I love watching your videos and have learned so much! I am a single woman and I do my own reno work around my house. But.... after being married to a man for 30 years who only fixed things on "his time " (which was NEVER if he could help it!), my FAVORITE part of your videos is when you say "... and we're goong to do it... RIGHT NOW." ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I'm thinking of doing this for the exact same reasons you cited. Our house was built in '66, so not quite as old. But it still has little to no insulation, ludicrous electrical shenanigans, and I don't even want to know what's been painted over in the decades before we bought it. Tearing out the drywall seems like the best way to fix all these problems at once. Plus it will let us add soundproofing where needed to make our home a bit more zen.
Imagine being one of the past owners of this house and stumbling across this channel one day! Watching the amazing transformations that you are doing with such care and respect would be heartwarming. Can’t wait to see what comes next!
Hey love your videos!!! I went to a trade school in high school and we built 2 double wide trailers over my junior and senior year of high school.... I've really not done much carpentry or house remodelling but watching your videos really make me want to have a house to fix up if I had the money lol! I've watched pretty much all your videos but I love how you explain things and also how over built you build things if I was to build a house I think I would want your help lol. You definitely deserve a lot of success and can't wait to watch more of your videos!!!
Love watching the work you do on your house You are very talented Our houses here in Australia are built differently but I’m learning heaps by watching you do your thing
Another great video. It's fun and interesting to watch the reno of your house. Look forward to them all the time. All the contractors I've used on projects in my home do not try to save the drywall, even if I asked them to. It doesn't pay for the time it takes. Plus, trying to get drywall out in prime condition is tough. I know from experience.
as a builder and a retired editor of commercials ... I love your creativity with the channel. and also enjoy how much fun you are having creating the vids and have the projects to make the content
I cannot wait til the insulation video. Literally the only thing stopping me from beginning my renovations on my 120+ year old home I just bought. I want to rip the crappy vinyl off and restore the original wood clap. But haven’t found anyone good advice on insulation and weatherproofing. Most say tyvek and new siding or spray foam. Neither are an option for me. I’ve followed previous videos and cannot wait to start. I also need to figure out how to remove the chimney since it’s out of commission and a boiler heats the house. Other than that everything I need is right here on your channel. Thank you and keep up the good work!!!
I know what you mean about cold winters in Mass. I grew up on the Cape in houses that had zero insulation. You could feel the wind coming through. Brrrrr. That’s why I now live in Georgia.
I have hot water baseboard heating in my new home. I have been cautious about disassembling one to see how they go together. I want yo dust the fins then I want to paint the putty color to match the wall colors. Thank you for the video; I am confident now about my project to paint the covers over the fins.
I love watching your videos and explanation of how to do things, great job. Of course, you should ALWAYS wear eye protection. I've had my own bad experience and suffered for almost a year trying to heal an injured eye. Please, please wear some eye protection.
I envy you. I have some compromised exterior walls that I have to rip out but mine are all plaster and lath. The plater dust is everywhere and the scrap weighs A TON.
I also live in Massachusetts, and my city inspectors are pretty strict. I’m wondering why your electrical inspector didn’t make you change that box with the high voltage and cable wires. We have to pull permits for everything, and they don’t let anything get by them.
I have been checking with the local Code Enforcement Officer re Policy & Procedures. The policy here is if the homeowner actually does the work no permit is required. Any time someone is hired to do the work a permit is required. A tiny corner of my lot is in the city limits so city policy trumps county, but both require inspections for hired work.. (I wasn't aware of all the red tape of a small city when I bought the house in 1985. If I had known I doubt I would have purchased that property.) New furnace, a/c, roof, gutters, exterior paint - all hired. No one wants to do interior work.
i've said it before and i'll probably keep saying it, you're so good at making these entertaining. also conveniently whilst you were ripping the ancient drywall down you could see larger sections of the older wallpaper, very interesting to see the history of the room
Great video & work! Nice to see the progress. I was wondering if you had cut the joint between wall & ceiling with a utility knife? Removal seemed like you did...
Hey Mr fixer thanks for your videos I now can and do small projects around my house I wish I know how to send you photo of my fixes 😃 I paint my back door and tile my landing and 4 stairs back entry very proud of myself thanks again love your videos thanks for sharing 💙
Before you just grip it and rip it. Always score the joint where the wall meets the ceiling. Will significantly decrease your chance of damaging the ceiling from having tear out.
Great video! I heard about a guy doing some remodel work and he came across part of an old newspaper. He noticed the date was the same year he was born and upon looking closer he found his birth announcement! What are the odds??? I heard this happened in Portland, OR. I don't know if that's just a made up story that gets passed along or not? But I'd like to believe it's true!
Thanks! It could be worth a trip but a friend of mine's son is starting to get into scraping so I would rather give it to him. I used to do it... it can add up. Thanks for watching!
I'm here because we just bought a 1970's lakehouse that will need a LOT of work. Love the videos! I'm commenting to say, IT IS KILLING ME THAT YOU'RE NOT READING THE LOVE LETTER! 😅😅
I love your channel and look so forward to your videos. I love the progress you are making but at the same time I wonder what will happen when you finally finish? Hopefully you will buy a dump to flip so we can start all over again. ❤️
It’s coming along. Nice work. Curious how far behind we are to real time? I’m headed out this evening to our new property to finish up a building I put up so we can get power run!!
Hi Matt, your doing an awesome job on your house, I've been following you from the start and you've practically refurbished every room, can't wait to see how this one turns out, I'm sure it will be great just like the others.
@@TheFixerHomeRepair we are going to need sound insulation in our basement ceiling, for the TV that is going down there, and I know nothing about that insulation. Thanks
I can’t believe he does all this with just a nail puller. Lol if it was me I’d a brought a sledge hammer, mini sledge hammer, multiple pry bars, and a hammer drill. Maybe even a skidsteer. Haha
Hey Leslie, thank you! When we first moved in, our dining area is where our couch is. We decided to swap them because of our sons play area and our couch layout worked better this newer way. Thanks for the comment and watching the new video! 😃
Why can't I see any drywall screws remaining anywhere? Do they just literally rip out of the studs? I figured they would tear up the studs when removed.
I had the same exact job two months ago I did three rooms just like you're doing now. My question is I'm about to do my kitchen and I think there may be lead paint. How would you suggest taking drywall down in this situation? I don't plan on eating any I'll have a respirator on and I'll be fully covered. Is this something that you'd attempt to do? Or would you call professionals? There's just myself living in this house. Thank you!
Probably not intentional, but interesting juxtaposition of that very soft, almost melancholy background music with the action of ripping apart the walls that were once someone's dream room makeover. And oh man, I really hope you plan to insulate all those walls to sound dampen, so the master bedroom and this one don't have to hear each other ':D
I am renovating the upstairs of my house that I live in with my grandma. We don't even have drywall, it's just this old crappy press board stuff from the 70s and 3/4th of the walls have no insulation at all. I'm trying to explain to my grandma that we can't just put new drywall on top of the old press board and she just keeps arguing with me. She is going on vacation soon and she won't be there to argue lol. I'm taking it all down. In my case it's essentially a fire hazard at this point
That's awesome that your doing this for your grandma and making it safe for her! She will definitely be happy when she comes back from vacation to see it done.😃
A smarter way is to place your trash in bags or trash bin as youre removing your wall, vs dropping it on the ground kicking up all that dust then picking it up again to get it in a receptacle

