That was super informative and short and sweet with great video demonstrations. I've been sailing 30 yrs but on 24 footers and shorter that I could often sail in and out of the dock. My new-to-me 33 footer with diesel engine hasn't required me to dock more than twice due to normally being on moorings. Wind and current cooperated and I did OK, but these tips will be easy to remember. Thank you. -Jim

When I took my first sailing class we called this the circle drill. My very first time out in my new sailboat I was in a situation where I needed to do this immediately to avoid a collision. So learn this maneuver, practice it because you never know when it will save you and your boat. It saved me.

Situations like that is exactly why we teach it 👏. Glad to hear you were able to navigate that safely.

@@TSailingAcademy I have been sailing safely for over 35 years now from the gulf ofMexico to the gulf of Akaska thanks to tge foundation I got from sailing school and Coast Guard courses. There's ALWAYS something to learn. I have always been a singlehand sailor.

Another tip, never let go of the wheel when steering in reverse. The rudder will snap over in an instant.

Call that a “ tight fairway “ ! You should try the ones over here on the other side of the pond.

this is awesome stuff thanks. is prop walk more pronounced with fin keels? i assume that full keels act as hydro blocks where turning about

Generally, yes. But we have a 50’ full keel that has very pronounced prop walk.
