What better way to start this Monday morning but to see an update from you Khristian. Great to see you my friend. I was fortunate to have an original copy of Forever Changes sent to me via VCLT. But I did pick up the reissue from Rhino that came out on RSD a few years ago. It includes a 7" single. I think that Ed Askew is from the state next to mine Connecticut. > I am glad that you showed Peter Hammill because I was asking someone in the VC recently about his solo music. What an amazing talent. Just watch some of the recent Van Der live shows. His vocals are just as good now as they were 40 years ago. I will check out Flamengo. I looked up the title for you and translated it means '"Chicken in the Watch". Whatever that means. Anything that Chris {JohnColtrane68} gives his stamp of approval on usually gets checked out. Thanks for passing the private press Ariel onto me. Sounds great. One of my favorite private press jazz prog albums was one that Chris sent to me. The name of the band is Genre and the album is called 'Commercial Success'. Here is the album in full if you want to hear it. One of my favorite websites for prog music called Prog Not Frog posted the whole album a few years ago. Here is the album and the website for you: prognotfrog.blogspot.com/2011/03/genre-commercial-success-us-1978.html Thanks so much for sharing all of these Khristain. Top notch post~ Rob/Boston
+Paneeks1960 Hey there Rob, So nice to hear from you. Yes Ed Askew is from Connecticut. He actually messaged me after i posted a review of one of his records online, to let me know about his new reissue. I was stoked to talk (online) to the man himself. A great poet and artist. You are gonna dig Flamengo i think. Its not Hard Fusion, its Progressive Rock in the style of Pink Floyd or Van der Graaf and its exceptionally good. I checked out the Genre link. Wow! That opening drum beat near knocked me off my chair. I knew id be in for a crazy ride with this one. Its certainly great stuff but it doesnt look like its available for under $100 anywhere i can see. Maybe someday ill come across an inexpensive copy. Hope youre going well mate and that everything is awesome where you are. Take care. - Khristian
Khristian cool to see some singer/song writer stuff and there is a lot I don't recognize so it was hear your thoughts on each of the albums. Love is fantastic and that album is essential to any collection. The Boscoe looks very interesting and I am looking for some new funk to listen too.
+BarakaPDub Hey man. Yes the 'Love' record is an old time fav of mine. An absolute essential record. The Boscoe is really great music. Highly recommended. Its a blend of things like Gil Scot-Heron meets early Funkadelic and other conscious Funk/Soul with a dark approach. Less hopeful, more brutal truth but really high quality record. Thanks for watching mate! I really enjoy your videos. Cheers. -Khristian
Great selection of records Khristian. I too have been on a listen to what you have kick lately and not buying much. Your right, it's really easy to neglect playing records sitting on the shelf when you're always bringing in new stuff. Forever Changes is such a great album. I lucked out and found my first copy at a thrift store for 50 cents, it's a 2nd press I believe and in really great condition. I also have a Sundazed reissue and the Rhino reissue, which I think sounds great. I would love to run across some records on the Actuel label, just don't ever see them in the stores here. Take it easy, look forward to your next video!
+Euphonious Monk Hey mate. Thanks heaps for watching and commenting too. The Love record is so great. Nice score to find an early press for 50c. That's incredible. The Actuel record i showed is my first one on that label as i dont really come across them either. Great stuff though and ill be keeping my eyes out for more stuff like that. Once i get some more funds behind me of course:-) Take care mate and looking forward to sharing some more music in the future with you. - Khristian
Lovely copy of Love! I just finally picked this up earlier this year, 80's pressing though, originals seem scarce and fairly expensive here in nice shape. Been eyeing that Boscoe reissue, one day I'll snag it. Cool Sonny Sharrock. Nice to see you back, cheers Khristian!
