这次在拉萨与布达拉宫、大昭寺、八廓街都有了近距离的接触，但最令人难忘的还是磕长头。We visited Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Ba Kuo Jie, etc., but the most impressive was Kowtowing (see below).
磕长头是藏传佛教朝圣最为虔诚的仪式之一。磕长头分为三种：一是长途，行可多达数千里，经数月甚至数年，风餐露宿，朝行夕止，匍匐于沙石冰雪之上，执著地朝着拉萨、神山、圣湖等目的地前行；二是短途，顺时针围绕寺庙、神山、圣湖等，数小时至十天半月；三是就地。磕长头时五体投地是为身敬，同时口中不断诵佛是为语敬，心中一直念着佛是为意敬。磕长头为的是自身今生和来世的修持，也是为了普度众生。
Kowtowing is one of the most devout rituals in Tibetan Buddhism pilgrimage. There are three types of kowtowing: long-distance, which can span thousands of miles, taking several months or even years, enduring harsh conditions, prostrating on sand, stones, and ice, persistently heading towards destinations like Lhasa, sacred mountains, or holy lakes; short-distance, circling temples, sacred mountains, or lakes clockwise for several hours to ten days or half a month; and local, performed at the pilgrimage site. During kowtowing, prostrating fully on the ground is an act of bodily reverence, continuously chanting Buddhist scriptures is verbal reverence, and maintaining continuous thoughts of Buddha is mental reverence. Kowtowing is aimed at personal spiritual practice in this life and the next, as well as for the salvation of all sentient beings.
