Was at a job, ladies ring/nest door bell went up. Changed out bad transformer but the interior doorbell still wasn’t sounding off. Swapped the wires as in video, worked like a charm.

Thank you for this! Our doorbell didn't work from the day we bought our house. The first time around, my dad got it working but recommended we replace our button. After replacing our button, it worked for awhile, but then broke again. After watching your video, I felt comfortable enough to open up the chime box and realize the fix was a super simple changing of the chime from front to back. I even taught my husband a thing or two after ;) Thank you again for sharing!
I’ve watched sooooo many videos and YOU and ONLY YOU were the first one to actually give an easy fix. This was soooo easy. And I look like a pro without having to go get voltage testers and go through all that. You, my friend, get a gold star. Thank you!!!!!
Thank you so much for this video, I know nothing about repair and you helped me fix my doorbell. I am so excited and proud of myself. Thank you for inspiring me and teaching me.
Ten years later and your fix is still working! Just tried it and had success. I did try removing the pad and the plastic tab but this did not work for the double strike. However, it is ringing on the single note rear bell so she is happy as it wasn't working at all before. Thanks for the great tip!
I just replace my doorbell and the doorbell light came on but no ring. Watched your video and moved wire to 3rd screw (rear) and it now works. Thank you so much. You saved me time and money.
I don't understand how anyone could give this video thumbs down. It 100% fixed my problem. This is one of the most helpful video I have watched in a long time. Thank you!
Our doorbell has been giving us grief for months! After watching this, while in my robe and slippers, I grabbed a step stool, screwdriver and needle nose pliers, fixed the doorbell, AND made a donation in less than in five minutes. Thank you so much!
OMG! Thank you so much. I had someone who wanted to come out and charge me $80 to repair my doorbell for the new house I just bought. I'm a single lady, and don't mind trying to repair things myself, but the videos online were not helpful-I love This Old House, but they were no help. You are awesome! Your video was exactly what I needed to fix my doorbell, it was like you were right here with me, even down to cutting the piece with the sponge. I had to switch wires and use the chime for the back door. I cut the black piece with the sponge attached so I would get the "ding dong" effect. Thank you so much.

Thank you so much. My case: Glue came off the plastic cap on front side. The pin dropped as there was no spring tension. They painted the bell onto the wall so I didn't want to pry it loose. So I switched power to the rear and bent the stopper, making the back side ding-dong. But I will also save the plastic stopper from the front. If the back ever gets stuck, I can re-glue the front. Here's to trying to remember where I put the spring in 10 years when it finally sticks.
Thanks so much! Totally solved my problem by switching the wire to the rear and removing the tab. Was about to buy a whole new chime. This saved me the time and expense!
Thanks so much for this video my doorbell wasn't working and purchased several plug in doorbell units (but thats another story) i came upon your video removed box and bam it wasn't even connected i reconnected the wires and doorbell works thanks
I had a faulty door bell chime and decided to install google nest hello. The front chime kept vibrating and it thought it was something I did wrong with the installation. I was going f’n bananas for hours and was about to give up until I stumbled on this video. I rewired the chime as you instructed and voila problem solved! Thanks a million!
Thank you so much for the info. I fixed like a pro after 8 years. I even forgot that the door bell didn't worked until I had visitors today and I said this is embarrassing. It took me like 3 minutes to fix it. Thanks again

Excellent! I just brought my doorbell back to life. The front plunger was stuck and I simply moved the wire to the rear connection and broke the tab, as you described here. Now the bell is working. Thanks a lot.

Great video. I replaced the bell outside but still only had a buzzing sound. I switched the wires as one plunger is not moving - rang with one chime but lower volume than my Mother In Law recalled. I removed the foam and it's one ding but quite loud. I was afraid to removed the metal piece as I saw someone say the plunger was then not long enough to reach both plates to ding-dong. It's a very old model - an emerson 08203. But thank you so much. I wish I could unstick the other. Can you split the wire to make 2 separate chime connections? My chime burnt out when contractor was working on front door install (but he has no idea what could have caused it; LOL) I wanted to put double chimes side by side to replace old one (increasing DBs in same location); took the wire that was existing that was connected to burnt chime and spliced 2 new wires in (all 3 reds in one wire nut and all 3 blacks in the other). I already had 30amp transformer bc I wanted to this originally but never did. Thanx in advance for the help!
🛎 Our doorbell went out quite a while ago, and we never got around to fixing it yet. Then, all of sudden today, someone came to visit and rang the bell. Shockingly, it worked PERFECTLY! And . . .the bell Presser outside is LIT up again. The ring is music to my ears! 🎶 Is it a Fluke or a Miracle? Grateful, but Confused. 🤔
Thank you so much for making the video! Question: Can you wire two buttons to the same plunger? I have a wire going to the "rear" and a wire going to the "front", but the "front" plunger does not move anymore. Can I just move both wires to the "rear" screw?
Yes you can. All pressing the door bell button does is complete that circuit, so when you press the rear button the circuit is completed and it'll ring and the front bell being open is out of the circuit entirely.

My doorbell would only ding....not ding dong....My ex husband put in a new doorbell for me after the last one broke. After you explained how they work, I looked at mine and he had the wire going to the rear doorbell which I do not have. I should have known he would half ass that like he always did everything else.....Thank you so much. I just switched the wires and saved myself money for another doorbell. And it rings correctly !!!!!

Can you split the wire to make 2 separate chime connections? My chime burnt out when contractor was working on front door install (but he has no idea what could have caused it; LOL)
I wanted to put double chimes side by side to replace old one (increasing DBs in same location); took the wire that was existing that was connected to burnt chime and spliced 2 new wires in (all 3 reds in one wire nut and all 3 blacks in the other).
Is it a Fluke or a Miracle?
Grateful, but Confused. 🤔
I fix the doorbell in 2 min as instructed. So easy and money saving
Wow this saved me from buying a new ringer unit. Many thanks.
Thank you Tomahawk. I subscribed to your channel in hopes that you can guide me through other fixes. Love your style. Thank you Sir.
Thanks for the sub, Annette!
Thanks! Worked like a charm for me!

This is the exact solution to my problem. Thanks for sharing this video.
Awesome! Thank you so much for this simple fix.
You're welcome!
