Eyes Wide Shut is a great film which makes you question things, I would love to know what you guys think the movie is about! And I feel the same way about Furiosa and I think it's a great example of how a director we think we know can also make "subpar" movies, out of what we would expect of them. Maybe we undervalue the contributions of other creatives on these films, or maybe the creative side gets interference from the money branch... or both, along many other things. In any case, the Mad Max videogame rocks! Keep going Max and Paul!
(Possible Mandela effect): Mostly directed by Kubrick. According to my memory from media promotion and interviews at the time (I was 21 then, and I'll fully admit that Warner Bros could have lied about the facts to increased sales and exposure), Kubrick supposedly died before wrap. They then brought Spielberg in to finish some shots and finish editing the film. But contradictory stories from IMDB, Film Rant, and Wikipedia make this difficult to confirm either way. Nicole Kidman reportedly confirmed that Kubrick finished shooting and editing the movie; but Film rant and IMDB both have contradictory accounts of when Kubrick's death occurred, so I don't even know who to believe. Internet in 2025 🙄 But this much is certain: Incidentally, everyone at the gathering sex party scene actually work in government and entertainment, so they were actually just playing themselves, and Kubrick was apparently happy with everyone's performance; which dovetails nicely with the film holding the record for the longest continuous single rolling shot, and beat Good Fellas for the title.
@@MaxForrest I'm getting conflicting stories from the internet. Film rant and Wiki say he died 6 days after he showed the final print to Warner Bros. My recollection (and it may be the Mandela effect), but I remember when this film released, the marketing specifically and clearly stated that Kubrick had died before wrap, and that Spielberg jumped at the chance to work on and help finish a Kubrick movie. I remember interviews and appearances on late night TV where Spielberg actually gave interviews about what happened. Now, I'll grant that WB likely just stretched the truth to be able to market the film with Kubrick AND Spielberg's names attached to increase sales... Will do some more digging and see if there are any more contradictory versions of events, and edit my original post accordingly.
I don't know exactly what it is but I really disliked eyes wide shut. I think maybe the end soured it for me. The performance between Nicole and Tom and how tom seemed to be able to laugh off the whole experience felt really incongruent. Every scene with them two felt kind of ridiculous honestly. Maybe I'm missing something but I didn't vibe with it for the most part.
Saying "Furiosa" & "fury road" over & over felt like a tongue twister lol

Did they bring in Spielberg? That's cool.
@@MaxForrest Yeh if memory serves. Can I post a link or I can just confirm from IMDB or the wiki?

Point of order: it's not a castle, it's a palace.

I just can't buy AJT as an action heroine. She looks too much like an ethereal woodland sprite.

I disagree. But I think we can both agree on Nicole Kidmans hotness though.
