Update: So the SJ Official youtube reached out and commented here explaining how I had gotten some information wrong. This was my own fault. We did not know that at the time on the website we could get the extra pass for a cheaper fee online then the day of the con. I am happy that they reached out to me and informed me about this so now I know for next year. I didn't get the newsletter since it was under my Friends email. Which i have now corrected.
If you decide to go again next year (I understand if you don't) but if you do the best thing to do is get the passes online way in advance. It's stupid cheap mind you I'm still baffled knowing it used to be 20$ for the whole 3 days.
@@regrettedbear2611 The last time it was $20 was when we were starting up all the way back in 2008 pulling in a couple thousand and taking place in the basement of an Auditorium. We are take place for over a decade bringing in 20k people while taking over half of a convention center. It is not feasible anymore to stay at that pricing anymore.
@@sanjapananime what no no no silly I know when I say I'm baffled by it it's more of getting to grow old with my favorite convention and knowing that y'all now have that many people. I adore it and next year will actually be my 8th consecutive year in a row by no means am I saying it's too much. Plus y'all have those prices still just online And earlier which I have no problem with either. I hope this cleared things up I'm really not saying it's too much or anything more people means more things to clean, pick up, more space being occupied etc I know it's gonna cost more and if I ever had a problem (I won't) I'd just stop going I wouldn't complain about it. I absolutely adore San Japan it helps me escape from the rest of the world and several times it has kept me going.
Your talking about the mom and kid just reminds me of what happened at my freaking yardsale. So I had a bin of 25 cent or best offee toys and things as well as a bin of stuffed animals for 25 cents. This lady comes with like 4 or 5 kids (2 weren't hers) and they're digging around playing having fun being cute, but... This ladys kids each picked a stuffed animal and she paid for only like one without bargining it down. The kids were shoving toys and stuff into a bag that contained a hanging board she swiped from me as well. I thought at first she returned most of it, but considering three once matched bratz shoes were now unmatched I doubt it. Just thanks lady good morals you're teaching your kids.
I think what bugs me the most is I would have bargained with her. I freaking LOVE kids and seeing things like my old stuffed animals going somewhere they'd be loved and played with. Instead she and her kids steal a bunch of inexpensive items they didn't need. Just... Thanks lady. Who steals from a freaking yardsale?
I work at a resale store where everything is very inexpensive, we get people thieving or trying to re-tag items all the time to get a lower price. I shop there too at times, and even had a lady steal a shelf I was buying with my mother, paying less and picking it up because she was in and out of checkout faster than us, she knew she could get it before we got there. Very upsetting, but these people are literally everywhere... x_X
@@ravenwinter6984 I wish I could say that's surprising, but knowing how some people are with savings (eyeing you Black Friday) it's not. Sheesh some people are just jerks.
These videos are so amazing and educational. Though I don't do anything like this, I think it's awesome that you put this out here for everyone and make sure that people are informed and able to benefit from your knowledge and experiences. You're always so honest and clear in your videos, whatever it is you're talking about, and I just love that. You're one of my favorite youtubers to listen to, and I love watching you do art while you speak. :) Thank you for the great video and always looking out for others in your field, and people in general. :D

I genuinely love sticker paper stickers, I think if you did do vinyl I would still love to see the sticker paper one's there. Like I think I've bought from you once or twice but I love em sorry I'm commenting so much I'm watching and commenting 😅

To give an update on the $80 badge fee onsite.
This was posted on the website at the Artist Alley Info Page at www.san-japan.org/registration/artist-alley/ (which is still up for 2019) and in 2 emails sent out to all artists warning that it would be badge tier pricing of $55, $65 and $80 in 2019 so it was recommended to pre-register early for them when possible. It is listed in the information section and in the detailed FAQ.
It even states it in the contract itself:
Rates for Artist Alley will be $185 for a full 6′ table and will include ONE (1) Artist Alley convention badge. The Artist Alley badge will have the same access as an attendee. Individual Artists & Groups are limited to one full table. Artists who wish to share tables should register as a group. Registration for an Artist Alley table does include one membership in the convention or admission to it. Any additional badge Artist Alley badge will be $55 (Up to June 1st, 2019) to $65 (June 2nd to July 10th, 2019) per badge (available up until July 10th, 2019, with a rate of $80 afterward) with a maximum purchase of up to 3 additional Artist badges.
This was not hidden/unknown information to artists. We greatly implore to always check the website in thorough detail beforehand on the next time you apply to San Japan. There was no 'gotcha' on that. The person in charge of last year Artist Alley should have charge $75 to artists onsite, not the $60 pre-reg rate, and was terminated after the 2018 convention. The person in charge in 2019 was enforcing the contract rules on that part.

Im kinda curious, does anyone know; is there a way to kinda veto/submit a claim (through companies like square) to stop people calling their bank and pulling that fraud/theft stuff?
(Ie: you have a physical receipt written out each item and an additional signature and id check; possibly the card and bank number too?)
well the problem is if they dont get a receipt then its just gone from what I know. Cause they can choose to get one or not.
Some artists will take pictures of the person holding what they bought. It’s good for social media because you can show people enjoying your thing but it doubles as a way to prove someone bought something
Wait... you don’t usually sign things? Whenever I go to conventions with my father we always ask the artist to sign the work. I thought that getting the artists work signed was just a part of going to the artists alley. You really do learn something every day.
I have no problem with signing things but I do know some people dont want it signed they just want the art

This may sound weird but if you want, I could print and cut your stickers for ya.
This isn't a business deal or anything, I just thought I'd mention it since I can make stickers for pretty damn cheap over here.
It's not vinyl but it's pretty good quality and I've printed and sold my own stickers with that paper.
I can get it for really cheap here and still have at least 70 big sheets left from my last con.
Printing is literally free and it's such a good big printer!
(I swear it's amazing, I print my A3 prints with it as well)
Honestly depending on shipping costs I can literally make 100 stickers and only spend $15 for the paper (If that's even needed since I still have so much left)
The most shipping would cost is $17 from the netherlands to US
(Tho I doubt it'll need to be that much so it'll probably be more like $10 or something)

BlueTashi awwww thank you so much man for he offer but it’s no big deal for me to do it myself. Since it’s already really cheap how I do it. My sticker cutter Matt just broke on the last day.
Also if there's any way to try and lightly watermark a corner or something regardless if they don't want your signature it is something you created.
