The start of our Route 66 road trip, a quick look around Chicago before heading off down the Mother Road- Route 66 Part 2 ua-cam.com/video/ukCICoQx6Y4/v-deo.html
I'm a year late seeing this series, you guys are amazing . Sending you love and safe keepings from the United States. Thank you for coming here and getting an adventure .❤
We have been to the start of Route 66 many, many times, living so close to Chicago. We have been to the end of it. In between...well, we've got work to do. ;) We may need to binge watch this! (And start planning a Route 66 baseball trip.) Hitting the red button. Glad to follow fellow wayfaring storytellers!
Thanks for following. We were hoping to go back and do it again or at least parts of it in more detail. Looks like it will have to be next year. What was amazing about the trip were the people we net and other travellers. Thanks again.
Had to laugh at the comment about how straight the road is; my visits to Wales always begin with marveling (and adjusting to) how curvy and narrow Welsh roads are ;D I have yet to travel much of Route 66; thank you for inspiring me to get out there and see it x
Oh my! You've been at the entrance-side of the Joliet prison! When we were there to see it (even took our sunglases, but forgot about the fedoras...), we could only see it from the roadside, as upfront where you guys were standing everything was closed off by police. And a film team!!
I saw that you videotaped the Joliet Route 66 Experience Hub. Do you know that there are 70 of those wayside markers scattered across the state of Illinois?
@@flydriveexplore You're very welcome. If you want to know where all of them are, start by checking out this video: ua-cam.com/video/EUSREzJFQ2c/v-deo.html
Wow! That’s awesome! You guys did quite a bit in one day!! Fantastic video! Our first day, we only made it to Pontiac. It took us forever to get out of Chicago. Do you all use google maps for the entire Route 66 travel?
Thanks, it was a long day. We left on a Sunday so the road out of Chicago was very quiet, we also left quite early. We used Google maps around the cities with added waypoints to make sure we followed Route 66.
That’s cool! I didn’t know you could make added points on google maps. We used google maps pretty much through Illinois and it kept trying to throw us on the I interstate. We eventually forked up $40 for the Route 66 Navigation app. It’s been very great about keeping us on Route. It has its flaws but it’s pretty good.
@@TeamThrasher You can add up to 10 stops I think. It's easier to do on the computer then send them to your phone. Does take some time but can be useful around the busier towns and cities.
Hi Doc! I like your reaction - I fully agree - and I am keen to do "66" as well ... I consider myself as a biker by my heart, have nice chopper yamaha dragstar 1100, very nice piece. Can we have a chat about doing "66"?? Let´s organize a Team of 10-15 friends and let´s go .. ;-)
Hi, the EZ guide did help but you need to get it in advance, it can take some getting used to, there is a lot in it. We also had a daily plan on a sheet of A4, we arranged each day by time and not by miles. Some day we did a bit too much but overall it was a good first attempt.
@@markmccoll4107 Th hotels we found by looking online, the actual towns and attractions to stop at we found by watching other UA-camrs. Feel free to contact us through our About Page if you want more info.
Hi, this was mid-June to July 2019. We spent just over 3 weeks doing the trip but we did stay in a couple of places for a few days. It was about 14 days on the road itself.
@@Sarah-331 Fuel was really cheap compared to what we pay. I think we spent 20 to 30 dollars a day. The motels outside of the city were Travelodge prices although we did pay for a few nice ones on the way. The main thing in the last couple of years is the poor exchange rate.

Live your dynamic as a couple. My wife and I seem to be very similar to you both and really enjoying your videos.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed and can relate to the dynamics (but you should see some of the outtakes!!!)
Great stuff really enjoyed it.We will also stay at Springfield.looking forward to your next video.
Thanks, I think Springfield is about far enough for the first day.
You made it very entertaining😂❤️
It's a great trip. We would like to do it again.
Awesome Sir/Maam
Thank you

First time but hopefully not our last.

You should do it when you can, it's a great trip. Definitely not as curvy as some of our local roads!
I driven parts of Route 66 here and there, but missed Chicago to Springfield so am being enlightened.
There was a lot to see on this stretch, next time we would have taken some extra time
.looking forward to your next video
Thanks

It was good to see it, as you can see in the video it was really quiet when we were there but it was quite early on a Sunday.
I would love to do this drive someday! As well as visit Springfield - we get to Chicago often, but haven't been to Springfield yet!
It's a great road trip and there's so much to see. We really hope to do it again.

We came across a few along our route but didn't realise there were 70 across the state, thanks for sharing.

Hi, there's an email link on our ABOUT page on UA-cam (view email address) or look up Fly Drive Explore on Facebook 👍
did you book route 66 through a travel agent or do it yourself
Hi, we planned and booked it ourselves.

Hi , I would love to do this , it’s great you did this video and really helps , can I ask what time of year did you go and how long for . Sarah

Thank you for the reply was it really expensive with fuel and motel, looking into going in a few years , saving up and early planning .

3 times you asked her. Lol. You are also driven on the RIGHT side of the road . Haha.
