The plaque needs to read "He wasn't even supposed to be here today."
YES!!!
It takes on a whole new meaning when you consider him surviving his heart attack
Or "right where I'm supposed to be."
Do you not think a plaque should read "I assure you we're open"
No plaque. Just a statue of him, dead, sitting on the toilet in the bathroom.
that faded Clerks 2 poster in the window
Kevin Smith is how everyone in Hollywood should act. Grateful for what he has accomplished as the journey it took to get their.
He would be insufferable if not for the failures of Chasing Amy, Mall Rats and several I won't mention. Fuck Kevin Smith. Fuck him in his stupid ass.
There's being grateful, then there's being up your own ass. Kevin is up his own ass

I was 21 when Clerks came out. Working in a grocery store & going to college. The magic of the film for me was that it captured all of the entertaining, weird nuances of working in retail at a job like a clerk. It was universal to anyone who had ever worked with the public, especially at night(like after the 'normal' folks go to bed). I saw it and was talking about it with my co-workers, just praising it up & down. So a bunch of us went to see it together. To have a group of people just have a 'Holy Shit!' moment together was great. Our girlfriends who worked at other stores or in the mall all had 'Clerks' stories. It became a rite of passage amongst our company, "Hey, have you seen that movie 'Clerks'? You HAVE to!" We always said that if you didn't identify with the clerks then you were one of the annoying customers. I'm glad that Kevin Smith ended up being such a successful director because he was one of US.
My favorite line is when Randell says "This job would be great if it wasn't for the customers"
That's my mantra.
Because its so fucking true. More than half of customers are cock smokers
Lol Randell: “we have something in common...we both eat Chinese” and “are you still going out with that Asian drum major!” He’s a design major lol
Oooooh navy seals!
HA thats what I say being a busser at a restaurant .......................
When I was in the Navy, the ship I was stationed on was home ported 1 mile down the road from this. Most of us would make trips down to the store just to say we've been there.
If I will ever go to NJ this will be the first place I'll visit :)
Earl?
I went in the late 90s. It was surreal. I bought a Gatorade and a pack of cigarettes.
Damn, nice to hear a celebrity talk positively about a regular job for once! Some act like they rather blow their brains out.
Like Joe Rogan, he can't grasp that some people are happy to work in a office or wearhouse.
Seinfeld said his favorite job was making boxes at a factory. He said he still thinks about it because it was peaceful. You don't hear many talk like that.
Depends on the job. I've had a few where I'd rather jump into lava than work at again. My first job however was ok.
@@richhard2723 I worked with somebody that truly believed nobody ever likes their job. Some people are going to be miserable bastards no matter what.

NONG NONG NONGA NONGA NONG NONG!!!
Kevin’s loving the attention I think he’s in his prime doing all this media
He's enjoying snootchie rebootchie time for sude, but I honestly don't think he cares a whole lot if anyone pays attention. He often describes himself as verbose. He just likes to talk. I love him for it, too, I would happily listen all day.
That and UA-cam's an easily accessible platform to promote his work and a thousand times cheaper than buying ad space and paying for promos.
I mean, the dude worked hard. 25 years of long work and he made it happen.
@@devodavis6454 interesting that he played a "silent" guy. I think he wanted to be in the movie but not make it be about him to the actors.

As someone who's been working in retail for 4 years now, I can honestly say there's no other film out there I relate to more than Clerks - it basically sums up precisely how most of my 20s has felt so far. Although like anyone else stuck in the depths of a minimum wage, dead end job, the comfort the film provides on an individual level is that you're not the first nor the last human being to experience the living Hell of dealing with the general public at their so very entitled worst. And the real kicker? You're never even supposed to be there that day!
Waiting is also another good realistic example.
I can relate I worked at a gas station for a couple months but the real characters would come in during the night.
@@creepycrawler2862 In Dublin it's like that all the time...believe me! How dare people spend their hard earned money on things they need, and actually force us to do our jobs! God help us!

Clerks is a documentary on my life and many other clerks. My friends were dumb founded by my stories being almost exactly like this movie.
"Salsa shark...Man goes into cage, cage goes into salsa. Shark's in the salsa. Our shark."
I was stationed a few blocks down the road from this store when I was in the Navy. There used to be a bar on the side of it called the "Depot" if my memory serves me correctly?!? It blew my mind the first time I went there. Clerks is one of my all-time favs.
Kevin Smith lost so much weight man! guess it's just normal man on batman now... :)
Lester Burnham "I'm looking for the least amount of responsibility".

Unproven.
Imagine living across from Quick Stop and waking up every morning to one of the best movie sets ever!
Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes are strangely two of my hero's. I have so many lofty goals that don't feel impossible because of amazing stories like theirs. I'm sure that's true for anyone that comes from "that side of the tracks".
Working at a convenience store IN JERSEY, this movie hits the nail on the head.
I love Kevin Smith, looks super healthy these days. Good for him.
I love Kevin so much. Criticize his art all u want but he has positively impacted the world. This movie and man has inspired a lot of people to be artists
Still curious to know what that person yelled at them for Kevin Smith to react like that lol
I’ve seen clerks almost 50 times, at a guess, and when he said it was in black and white, I was like “oh yeah”.
I was a manager of a music/video store when it came out. Me and a hand full of employees where friends, we all hung out everyday. This movie was ours! So glad it became a cult classic. Seeing it pop up throughout my life keeps me feeling young.
I worked at a music/video store also at the same time. Clerks, and Empire Records became mandatory viewing for our employees! Lol, not really but we highly suggested them.
I remember this movie coming out in my late teens and just loving the hell out of it, now its still great to see this movie keep its legs and continue on for all of us..it really is a gift.
You're not allowed to rent videos here anymore.
YEAH!!!
He should just buy that place. Never understood why he hasn't.
Not for sale, he's said if the opportunity presented itself he would
@@JBryc3 I get the feeling it'll left to them in the owners' wills.

