Hey thanks T-Roy!! I have to admit beef ribs are my favorite things to smoke and I was really happy that they turned out as good as they did with adding some of that Cabernet Sauvignon! Thanks for dropping in and leaving a comment bro, I really appreciate it! Be safe down there T-Roy!!!!
Great. Now I have to venture out into the COVID populous to get beef ribs! Shouldn't be a problem, all we've got down here is livestock and corn anyhow. At least all our snow is gone. He he he. Awesome vid, looked like fun! That two hour rest had to be murder. Surprised there was wine left to test the pairing! Ah, the power of editing. You and the fam stay safe, keep up the good work. I'm sure using the new grill more and more. Still learning, you're a big help!
Thanks Robert! Ya grab the hazmat suit and head out and pick up a couple racks! hahaha Ya it was torture waiting but it was worth the wait for sure! I appreciate you stopping in and leaving a comment! Glad my content is helping out bro! Be safe bro and have a good night!
Love your videos!! I’m very new to the smoke/ pellet world and have a lot to learn. I’ve done two cooks on my DLX and I like it but I have a good amount of issues with it (it’s not set it and forget it) I look forward to learning more from people like you about this grill. Thank you.
So far I have been pretty happy with mine Dennis! Only thing I have noticed that it runs a little hotter than what you are trying to set the temps at. I have done some pretty long cooks on it and when i am not filming I let it ride for 2 hours because I typically spritz anyways. Thanks for watching and glad you enjoy the videos! Next up a brisket, then I am doing a few charcoal cooks again but I will be back on the Rider!
I started with a zgrill 700e and then won a shit boss kc platinum after three of those warranty pits I went to the oj dlx and so far so good. I think I’m gonna try some beef ribs this weekend with my Clayton bigsby rub! Thanks for sharing the video looks awesome
Good luck Robert with the DLX! There can be some small issues at times with them but most people are having good luck! Beef ribs are awesome, my favorite!! Have a great week and thanks for watching!!
Excellent looking ribs. Great tip on checking your hopper for pellets. I've ran out before mid cook not paying attention or filling it before starting the cook. Haha kinda sucks to have to pull the meat and reset the grill. Thanks for sharing 👍👍
Ya Bubba once you get in the habit to check it it just becomes second nature! Thanks for dropping in and leaving a comment! Have a great day and be safe!!
Ya it is ok. Most cookers have some different heat zones but once you figure them out it is easy to adjust your cooking style!! Have a great week Kenny!
Ya Daniel mine was like that until I got a new igniter rod?!?! Not really sure how that changed things but it did. Mine runs about 25 degrees hotter. Thanks for watching and have a Happy New Years!!
Hey Ricer, I noticed a temp difference from the grate level to the upper grate on my Traeger similar to what you saw. After the seasoning built up inside the pit I have noticed the temperature profile has gotten closer to the controller set point. Grate level is dead on now. This has been a public service announcement to get people to stop cleaning their pits. If you read this on the internet it must be true. Beef ribs FTW. You need a bumper sticker that says "Loud Pipes Ruin My Audio Tracks" Thanks for the cook Jeff.
Hey thanks Brian!! YA still a new cooker and I agree needs to break in a little more but still very happy with how the DLX preforms!! Hahahah ya never fails when I start to record, I either got some loud muffler or some loud bird that is begging for some hot lead!! hahaha Thanks for watching bro and be safe!
Thanks Craig and ya I was so happy with the flavor I will always braise beef ribs with a little wine!! Really gave them an extra little pop!! Thanks for watching and you also stay clear of the sneezes!!
Hey Ricer those Short Beef Ribs looks absolutely scrumptious and I'm sure the wine took the flavor to the next level. Thanks for sharing my brother stay safe.
Ya Stephen I have done beef ribs many times but with that SA rub and the wine it really could be the best tasing beef ribs I ever did! Thanks for watching and have a great week bro!!
Thanks Charley!! I am really happy I dumped a little wine in that braising sauce for sure! Probably will do that more often!! I am excited to see you start cooking on your Rider DLX soon! Take care bro and be safe out there!
