Absolutely loved this video. It spoke to me, even as a young women. Every one applied to me and I appreciate you mentioning this topic isn't about gender. It's about becoming a better human. So I'm glad I got over my fear of not fitting into the demographic you were aiming for ❤ my masculine qualities can be fostered in a positive and healthy, stoic way 😊

To be humble, kind, self-disciplined, unafraid of strenuous or arduous endeavors, curious rather than conceited, and of benefit to others, generally, while overcoming greed, envy, vanity, and quickness of temper, overcoming self-centeredness and fragility, all of this is in service to becoming a person of character, regardless of sex or gender.
The most pervasive mistake in the modern rediscovery of Hellenistic philosophy is putting any sort of masculinist capture around Stoicism.

Stoics in most part commited suicide. I don’t think that’s the answer for life. You know what is? Following the statutes and commandments of God. This is told by Jesus to gain life, stoics were the smartest dummies. Paul converted them to Christianity.
Over 500,000 churches in Europe today now, how many schools of Stoics are there? 1 million, no? How about 100,000? Not even that, if it doesn’t work, I don’t wanna use it, I wanna use things that work.

I think this is what I and most young men need to here. Most young men don't even know who they are in my generation.
I want to ask how can I guide most young men being a young stoic😮

  • @connorstar164

Atleast he got the basics down, Marcus tellius says, a room without books, is like a body without a soul. Looking at Ryan’s pocket library he’s got there. You can indeed see it’s not just stoicism that got him ahead, but all fronts and walks of life from various people did.
Stoics make up of splice and tiny grain of sand in time, what we see now is what to be cherished, which is the anthology of life.

  • @jesserhodes7430

I've gained so much from Stoicism. The problem I encounter is that these young men aren't hungry for success. They dont want to be uncomfortable, they have zero drive. Stoicism works for people who are driven but lost or for those who are off course but have that hunger deep down. 80% of the work is done by 20% of the people and there's a lack of personal accountability and wanting to be a productive member of society. Yes, its hard for young men today but it was also hard 100 years ago. These are self caused hardship. It's never been easier, safer, more comfortable than it is today for human kind.

Great question, definitely had a similar question as I used to play a lot of overwatch. Think what matters, I actually played overwatch with my younger cousin for years, and we made life long memories- I used to not like him that much tbh, and now he's like my best friend. And remember moderation and temperance, there is a time to work, and then there is a time not to. Do you get relaxation from gaming? Or does it stress you out? These are important questions to ask yourself, and make the time spent relaxing worth it. There's a thing in body building about reducing fatigue, and many elite athletes and IFBB pro's use some kind of vice like tv shows or smoking weed to reduce metabolic stress so that they can come back HARDER. do I play video games? Not at school, in college I left my gaming mice & keyboard at home and when I'm back from break, it's a break

    • @aw_1890
      @aw_1890 2 дні тому

@wilsonwong8176 oooooof, I have been playing overwatch since I was 12. I have a love hate relationship with that game, but I've recently quit that game to focus on less stressful games, and more on games where I get a sense of relaxation and fulfillment. That said, I only play evenings. But I'm glad I could have a conversation about this In a mature and humble space, where there are no self proclaimed alpha males promoting broicism

In my opinion games are good if they bring something to your life. Books are considered better than games, but there are many books that are just entertainment that have no value. I think that the game taught me a lot, things that I wouldn't find in books. It's a matter of choosing the right games and books. You can quickly read a book that is considered a "must read" and understand nothing, or you can read a fantasy book that has wisdom that will speak to you. You have to be open and not let go of something because someone thinks it is bad. I would focus on eliminating simple distractions from work that do nothing for you. If you get irritated in games, this is not the way to go

      @Asty56 День тому +2

I understand your concern. What helped me the most and usually was feeling more like a reward was when I did give gaming a time gap. Just 2 h a day or one day a week to relax gave me freedom from my mind. I always wanted to play. I settled my mind just by saying we will have time to play but it is not yet. That was really satisfactory and I did actually enjoy gaming more nowadays :)

Great video. I get it. It's just a little too close of a title to feel like it's not leaning in to the worst uses of stoicism in "how to be a man" rn. I appreciate the way its done, the title is for those who are looking for something else so maybe thats more good. Just hard to read a title and it's directed absolutely against you in thumbnail. That I can't super qualify and I value your authenticity and how much my ignorance is. Just a reaction as a female in a male dominated field of all fields somewhat. And I don't know. This title did have gender connotations...and the romans didn't after discussion as you say, so the title...Is there a female you can recommend for a specific video? As you do live a traditional in modern understanding role.