Right! The video store's already gone 😭 we need to save the quick stop
Don't hurt yourself, buddy. I'll go to Big Choice Video instead.
Randal is the real hero here...
he's... A BERZERKER!
The reason Randall got all the best dialogue is because Kevin wrote that part for himself. When he realized he couldn't handle the schedule he described here and memorize his lines too, he hired Jeff Anderson. He did a great job as Randall, though, so you aren't wrong.
You're not allowed to rent here any more.....
YEAH !!!!!
Jeff Anderson owned that part, especially for having no acting experience whatsoever

Love this! But..... $7.91 for 72’s!? Holy! Thank God I live in SD.
Very cool to see the store still open and doing business
Is he trying to make that purple blazer his trademark now?
I love the guy, but someone needs to show him how to dress. The XXXL size hockey jersey and the calf-length board shorts look from when he was fat was pretty bad, but a purple blazer, backwards baseball cap, and T-shirt?
Purple sport coats should be off limits to anyone but the Joker.
It’s been his trademark for a long time. He used to wear that around the time of his heart attack. He now wears it as a reminder after losing a tonne of weight, at least that’s what he says on his podcast
@@williamshaw9047 Maybe he's doing a Richard Grieco thing? It's pretty sweet.
I loved the hockey jersey.
@William Shaw some people are above all that, do shit because it what you want not because some dipshit on UA-cam is judging you, that and other people are trend setters. The majority.... Followers. Baaaaa little sheep.
If my cousin's car didn't get hit the week before, we were gonna drive to NJ for Wrestlemania and stop there and get a pic of the 2 of us up against that wall

When I first saw Clerks I didn’t get it how they knew what kind of cigarettes to give people. Lol I work a gas station I refer to people as “that lady who always buys a crossword scratchoff” or “the blonde who smokes that one brand of cigarette” “the one who always gets the blue ones and has shaggy hair” “the guy that buys 6 cans of cranberry hard lemonade at a time”
Little did the cars passing by know...
I saw reboot last night. A lot of fun.

Pick up some Chewlies gum while you're in there
And start a mob that throws cigarettes at the cancer merchant.
Smith is honestly a legend. It doesn’t matter if you enjoy his work, you cannot knock what he accomplished. He inspired a whole generation of indie filmmakers myself included
I assure you we're still open
Smith these days permanently looks like he just sniffed a particularly gnarly fart he just let off and he's liking his own brew a little too much.
The area definitely changed a bit since my "pilgrimage."
Dude, yea I went in 2005 and I definitely don't remember McMansions across the street
That stoner laugh at the end, love it
Do the interviewer needs to give smith some space haha
I love Kevin Smith. A true original. People with not even a modicum of his talent and success get huge egos almost immediately and he’s seemed to always stay real 3 even decades later. He’s a huge part of my sense of humor.
I don't appreciate this guys Ruse!!!!!!
I could totally see them giving the store to kevin when the owners move on and him running it or updating the store. Also him rebooting the video store. With actual videos.
Hrithmus I can totally see you have no idea how moneys or businesses work.
That being said, dream your stupid dream, little homie.
In 1969, the location of the comic book store was a restaurant. I had my first job there, washing dishes. Right round that time, I started hanging around Leonardo with a guy I met hitchhiking to Asbury Park , Jimmy Kennington. We did some windowpane acid one night and wound up at the Quick stop right around the time the bakery left a BUNCH of doughnuts on the doorstep. Good times.
Pretty sure it wasn't a Quick stop then, maybe a 7/11
holy crap! this place is real?!???! def on by bucket list.
The fact that you didn't know it was real shows me u are not that big of a fan.
Christopher Gibson9mm I like the movie, I think its funny. do I live and breath Jay and silent Bob. no.
@ I happened to be in that area and decided to stop by. The space next door (rts) is empty and the store was way smaller inside than it appears in the film

Nah. That's just the sticky icky.
I've been to the store. Of course I had to get a Gatorade and a snack cake.
They must get so annoyed with fans
Considering they have memorabilia in there commemorating the fact that he made the film in that store....it doesn't seem like they necessarily mind.
They will stay in business forever for being the Kevin Smith holy grounds

Have seen clerks 2 countless times along with most of Kevin's movies, except for clerks. Finally found it at goodwill for $.99 as one of employees was putting it on the shelf. She looked at me and said that was one of the dumbest movies ever. Watched it now considered it a master piece.

Hours later, Caitlin comes out of the bathroom: (panting heavily)
“Ohhh Dante, you were great. How did you get out here so fast?”
I forgot all about that dude.
Caitlin is STILL in rehab!
"I don't even have to be here today." So why didn't they use this location in the Reboot? They used somewhere else.
$$
Because it's an active business, and a movie shoot would have disrupted that.
Kevin knows how to make a movie that doesn't cost a billion to film.
Closing the store would have been possible, if expensive, and he also might not have wanted to disrupt people that need their neighborhood bodega open.
According to Kevin it would have cost 25 grand to go to Jersey to do those scenes.
I visited a friend in a college and they regretted it ever since.
I can’t believe how much money is being throw into adverts for this movie. It’s awesome!
8:12 whats the song name?
They need to place a sculpture there of J and Silent Bob
Kevin Smith is the only person who has reverence for his retail job.
No
If Kevin Smith from 20 years ago traveled in time to today, I like to think he'd kick his own ass for become such a shill these days.
When you grow up, son, you'll understand that sometimes "selling out" isn't so bad when you gotta pay the bills or feed your family. We should all be glad him and Jay are still alive.
Wait there’s an apartment in between the Quick Stop and Video store?.... can I put in an application?
