In case anyone didn't know, Dangelico bought Supro a couple years ago. I think both product lines are showing a lot of promise. They also acquired Pigtronix. Between them and Harmony/Teisco I think we've got some cool alternatives on the market to the few brands that get all of the attention before moving into the boutique territory.
The older headstock is a dead-on reproduction of John D'Angelico's Excel and New Yorker design from the 40's and 50's. I love the look of that old headstock, but it does make my EXL-1 to dive a bit. This new headstock is a nice change. It seems like an homage to the original late 30's / early 40's D'Angelico Style A.
The guitar looks and sounds great and I also like the song a lot. Had to chuckle when you used the middle position for the rhythm and the bridge for the lead after you said the neck was where you lived. This is a more stripped down production than the recent songs you uploaded from Florida and I dig the simplicity of it. I've got to try a D'Angelico one of these days but I'm trying to avoid having another gas attack since I've already got a Gibson ES-225, a Vox Bobcat V90 and an Aria jazzbox and the last thing I need is another semi-hollow or hollow body electric. Best wishes on your move to LA.
Lovely combination of palm muting and clear notes, great sound from this guitar. When I grow up and get myself a semi-hollow, I'll definitely check this one out ;-)
Sean, a few years back you inspired me to get that turquoise Premier Mini DC - I love that guitar ! I'm from NYC area and always had a thing for the art deco style of the original (reminds me of the Chrysler Building) but that new one is pretty sweet too - and I really dig that color...
I like the old headstock, it’s unique. The new one just looks like a Gibson.
Gets rid of the neck dive though which is a major upgrade - old headstock was waaaay too heavy
@@hereasafanofallsorts5164 The neck dive has been the tripping point to me getting a Mini DC. Although I prefer the old F holes to these, if the Tour series eliminates the neck dive, I might just pick one up.
That's a beautiful colour! I'm probably in the minority but I actually like the original D'Angelico headstock style, the only thing I didn't like about it was the truss-rod cover, something that they unfortunately carried over into this new design,, otherwise both headstock designs are nice!
Gorgeous headstock. Love mine on my Bob Weir deluxe. Absolute work of art.
That was absolutely awesome.
My favorite S.D. song
What a great groove
OK, the headstock thing. I like the old one and I like the new one. On THIS guitar, the new one seems a better fit.
But as always, what is a lot more important is how it plays and how it sounds, and this one is a beauty to hear. So Sean, how does it FEEL playing it? How does it play? As smooth as you are able to make it look and sound?! I do like the color. Very pretty.
I loved the old art deco headstock, I have the 12 string acoustic with the art deco head.❤. I hope they don’t get rid of them, saving for a semi hollow body.😊
Your new D’Angelico sounds great. I guess you missed your guitars. I hope the new neighbors love your music as much as we do😊
Being a fan of the art deco style in general, the old headstock was the main reason I bought a D'Angelico but this new version is growing on me. And those Supro pickups are very clear and articulate. I like it.
Love it. Thanks.
Love the 8 bit head stock deco. Reminds me of 80's gaming.
I'm always kinda surprised that no guitar maker ever colors the inside that's visible through the sound holes-like a Louboutin guitar. Gorgeous, though!
That is one fine looking guitar!
Wow that's a beautiful guitar
I don't have a semi-hollow guitar and always liked the D'angelico, but funnily enough never liked the headstock! This one is definitely on my radar. Nice demo and nice guitar!
man i loved the old art deco. It is cool wouldnt want that guitar without it.
He's made an error here. They created the Tour line to be a lower-end (their lowest) guitar. Part of the cost-cutting includes the different, less ornate headstock. All the others still have the trademark headstock.
Cool vib on that song.. tried to find country of origin on the Sweetwater photos but not showing. Where is it built?
Sweetwater is my favorite Beatle ! If you get a chance go to the GearFest it's awesome. I don't like the funky F holes but I like the headstock
I’ve been around long enough that I remember when you refused to do unboxing videos! 😝. (It’s all good, bro, just busting chops. Still love the channel!)
I checked the link and it's worth mentioning this guitar sells for an extremely reasonable $1500! Have to add that I really like the more understated head stock. Very likely that once I've spent everything I have to spend toward all the things I have to spend money on, when I can veer my attention to another guitar investment...this is a most likely candidate.
