It's honestly ridiculous how much time and effort was put into this video. Such an amazing job, you guys. If there ever was a kana learning video to end all kana learning videos, that must be it. While I'm way past this stage personally, the newcomers into Japanese who will find this are so, so lucky. Me, I'm just gonna watch it slowly for the heck of it, and because I'm very interested in the historical origins of kana (seriously, that one is just a cherry on top).
Like a lot of latchkey baby boomer kids in Hawai'i, I attended Japanese language school classes after elementary school. To this day I am familiar with the very baby language. So I can say "The little bunny eats candy" but I can't say "I'll meet you at the restaurant after work." Now that I'm retired, I can finally return to learning Japanese again, leaning on what I remember from kid-time but also studying as a successful adult LOL Thanks so much for your videos!
I must say, this is an absolute UA-cam Hall-of-Fame-worthy video. An amazing effort. Wonderful teaching. This is going to be a go-to classic that benefits people for many, many years. A great example of how passion and commerce can combine to serve others and add a worthwhile and lasting gift to the human family.
I've been dabbling with Japanese for a little while (I started in preparation for a trip earlier this year, and the small amount I had learnt was really worthwhile!), but only just came across your channel via a Reddit recommendation. Great timing! Learning Hiragana and Katakana together makes so much sense. Looking forward to sinking my teeth into this one. Thanks for your marathon effort.
I started learning Japanese today, and I'm so thankful i found your channel from the very start ! Thank you so much for all the effort and creativity ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I just came back from Japan and I saved this video while I was over there. This is the perfect video to kickstart my learning journey. Thank you so much for producing this!
I already can recognise enough kana (except tsu vs shi, so vs n and katakana nu) but this MA visual would have helped me recognise that in a heartbeat. great work💯
Thank you so much! I just bought a course book where hiragana and katakana are learned separately. Your approach is much more effective! ❤ and i love the pictures, they get really stuck in my memory 😊😊😊😊
wowww this is helping me so much! i just started and i’m worried my writing isn’t good enough since sometimes i tend to make the letters way more curve than how they really are. Anyways thank you so much for all your work!! you deserve much more recognition ❤
Updt: I know Kana now! I studied one section of video per day (one consonant row of kana) along with taking notes and writing practice + evening revision on the app. My middle-school self would be proud we can finally read Japanese : )
Amazing video and resource, thank you! One small bit of feedback. It would be good to caveat that the example pronounciation words given in English, e.g. "Na", as in "Nod" or "Nocturnal", are given from what appears to be an American POV. I'm Scottish and some of these I found a little confusing at first as I would pronounce these English words as "Nawd" and "Nawcturnal".
this is the best video ever, thank you tokini andy! i'm writing & speaking along with all of the provided kana & vocabulary !! tokini yuki's calligraphy is beautiful! 💝
I just started learning Hiragana and Katakana and this video is exactly what I needed. I totally agree with learning both at the same time and using the example of upper case and lower case is a really amazing way to describe them. Thank you 👍
I can't believe the effort put into this video, it motivated me finally begin my studies. Thank you so much, I wish I could do more to support your channel
I've been using this along with anki to learn kana thoroughly, about halfway through the video after 3 days. hopefully a week or two from now I'll have good recognition when it comes to speaking and listening to all hiragana and katakana :D
Greatly appreciate the video. Carefully studying it and making notes was my very first step in learning Japanese. Question to all readers: could you please recommend any free to use Android apps with dictionary and characters hand recognition? I tried 3-4 different apps, and all of them were bad.
You seem to be confused in choosing the title of this video. So As a viewer, I think the most appealing title would be "learn Both Japanese hiragana and Katakana in Only 2 Hours" or "You only need this video to learn Japanese hiragana and Katakana" or "You'll be able to read (and write) japanese after watching this video"
Perfect video for me since i asked my mom that i will go to japan and seek my collage degree there Since in my country its not even worth to take collage schools too many economy crisis and corruption
Obviously a great amount of effort have been put to make this video. Thanks. The practice words are especially well chosen and useful (although I’d like to see some kanji without putting emphasis on it with the furigana, just as an introduction of Japanese real reading and writing). In other hand, the memorizing tips are far too fancy and complex ( except a couple of them like MU) to reminds them quickly when reading furigana. I found origin parts totally a waste of time, and typing tips too, except a couple of them that are not intuitive like SI/SHI or HU/FU… This video could be greatly improved with under 1h45 duration.

Thanks so much! I also used Remembering the Kana. I enjoyed it, but I wanted to give teaching them TOGETHER a shot! 😊 Hopefully it will help some new learners out.
My Sensei is teaching us that if が、ぎ、ぐ、げ、ご are in the middle or end of the word, it is pronounced as nga, ngi, ngu, nge, ngo. Is that right? I just wanna make sure, It's so hard for me to adjust 😢
Some people do that, yes. But not everyone. Sometimes it’s regional, sometimes personal. Some people don’t do it at all. It’s good to be aware of I suppose, but not something you absolutely need to do. And it’s a bit more complicated than just being in the middle of a word sadly. 😅
blud telling me to take a break not knowing I used to play Rust for 36 hours straight, sleep for 6 hours then do it again. Then do that for weeks. DO not underestimate how much of a looser I am
I'd be super curious to know what region you're from, if you wouldn't mind me asking. 🙏 The "o" in otter and rot in the north eastern United States sounds closer to the あ・ア sound to me (but not quite right), and definitely not the お・オ.
@@ToKiniAndy so in the Northeastern U.S., I'm assuming the 'o' in 'otter' or 'rot' sounds a bit more open, almost like the 'ah' sound in 'father'? I don’t want to disclose my location online, but I’m not from the U.S., so it might be an accent thing. However, to me the 'o' in 'go' or 'no' has a subtle 'w' sound at the end, which makes it different from the pure vowel sounds in Japanese in お/オ. Besides 'otter' and 'rot,' here are some other English words that sound like お/オ to me: 'moss,' 'boss,' 'got,' and 'not.' I'm curious what they sound like to you

Hi there, do you have a Discord group for people who are trying to learn and would like to practice?
I learnt O as the o in golf because the ball is going into a hole. Dont know if it makes sense but thats what I learnt
I would like to sign up for the course directly but I'm Italian. Are there subtitles like on yt?
Unfortunately, no. We don't have subtitles yet. 😭
thanks anyway, I hope there will be a day to be able to follow this wonderful path you have created❤️❤️