Hi Khris, Good seeing you back, Haven't been on much myself this season. You know how it gets, everyday life takes precedence. I wonder if Ed Askew is anything like Michael Hurley. Sounds like he recorded in a similar warts-and-all vein. Muck Groh sounds quite appealing. Love that Earthstar! Yes, certainly in the 'Berlin School' of synthesis. Can't get enough of that stuff. Not at all surprised brother Chris turned you on to the 'Ariel'. ;-) I found it in a local shop about a year 1/2 ago and thought of him right away. It was recorded in a small town about an hour south of me that I used to go to for years for this little bookshop that used to be down there. Alas, the shop closed down about 5 years ago and haven't been back down there since. Yes, fun record. Always fun finding a local private press. I've seen that Sonny Sharrock around. I have 'Black Woman' by him. I really like his playing in Last Exit, if you're familiar with them. Some fine revisits and newer finds overall. Good seeing you again. -Carm
+Gorvo31 Hey there Carm! Thanks for watching mate! Yes its been awhile. Still playing plenty of music but not getting enough time to report back on all of it. The Muck Groh you would love. Its great. And i knew you guys would already know and have the Earthstar and Ariel records. Right up your alley i imagined. The Ed Askew is a little beauty! I havent heard a great deal of Michael Hurley, only one record, but i guess its comparable mixing wise. What i like is Ed Askew's singing style and lyrics. Really raw and soul baring stuff that are more memorable to me than alot of other similar albums of the similar style. Having Brother Chris consistently and generosly sending through records of interest to bid is amazing too. (if not a little bit wearing on the wallet haha) Nice to hear from you again. Looking forward to some more music sharing with you. Cheers - Khristian
+Needle Groove Hey Keiran, Thanks for watching mate. Oh yeah you would dig the Sharrock record. Its intense listening Free Jazz in a really cohesive style. Very sweet. Cheers mate. - Khristian
Boscoe, I still need that one, it's pretty badass! that hammill is really nice I agree/ thanks for sharing that flamengo! I've listened to it on spotify, it's sound a little bit like some canterbury from tchekoslovakia, really nice/ cheers
Hi, Khristian, that Sonny Sharrock album looks interesting. I've heard Black Woman and everything I've heard on Actuel so far did not disappoint. Others look interesting too. I've only got a CD comp on Cherry Red Records. I've sent a parcel for you. -Birutė
+juodaavis Hey Birutė, Thanks so much. Im so excited to see whats in it and for you to receive yours in the hope I have sent you something you like:-) how exciting. hahaha!! Cherry Red records appeals to me a lot. I don't know all the output but what i have heard with the Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn stuff as well as this Maurice Deebank sounds really unique. Dreamy stuff. The Sharrock is intense and this is my first record on the Actuel label. Great to hear from you again and hope you are well and happy! - Khristian
Aha, there you are! Now to find Fred :P I have that Earthstar in the wantlist for a while now, I'll pull the trigger one of these days. I found Flamengo on Spotify. checking as we speak ;) Nice one, cheers mate, hope we see you again soon.
+sonicmainliner Hey mate! Yes We have all been a bit slack lately with the Videos. I cant speak for Fred, but i have just been so busy (such a boring word i know). That Earthstar record is top notch stuff. Really worthwhile. Id love to know what you think of the Flamengo record. Its one that i keep going back to. Cheers mate. Thanks for taking the the time to watch!! - Khristian
Try to give Genre's 'Commercial Success' a proper listen . I think you may enjoy it. Another sad example of a good band disappearing after putting out a really good album. Talk to you soon K~ Rob~
a bit of a folkie huh, have you checked out Ryley Walker's latest? Primrose Green, it's really really good, I think you'd dig it. that Ariel LP is super rare, been looking for that one, I'll have to check out that Flemengo one, sounds interesting. peace, Chris.
+MrTrendkill2 Hey Chris, Thanks for watching mate. Yes, that Ryley Walker is one of seen around on the VC a couple of times and its definitely my kind of thing by the looks. Sounds a lot to me like Bert Jansch from Pentangle. Great stuff there. Thanks for the tip mate. Let me know what you think of Flamengo. Thanks for watching!! - Khristian
Hello Kristian. Great choices I think, mostly unknown from me so it's perfect. I've a question : I can get a Peter Hammill of the 80s "Skin", cheap and mint. I've heard some parts online. Seems OK. Do you know this one and what do you think ? Bye.
+seizebreizh Hey there, Its hard for me to say as i don't know your taste. I don't have this one and as it is regarded by many to be a bit of a low point in his discography, i have avoided it. I think there a couple of good tracks on it... 'Now Lover', 'After The Show. But I would chase down the earlier stuff. Right up to 1983's 'Patience' which is a better example of Hammill in this period. Best of luck my friend! - Khristian

+Siren05 Thanks for your answer... week after week, I'm buying lps from a 80s radio collection, fair price, and of course limited choice... Bye.