Yea, I bet we also got mold and mildew where we think not. Safer to start from scratch! Be Well!
I like your yard. It looks so quiet the grass is green and the trees are well pruned. 👏👍

Nice.👍👍 I love how you created your intro and then showed how you did it in your outro.😍😍 Can't wait to see this room completed. See you next time.🤗🤗
You have truly given me renewed hope as I slowly renovate my ‘71 model ! which has no interior insulation and pathetic windows. THX! Be Well!
the subtle like...zen music hovering in the background is so great. I freaking love these videos
The duality of the soothing background spa music and demolition is 🤌🏼perfection. 10/10

The work on your house is amazing.
This has been the best series. Never get sick of watching you work!!
Great job, Matt. Your house is transforming into new and beautiful.🙂
Thanks, Becki! 😃
Thanks for sharing Matt! Im looking forward in seeing the results.
i admire your hardwork and perseverance man
Another nice detailed video. After all, “That’s what I do, that’s my thing…”. Haha.
Right, am off back to work, after having lunch, “Right Now!”
Love watching the work you do on your house
You are very talented

loving the subtle humor... can't wait for the timelapse!
Well done, Matt. New insulation, you don’t need to let the heat go outside. 😂

Glad to know you live in Mass! We're probably neighbors , you should totally do our house next for content purposes!
You do such a great job! Take care!