It is real as real can be. What is the life like there. One of the fastest ways to get out there is open mic night, that area has a lot of them. Not only that if you are looking for a growth potential maybe you can open a place that has an open mic night so that people can not only learn from you but also when planning a vacation or going out to give it a shot, they do not feel completely alone. It hurts to be alone in a big city with no friends, how are they going to make them, how are you going to make them?
Like I said, all humbucker guitars in your hands sound so warm..... (after your last video, I got a bit of a chuckle out of your attempts to deal with the box that is the size of your living room ((-: ). Also, can you do a lesson on the picking pattern that you used on the song?
It was looking like such a great guitar... and then I saw the cheap crappy new headstock. But hey, they saved a buck building it and convinced many people it's cool.
100% agree. I own a Mini DC (with the old, beautiful headstock) The old headstock was D'Angelico signature..It's a piece of ART. you can recognize it immediatley from afar. And Now - it's just like a regular Epiphone or some ibanez.. Not only that - Imperial tuners are Gone, Block inlays are Gone, the F hole cut is cheap looking, Pickguard is Gone .. Man i would be so angry if they decided to continue changing all their models towards these designs. Now I'll buy another old D'angelico - before it's too late and all their design SUCKS.
Flaw? That's Art Deco son!!!
Love that fat sound from the bridge
I want one one those so bad, but the I was the D'Angelico excel tour DC but I would have to sell my fender American Ultra Stratocaster first in order to get one of these in black 😔
Are D'Angelico only good for bluesy/soulful picking? I never see anyone playing classic rock, or chugging power chords, it's always mellow vibes.
The buckers are basically 59/Jazz, so you can definitely throw down some thrash
Nice song
Does it have neck dive?
Does it come in emeryld?
I personally like the new less blingy D 'Angelico. But now I am thinking one in like a metallic pumpkin with blacked out hardware would be cool.
Cool axe, great color! Is it Maliblue? 🐟
Oh wow!! Hey, that is why George Benson plays them.
Schweet axe. Cool color.
Nice! Looks like a ES335... Uh oh, that also looks like Gibson's "open book" headstock shape. They have that patented and they fiercely defend it! You may have a collectors item there, if/when Gibson makes them change it!! Time will tell... 8) --gary
Safety tip, Sean, do not run or play guitar with scissors. I speak from experience. Sweet guitar and playing also. Thanks for all your vids.
they did a great job aestically with the headstock, and that is a sharp looking gitbox
Love the head stock 😊now I want one !
Never could love that Art Deco thing sitting out there on the end of the neck… this is much better.
It a Epiphone CASIO ! Ol West ! Sean UR need to Sell some of those Guitars *down at NORM;s Rare Guitars store, just to pay UR RENT ! Ol west
Hi this vinod kalabandi
From India Hyderabad
I am big fan and follwer of you, literally i watch everything from your channel thanks for everything
A small request
I have seen many guitars with you if it possible please GIFT me one electric guitar because i can't afford the electric guitar,
You need to correct yourself brother. The Tour line is the lowest-end D'Angelico line - hence the reason for the stripped-down headstock.
Love the new headstock but I hate! the F-holes, wtf?! Why? improving one flaw and adding a new one. please! those f-holes are so ugly and big I probably will drop my meatballs in there.
Oh, this is the inexpensive version.
So poor he can't even afford a knife anymore. 🤣 Nice guitar. I wish you the best in your new place. I still think you moved for a woman.
The biggest flaw I see with D'angelico is their fugly Art Deco styling...
I have an Excel Mini DC . Amazing guitar !!!
But... WHY did they do this new design? Where is their D'Angelico headstock? This just looks so cheap and like any other guitar.. The headstock.. what is this even... But wait.. where are the imperial tuners??? What?? why?? Why there are no block inlays?? What is happening to D'angelico? They made such an awesome and unique guitars, but this design just SUCKS. Im sorry.
Save those boxes, you can rent them out to someone as an apartment in LA
😂
AHAHAHAHAHA
So true
I got some of those boxes. I planned to be buried in one 🤣
