Just wanted to give a bit of clarification: the ammo mods are elemental damage added to the ammo, and it is with every shot. If you have the damage numbers settings on, it'll show damage numbers with the elemental damage added. It's just the ammo mod special effects doesn't activate with every shot, as it goes by chance to activate. Using the Elemental Pop Perk has augments that will increase how often the ammo mod effects will activate and to use only that ammo elemental effect. The elite enemies do have elemental weaknesses.
In terms of satisfying, Dead wire with Lightning Strike is in a class of its own. Watching a Mangler getting struck by lightning never gets old.