Thanks, man! That means a lot. I appreciate the support!
Yard looks nice. You should give us a tour. I mean we’ve already seen every inch of the inside of your house! 😂 we’re like family now. 😅
Agree, safety first. Inspecting and replacing all old wires are necessary in an old house.
Interesting this editing with the jazz peaks (the bass line making the passage) matching the old dry wall pulling.
Loved the video,great info🔨🪛🪚
It always fascinates me watching watching houses in the US being torn apart that easily 😮
Me too 😮, it's all bricks and concrete where I live.

Another reason to tear it down is because of the wallpaper and how difficult it is to remove without damaging it anyway.
Yes, exactly!

It's a drywall tarp taco 😄
Another great video and I was glad you included the clean up portion - I love to see that. Thanks for sharing and explaining your remodel.

for being built in the 40s those studs still look really good thats crazy
Yup. They don't make them like that anymore!
Oh wow Lane Bryant’s tall collection I used to get their clothes they had great Clothes for tall women
Great video & work! Nice to see the progress. I was wondering if you had cut the joint between wall & ceiling with a utility knife? Removal seemed like you did...
Not on this room. A lot of times you do if it is a good tape seam. Thanks for watching!
Install the rock wool insulation in all the interior walls to keep the house quiet.

Cool vid. I wait for the clean ups. I'm weird that way. Also, Is it worth your time to take scrap metal in to weight and get coins?
Thanks! It could be worth a trip but a friend of mine's son is starting to get into scraping so I would rather give it to him. I used to do it... it can add up. Thanks for watching!
Great job! You cleanup so well.

I think removing the old drywall is the right way. Drywall tends to absorb smells over time so with new drywayy it wont smell musky
Be kind to each other. Stay safe. Love to all
Awesome video.
If you put in sound insulation in the other walls (since the living room and master is there), will you explain it?
Yes. Absolutely. That is a plan for a video! 😁. Thanks for watching!

@@thewhatsup got ya! Stay tuned!
Exciting intro!
I new vid!? 💃🕺nice work!!
Great video, thanks !!!
Can you have a little talk with my husband? He needs motivation.
You have inspired me to rehab hillhouse, 🇺🇸
Thank you that how I feel
This is so satisfying to watch XD
I can’t believe he does all this with just a nail puller. Lol if it was me I’d a brought a sledge hammer, mini sledge hammer, multiple pry bars, and a hammer drill. Maybe even a skidsteer. Haha
I am unofficially subtitling this video "Fashionable Arm Day" 🤣 Seriously, though thanks for the video! 👌🏾🤗
The Fixer 👍
Nothing sexier than a man who cleans up after himself eh ladies? 😉😂
Great video as usual Matt 👌 👍 👏 😀
theres not a shut off where you can pull the full radiator out?
Beautiful. You are so talented. I am curious as to where your dining area is located. Is there a space in the kitchen or a separate dining room.
Cool video, just wondering why you didn’t take more precautions with asbestos control?
Thanks, Nathan. Everything was tested. No asbestos found.
The behind-the-scenes at the end :)
Are you removing the ceiling as well ? I don’t think you need to save the old drywall because it had texture on it .
How long did it take you to do everything you did to this room in your video?
Im starting a job doing this 10 hours a day. Im worried i will get fatigue from standing and working.
I had the same exact job two months ago I did three rooms just like you're doing now. My question is I'm about to do my kitchen and I think there may be lead paint. can drywall be recycled? i mean like tossed in a shredder and repressed?
That drywall looks thin
I couldn't amagin nailing dry wall like they used to do
Probably not intentional, but interesting juxtaposition of that very soft, almost melancholy background music with the action of ripping apart the walls that were once someone's dream room makeover.

haha! right now. loved it.
Very interesting videos. Do you plan to live in this home? New subscriber from Canada🇨🇦
What are window weights?
Smart.
Im about to purchase a 1940s home with a bad drywall job. So afraid to open those walls up...🧐😳
You should always be prepared to find some issues but don’t be scared!! Who knows, you might find something really cool!
I want to do this with my house that’s built in 50s but I’m scared there’s asbestos in the drywall
Is it normal that the wood is in so good condition after so many years?