I wish you could have chosen a better, less polarizing example than Adam Kissinger. He’s gone and Trump has been reelected cause the whole country is moving away from the anti-masculinity movement. We all WANT a strong man to bring back order instead of leaving us vulnerable through poor boundaries and a bleeding heart for all except his own people.
Argue if you must but the people have spoken and they would rather have a strong bully then a crying emotional wimp. It’s not about perfect character. It’s about strength and keeping us safe. Peace through strength

Can you make a video about the many passages in meditations where Marcus is depressed, sad, talks down to himself, threatens himself with self unaliving, and some positive spin?
    Book 4
A black characters a womanish character, a stubborn character, bestial, childish, animal, stupid, counterfeit, scurrilous, fraudulent, tyrannical.
    Book 10 entry 8 1st and 3rd paragraphs
Claim your entitlement to these epithets - good, decent, truthful; in mind clear, cooperative, and independent
    3rd paragraph
Launch yourself, then on these few claims. If you can stay within them, stay there like a man translated to some paradise, the island of blest.
But if you feel yourself falling away and losing control, retire in good heart to some corner where you will regain control -
Or else make a complete exit from life, not in anger, but simply, freely, with integrity, making leaving at least one achievement in your life.
All of the inspirational quotes online from Marcus Aurelius fail to capture the man. This makes his inspirational quotes have so much more weight.

What about personal goals, enjoyment and self expression? The amount of people that have that problem that you described in America is probably so small it’s absurd. 48% of adults are projected to be obese by 2030. It takes discipline to go to the gym day in and day out, get adequate sleep and diet. That’s why 99% of the public don’t look ripped or have muscular bodies. Gaining muscle and losing fat is one of the hardest things to do. Also, let’s not forget the myriad of health benefits muscle growth has on the body. Saying that’s a vice is unfounded to me.

Why “How to Be a Man” but not “How to Be a Woman” how is cultivating virtues orcalm tenacity or moral wisdom asribed to being a Masculine Man but not to beng a “True Woman” “Feminin Woman”? Logically where doss the cultural double standard where “Masculine” is connoted with moral and cognitive traitts, but the term “Being a Real Woman” or “”Being a Feminine Woman” today especially connotes vapid and vacuous surface level mannerisms like gracefulness, and in our contemporary Western Culture connotes solely stereotypes of submissioon not evolving virtuous traits, wisdom or moral traits ? From childhood women are told being a”Feminie” Woman or a “Real Woman” means
changing how a woman appears, superficial mannerisms and being submissive to bosses, husbands, boyfriends fathers etc.
This linguistic double standard or what “Being a Real Man” means/conmotes culturally VS what “Being a Feminine Woman” is culturally charged unveiling sociocultural differences of gender stereotypes amd expectations embedded in society woth regard to Men VS Women.

Don't add in twists when it so fits you or an ideology. You're a messenger of the stoics. I came here for lessons on stoicism, right from the source, and I left with a lack of respect for you.

If the ancient stoics could see you grifting, they would just have pity for you. the fake stoic, profiting from a knowledge you don't practice

Can you support your claims about grifting, being a "fake" Stoic, and him not practicing Stoicism?
The ancient Stoics would probably see Ryan as a "Prokoptôn".

@davidzack8735 Epistemology, metaphysics, and ethics aren't science, it's philosophy. Regardless, if you study Stoicism 1000 years ago, today, or 1000 years from now it would require you to study their epistemology, metaphysics, and ethics.

Not gonna lie, after you try to sold us an “stoic coin” I kind of lose interest on the channel. Don’t get me wrong I know you want to monetize your business there’s nothing wrong with that but not in that way. Not for me at least.

I think that is incredibly harsh when the videos his emails & podcats and vast amount of the access to this community is free sure the coin costs money I mean it costs money to make its just a little thing it's really not that important at all if he started charging for the videos or podcasts I could see why but losing interest over a coin is harsh
