  • The restoration of the Elwha River in Washington state, starting with the largest dam removal in U.S. history about a decade ago, has revitalized the river’s ecosystem, from salmon coming back in droves, to indigenous plant species thriving, to sediment deposits at the river’s mouth slowly undoing a century of shoreline erosion.
