of fun building maps ! On another note, the regular freezes in your footage is really stressing lol
It's a lesson I've been learning the latter half of this year! Do you have a timestamp to a particularly bad spot the background gameplay freezes? I'm not noticing anything on my end
@@TheAdamsMcCall All good! The gameplay freezes when I'm viewing it in my preview window in my editor, so it's good to know it didn't end up in the final render
lmao, I thought this comment was under my latest video, haha. The actual map in the outro is mine called "Slot Cars" and it can be found in the Maps? campaign in my club, "The Struggle Bus"
Good video, but I think the way this idea works is a little different to what you talked about or you didn't pinpoint it specifically, which is fine but I wanted to add my thoughts here. Even when you think your maps are getting better, there are always things you can do to improve, each map can be released and 20 people can say it has a problem you never noticed was there and now you know what to avoid and how to build better next time, each track will be a lesson learnt. My older maps which I thought were really good when they came out have turned out to be pretty bad actually. But they each represented a lesson to learn for the next maps, each one different than the last as I avoided problems I'd had before, so the best advice I could give to new mappers is: build the best you currently can and use the feedback you get to improve your skills next time, eventually you will chip away at the problems you face now and will build great maps. Still great video but this is my opinion on this topic, thanks for being around in the community :D
That's a very good point! I touched on it a little bit with the "Don't be afraid of building bad maps" but probably should've spent a little longer on that concept. Maybe in a future video ;)
I WILL create bad maps and nobody can ever stop me
That's the spirit!
❤
Great video, lots of points i have never heard before, taking all of this into account while i map now!

Can you share the rails from "Slot Cars"? Can't find them anywhere, but it looks super fun to play with! :D
