    In this video we talk about how lighting on set, art assets and stuff like wind or smoke can come a long way to make your scene on unreal engine and your led wall more believable.
    Much like VFX, virtual sets and virtual production need a bit of "real" to sell the fake, and even if the led volume helps a lot, you still need lighting fictures, art and other stuff around your actors so that everything look like they belong

      Hello and thank you ! Like we said we are not going back to the plateau virtuel for a while, probably not before January, but when we do we could definitely do an in depth video on tracking ! Unreal and programming is a bit outside of our domain of expertise so we would need help to make a good one. We will ask our friends for help for sure, but no promises yet until we discussed it with them :)

    I'm doin it (lol) ...What camera tracking system do you guys use? Was thinkin about going the Antilatency route for tracking into Unreal - keeping everything simple in Unreal for now... btw Great recommendations congrats!

    • @MakerSchoolTV
      @MakerSchoolTV  3 роки тому

      At the time we used a simple HTC vice +vive tracker + Steam VR set up. Worked great but a few hiccup made us loose a bit of time. Especially with a lot of people on set.
      I know the Plateau Virtuel upgraded since then, but I can't recall the name of the tracking system they chose. I'll have to ask next time I see them

      @@MakerSchoolTV Thanks for responding - I just ordered the AntiLatency camera tracking kit -it is a little expensive for what it is about $900 but is turn key and looks really well made - anyone who is looking to upgrade should def check it out - I chose it because its very easy to set up ; you don't have to spend hours trying to get it position synced and working with your platform
      Mo-sys, which is another pro level option is a very similar technology in every way but I don't know their price for a similar package...

    How can you start working on those new productions?

    • @MakerSchoolTV
      @MakerSchoolTV  3 роки тому

      The same way you work on any other production, although if you educate yourself on the Unreal Engine their is a lot of opportunities as we lack people with that knowledge in the film industry.
      Do you mean working as a director or as something else ?

    Thank you so much for sharing these tips.
    One thing i find about most consumer VR products (eg HTC Vive or Occulus) is that when tracking a real life object or actor to a virtual scene, the object or actor's feet do not stick on the ground. The always float a few centimeters here and there. What is the workaround for this?

    • @MakerSchoolTV
      @MakerSchoolTV  3 роки тому +1

      You're welcome !
      Unfortunately I'm not sure we are the best people to answer your question.
      We don't know much about that since we didn't work with green screens for these examples, but rather used led walls, which means we had to use some real life art assets around the actors when we shot their feet.
      Maybe you juste need to factor a bit of extra stuff like realistic shadows and/or reflection in the virtual scene at the feet of your actors ? Also have some virtual assets in the foreground that appear in front of the characters, and make sure the actor is walking on a green surface that match with the virtual scene : I imagine if the green screen is flat, it wouldn't look good to key the character walking on a ground that is covered in a lot of small rocks of different sizes as the feet of the actor would interact with the shape of the ground.

    a DIY setup guide would be awesome

    • @MakerSchoolTV
      @MakerSchoolTV  3 роки тому +1

      Do you mean a DIY for virtual production ? For LED walls I'm afraid it's a bit expensive for a DIY of any kind... But setting up your camera to be tracked by unreal and being able to frame in your virtual scene with your physical camera seems achievable without too much gear expensive gear (just a genlock capable camera and and HTC vive). A video like that would take a long time to research and set up though, but would you be interested in that to begin with ?

    • @earthlevel4569
      @earthlevel4569 3 роки тому

      @@MakerSchoolTV I understand the Video Wall/Volume would be too complicated, but I hear about a lot of people using projectors or 84" tvs outside of windows. I thought that a DIY setup for that style of shooting could be an interesting use. Thanks for getting back to me.

    • @MakerSchoolTV
      @MakerSchoolTV  3 роки тому

      Something with a tv, projector or even small green screen should be possible for us ! But you will have to be patient, their would be a lot of work and research before we are able to shoot the video

    Okay I am sold. How much is the screen?

    • @MakerSchoolTV
      @MakerSchoolTV  3 роки тому

      The whole set up is worth way too much 😅 probably in the millions, so the screens should be rented. Or you can go to a set that has already everything set up like our partner, the "Plateau Virtuel" in Paris. You can also use green screen instead of the led screens, but you won't have the dynamic lighting part anymore which is a lot less interesting

    The examples in the videos look fake. It does not look like real life. The lighting and background look like screenlight. Maybe its the lack of atmospheric effects that filming a 2D screen does not have. Also in real life you see slight movement in grass, leaves, tress, clouds and all of their shadows. Furthermore the brightness of everthing outside gradually changes when a small or large cloud blocks the sun. We see with 2 eyes and I don't think a screen can project 2 pictures at once. 😅 Still looks fake like "realistic" Ai pictures.
