Everclear was and is one of my favorite bands but specifically when I was a teenager when this was brand new. Thinking about their music actually makes me realize how underrated they are. They had so many good songs and at least two CD’s that you could play start to finish and you instantly want to hear it again. I remember having this CD on a road trip from Long Island to Maine as a teen and it’s just so good. So many amazing hits. Definitely one of the more talented bands of the 90’s alternative rock scene.
I agree entirely. I was still reeling from Kurts death as a teen when Santa Monica showed up on 120 Minutes. Instantly I knew I'd finally found a band that, while definitely a bit more poppy, at least seemed to be carrying on the guitar-driven alternative rock I loved. The fact that their lyrics are simply correct philosophy for any adolescent keeps me coming back as I head for my mid-40s.
Got nothing but mad love for these guys. True story. They came to camp Arifjan in Kuwait. I got lucky I was between missions. Art caught what we call the Kuwaiti crud and lost his voice like three songs in. Still tried to give a 90 minute plus show and we all sang for him. It was a blast.

A top hit in the 50s isn't really similar to a hit in 1997. 1 black people couldn't be on the billboard top 40 only RandB, which severly limited the people applicable for having a big hit. 2 there's a whole lot more musicians around in 1997
