  • Find out how you can make a mannequin head with paper mache. You need: a plastic bottle and cup (this is the inner support). Mask tape, old newspapers, wood glue. And homemade paper mache clay for which here is the recipe:
    Soak a roll of toilet paper (unroll it first) in warm water. Pull it apart as much as you can to make a loose pulp. Squeeze the water. Pull apart to break the lumps and add little salt, 2-3 spoonfuls of corn flour and mix.Add 3-4 large spoonfuls of wood glue and 2 spoonfuls of wood filler putty. Knead everything together until it looks like dough.
    I have to say that I don't measure exact amounts, sorry for that.
    It sticks perfectly on the raw paper mache. When it's dry it is very hard. If there is any leftover clay you can store it in an airtight bag in the fridge for other projects.
    This elegant mannequin head can very well be used as a prop or as decoration. Enjoy!

    Combining "raw" paper mache (applying newspaper strips and glue, on an armature) with a homemade paper clay coating, gives a decent result, like plaster. There are many recipes for diy paper clay, you can use whichever you like. This elegant head is pretty hard and it will last for a very long time. Enjoy!

    Is it okay if i dont add wood putty on the paper clay mixture?

    • @babongababonga9588
      @babongababonga9588  7 місяців тому

      It can be wall putty. Works the same. I m not sure how stable it will be without any type of putty though.

    Is it okay to use cornstarch or regular flour instead of cornflour?

    • @babongababonga9588
      @babongababonga9588  4 роки тому +1

      I think, yes. I 've seen recipes with regular flour. Anything that gives a gluey consistency.

      Corn starch is the same thing as corn flour.

    • @conniesky5361
      @conniesky5361 2 роки тому +1

      @@LaynieFingers Cornstarch is a pure starch compared to flour. The reason for this is because flour contains gluten. The lack of gluten in cornstarch makes it more efficient in thickening. In fact, cornstarch has twice the thickening power of starch.

    • @LaynieFingers
      @LaynieFingers 2 роки тому

      @@conniesky5361 That is true, and irrelevant. What Americans call corn starch is the same material that people in the UK call corn flour. They're both made from the corn, while plain flour is made from wheat. If you look at my original comment, I wasn't talking about wheat flour, so while your comment is accurate, it really doesn't have anything to do with my comment.

    • @JJLuver33
      @JJLuver33 Рік тому +1

      @@LaynieFingers You're a bit rude, huh? Obviously, she didn't know that corn flour is the same as corn starch in the UK. Other people in the comments might have been confused by your comment, since only the UK and Australia call corn starch "corn flour"

    can you use aluminum foil instead of newspaper

    • @babongababonga9588
      @babongababonga9588  3 роки тому

      I haven't tried it with paper mache, but it could work if you used it as a core or inner support form, that you will cover after with layers of newspaper and glue, or paper mache pulp.

      Try to build the nose from less to more, gradually. When you make the first part (dry newspaper and mask tape), just make a very small triangular shape and tape it on the right place (it is easy to move that and check from all angles, nothing is fixed). Next, when you apply the layers, first just cover it and then add little volume at the tip and the nostrils, (still you can remove and correct the position of these addittions while is still wet). Also add volume between the nose and chin, to make the mouth part prominent. And always check your sculpture from every angle. Generally try to proceed gradually. Basically a nose is just a triangle in the middle of the face, and in a mannequin it can be kept simple and small.
