- The conclusion to epsiode two, The Lodestone of Synope, from 12th of January 1983. With Paul "Rosie" Greenwood as the hero of chromakey Captain Zep. With Ben Ellison as Jason Brown and Harriet Keevil as Professor Spiro. I think I have a clip of Prof Spiro wearing the famous 'spiro' costume, years before Madonna did!
Dear Mum,
Thanks for letting me have a Captain Zep birthday party when I was 6 in 1983. I realise only now how you were trying to tell me all along that it was social suicide, and why no one else came in character because they must have 'misread the invites' (where I insisted everyone came as a character). I maintain that I was resplendent in a yellow jump suit.
Love
Your son/Ex- Captain Zep fan
+Dougal Fergusson Was that the day you became an 'ex' Captain Zep fan? :D
Awesome.
Thanks for posting, loved this show when I was younger, still have fond memories of it I always loved the mix of models live action and animation, always thought the space cadets thing at the end was a bit quirky too
Happy Memories, the 80's really were "out there". I think professor spiro may have been my first crush.
so love this was obsessed with this as a kid
I want to watch everything everywhere worldwide that’s just like this I’m obsessed with cheesiness and being a 70’s / 80’s child I’m even more in love with this style of cheese, someone make me a list NOW !!😄
@kmonib
Dude you rule! I too remember this show, what always stuck in my mind was the unusual art style which I liked and the theme tune. Another old one I've never seen again was StarStormers about some kids who use a hollowed out asteroid as a spacecraft to go find their missing parents....
I think I'll send in for my Solved badge....
The theme tune - "Captain Zep" by The Spacewalkers - is available for download on itunes.
You weren't in this band were you?
@@douglasfreeman3229 Naturally! (still am)
Awesome upload... I remember this old series.
Wow. I remember the static drawn aliens, but I'd suppressed the memory of the bizarre, bordering-upon-clown outfits and of the captive children being forced to solve the crime... until now. It was right up there with 3-2-1 in that the puzzles were more endurance than fun.
even as a kid i thought this looked awful - why have animation when you can have still images?
cheaper!
Captain Zep, Captain Zep, super space defective
Looks like the ship cockpit was built using bits from The Adventure Game.
Great clip. I remember seeing this as a kid and thinking "christ, what a cheap-skate production".
@neonsuntan Yes Professor Spira is in this clip! The female with the spiral motif top!
I used to watch this, BBC 1 on a Thursday night back in the early 80s wasn't it?
Yes, about 1983-1984.
@@80sandretrogubbins25 Yep, I'm not sure if it was him but the presenter bore more than a passing resemblance to the guy who played Dr Bashir in Star Trek Deep Space 9.
@Nik00nak Dick Spanner is a classic! Love that quirky intro music.
There was no closing date mentioned in the continuity at the end. Do you think I can still get my entry in? :P
Nearly 40 years later? You're avin' a larf mate!
Hell-ooooo and wel-come.
@ascolti I agree but what confused me was why all the audience had to have their hair gelled back?
Unfortunately, this is the only clip I have, it's the only clip on UA-cam!!
wow, where the hell did the poster get this from?
i thought i was the only person on earth to remember this!
any more?
*&^%$$$£^ James bond, Captain Zep rules. Super space detective. We will never forget.
Full episode please
@ffcukTFi Wow! Brilliant information. Sorry but this is the only clip I have.
Wasn't there a woman in this called Professor Spira?
wondering, did they even get paid?
Anymore CAPTAIN ZEP clips?
@lightcache I have plenty of weird and wonderful bits from my teenage years with a Betamax!
Call that a uniform?
To me the whole costume/sci fi thing was a very thin veneer covering a bunch of failed Blue Peter auditionees. I liked the tune, though
big brenda and wilmots trousers.
The programme itself was crap loved the theme music though.
Bad acting and answers on a SAE...A happier time 😊
@35HARROW The future = Slick hair!
I remember this program because it was so bad....
god it was naff even then
I'm afraid I couldn't stand this and watching this now years later I still think it's crap!
And i thought the old star trek looked cheap atleast they didnt talk to flat pictures and used guys in costumes for aliens.
This was a truly awful program. Me and my brother used to call it 'craptain' zep. Hilarious we were
At the time I hated this programme, now I can see why, it's rubbish!
