The title suggests these vise grips are 150 years old, which can't be as they were invented in1924, thus the oldest they can be is 99 y/o !!! Starting the rehab process on a wire wheel from a bench grinder will move the process along much faster and yield better initial results before soaking.
Todo muy bueno, gran trabajo. Pero no vale para la herramienta. El costo de materiales y mano de obra supera por mucho el valor de una nueva de primera calidad. Vale como esfuerzo.
Your video is impressive for sure but you spent a fortune on materials and hours of labor to restore a 5$ Chinese Vise Grip. Your fortitude is commendable~! Great video work for us to see.
If they were not Vise Grip, they were just not worth ANY effort to save. I appreciate the skill you showed in their resurrection, but sometimes even though you can, you shouldn't. This was one of those times.
I surprised after all that, you didn't just chrome plate the tool. I sure hope you have a show box to put this into, because after all your work, finding them greasy at the bottom of a tool box would be such a disappointment. Nice work, thanks for sharing.

❤ A lot of time and effort went into the restoration. What is valuable is not only the restoration itself, but the experiments. It would be very good to know the weight of the piece before and after the video.
Should've tested the screw (that adjusts the teeth on one side) too. These particular pliers also have that extra clamp feature that keeps the handles from separating while using the pliers, unlike the other more basic with two longer handles. Simply turn the screw to move the teeth closer together, then squeeze the handles together until the clamp feature kicks in. To loosen the grip, simply turn that screw in the opposite direction and press the lever that sits between the handles. Just remember to separate the teeth via the screw before pressing the lever...the more you turn the screw, the less force you'll need to yank the handles apart.
@zekecorder8226 Some folks like me don't even acknowledge other brands. In fact, I don't own any import VG pliers. The only real VG pliers and the only ones worth mention or owning were those made in DeWitt Nebraska!
A job well done but why all the scraping of rust and rust removal if you were just going to use 80 grit to get down to the metal? It seems like you’re doing all the extra work for nothing. That being said, nice work. 😊
They definitely look better than they did and you put a bunch of work to get the at that point. They looked real good in some spots, but like shit and pitted in others. You should have tried to get all the pitting out of the pliers if you could.
It’s not about money, expensive or cheap. It’s about perfection…. Taking any piece of metal and make it beautiful and useable again. Artistry at its peak.
I would have dropped them on concrete to get the loose stuff off . An hour in Muriatic acid then washed them off with clear water. Heated them up and threw them in oil. That is just me.

In the case of this pressure pliers, the rivets could be ground and drilled with drills and a drill, then it would be easier.

These pliers were so far gone, I think I would have considered them too far gone to even attempt to restore. Amazing challenge and an amazing job!!
Glad you enjoyed it💗💗💗
Those 150 year old pliers look like vice grips which is interesting because vice grip pliers were invented in 1924.
❤
Another fake restoration...
I am sure it just a vice grip pliers
no, they look like Taiwan or China cheap copies made in the 1980's or 1990's, not real Vise Grips.
OUTSTANDING!! One of the best restorations I've seen!! NO BS!!
Thank You Enzo

When you put ENO in lemon juice, you are decreasing the lemon's action, as ENO is an antacid.

Sometimes you do these things just because you can. And if it's a cheapie and you screw up, then you've gotten the practice for the next one. 🤷♂

the chrome layer was sacrificial in preserving the metal underneath, hence the flaking at the start

Wonderful clean up job. I have 3 of those tools in my tool box they are called vice grips.

Those are the Whale Tool Corp. and are from 1949-1950. Hardly 150 years old. Another restoration lie to waste our time.