Enjoy the videos! Thanks. Suggestion. Maybe in the written information you could summarize the check times and total them all up so that I can refer back to the comments instead of having to take notes. At the end of the video I really have no idea what the total cook time was. Thanks. Just got my OKJ Rider 900 and I am anxious to learn.
I will do my best to give you that info! Main thing is probe tender and every pit is different so I try to give you check times and when I am closing in on the finish point I give you an idea what temp I start checking for probe tenderness. I typically run at 250° for about 6ish hours in the Rider but it always depends on the thickness and what temp you are actually cooking at at grate level. Just be patient and a good average final temp is 205°. Good luck and your 900 will run different than the DLX but you got this!!! Thanks for watching!!
I got me a DXL after seeing your videos. I'm new to smoking. Mine run around 60 -100 degrees too high and they are sending me a new auger to see if that fixes the issue. Has yours been fixed yet?
Hmmm no but I have changed out the ignitor and the LCD went out on the controller so I swapped that out also!! Hope the auger helps out and mine always runs about 50 over!! Maybe I need to give them a call but let me know if it helps out on yours!!
Thanks Todd! Ya these turned out pretty dang good and next time I will cook them at a little lower temp and get just a little more smokey flavor but I was shocked how good the wine went with them for sure! Take care bro!!
@@DeadBrokeBBQ the probe holes going through the cooking chamber; you said they weren’t large enough to fit the probe through. Are they large enough to fit the plugs through? Of course man gotta help the fellow Wisconsinites out
@@Wyatt274 oh ya I remember that now. My Thermoworks signals both ends are thick. Because of the cord thickness and the plugs or probe ends are really thick I could only get a couple through the small port on the side of that pit. Most box store pits have skinny meat probes so you can get all of them through. Thanks for the reminder and glad to have fellow gawd country folks subscribed to the channel!!!
Thank you Jeff and give it a try sometime! I was really happy with the taste of these for sure!! Never added any wine to smoked beef and it turned out dang tasty! Thanks for watching and be safe bro!
Thanks Terry and I really think from now on I will add a little red wine to the bracing sauce because wow it just gave it a little bit of extra flavor!!! Thanks for watching and be safe brother!
Honestly how do you like Ok joe DL pellet grill ? I’m thinking about buying one but the reviews not so great! But the cooks look awesome! How you like vs your pit boss ?
Prior to the new release of the Pit Boss Pro Series my vote was for the Rider but now with the PB having a PID controller I would steer you towards the new Pro Series 1150 or even the 1600. The DLX still has the better sear plate but man having a PID controller in a box store cooker is a HUGE step forward! Thanks for watching and let me know what direction you go!!
@@DeadBrokeBBQ Thanks for responding ... I have had the pit boss 1150 the PID controller was not working correctly wasn’t holding temps, and I called them several times but they said it was a defective and they had a lot of complaints, suggested I take it back to Lowe’s...I’ve owned other pellet grills in the past so I understand how to manage them.. however this was Ridiculous! I sent it back and was thinking about the PB 1600 they said it’s the same controller but they fixes the issues! Really like your videos!
Yes I was told they had a bad batch of controllers but what I heard is you send the controller in and in 4 days they will have it back to you. FYI I replaced the igniter and the controller on my DLX so all of these box store cookers are tricky. I will say the best pellet grill to date has been the Smoke Daddy Pellet Pro 1190. It is incredible how good it runs!!! It costs more but it is worth every penny IMO!!!
Dayummm good looking ribs and that sa is packed with flavor for a season all and I bet the wine was great as a braising liquid definitelygonna give it a try great cook and a awesome share brother

At least you can see the smoke work in this DLX. My Treager looks like the smoke doesn't even exist yet the rep for treager says it's a light blue smoke that can barely be seen. HUH? ok.
Ha ha well that is kind of true on the blue smoke but if you don’t have much smoke flavor then back the temps down some. They should all smoke up some when they drop some new pellets. Keep tweaking it and thanks for watching!
