Back then it was okay because people understood these were just fictional characters and not only that, the characters usually returned in future episodes. People always like to say that as times go by, what is considered taboo will no longer be taboo. However, people usually forget that the reverse is also true - as times go by, some things that used to be generally accepted by society will become taboo. This is a good example.

Back then it was okay because people understood these were just fictional characters and not only that, the characters usually returned in future episodes. People always like to say that as times go by, what is considered taboo will no longer be taboo. However, people usually forget that the reverse is also true - as times go by, some things that used to be generally accepted by society will become taboo. This is a good example.
What astonishes me the most is that if you even have the slightest gun reference in a kid show now people freak out but kids shows get some _really dirty_ sexual jokes and everyone just says "Different strokes for different folks".
