They will become even rarer. Typically in these cases a woman will have thought she was pregnant, but the months pass and her stomach doesn't expand further and no baby ever appears. These days, in wealthy countries at least, a woman has scans and her pregnancy is monitored. It would be picked up that something was wrong. That is why the women with these in recent times in the West are all elderly - their ill fated pregnancies date from before ultrasounds became common.
They may still happen in rural areas in third world countries were there is little antenatal care.
