Hi Celso, this is Luisa. I like the voice over better than the other videos because you can actually see the way we are watching and comment accordingly. As always thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!
What a great video.... I still have to learn a lot and have to let my dog's hair grow on the sides and the legs. My dog is very harsh and don't have much coat on the legs and the skirt. I took too much some time ago and now will probably wait ages it grows again. Anyway thank you for explaining how to do the columns on the front legs... Beautiful grooming and a beautiful dog too. Once again thank you for spending a lot of your time to prepare this video and share it with us. A huge amount of knowledge
Thank you Celso! I really like the new format with the voice over. It seems to flow better and really focuses more on the details of grooming which I feel is so important in the learning process. This video is excellent! Thank you Celso for sharing your talents with everyone.
Celso - just finished watching Lesson #1, and I really like your new format. Keep up the great instruction - there is hope for my learning!! Now going to try to practice all your teaching on my wooly mammoth 3 yr old male. :)
I really like the advice of going further and taking more hair out so I know where I should shop next time. I have been trying to this more often and I'm learning a lot from my grooming.
Thank you very much! Love the voice over. Only critique I could offer is several up close pics of focused sections from the video. Maybe like a few pics of head line so we could see back of ears, neckline begining/finish, close up of butt or back of tail. Thanks so much for sharing. I'll be looking forward to these every week!
Thanks Celso, wonderful job, very educational and well explained! I love this format where you record and then comment afterwards. You are more focused this way. Looking forward to the next episode! I subscribed. 👌👌
Thank you very much. This video covers some of the areas I struggle with the most, so this is great 😊 I think the voice over works very well 👍🏻 Why do you start with the Judge side? 🤔
Thankyou for doing these video's for us Celso, and your generosity sharing your knowledge and grooming tuition, so lovely 😍 to listen , and hopefully learn better techniques !!!
I messaged Pia for that gripping tool. That is amazing. I tend to still break / cut hair with knives, so this would be ideal, have been using rubber finger to help.
Incredible work 😍 I have a Westie that I have been stripping for over a year now , he is still young and I have still so much to learn . I will be grooming him again in a few weeks time . I am excited to use your techniques 😀
Hi Celso, Very interesting content, techniques, tips and so on. I have a question about the fur of my year and a half old Westie. It’s soft and curly, not wired as it should be. I’ve purchased stripping tool, and tried to do it properly, but the process of pulling out the fur is quite difficult, as well. So, the question is how to proceed with the grooming in order to prevent this curly fur. BR Tsvetan Tsvetan
In your case it might have to do with genetics. Some westies have wavy hair, some curly, some soft. These are wrong types of hair and you get soft hair with one of the other types, at one yer of age, there is a good chance the hair won’t go harsh and if you keep pulling you might start to hurt the dog. I would clip the dog for grooming instead of hand stripping. We also clip older westies, it won’t be bad for the dog as some people say, it would be worse to keep pulling soft hair. That is my advice for you. Regards.
To be completely honest, it is not caused by only one reason, so you. Have to discover what is causing it and try to fix the problem. It can be because the area is wet a lot of the time, it can be saliva, licking can cause red stains in both areas, is the dog licking because of boredom, fungus or other reason. It depends a lot. It is hard. To give one solution to the problem. Keeping it clean and dry is a good start.
Amazing work as always Celso 👍 How many teeth do you have on your blending shears? Are they detailing shears ? Thank you I'm really looking forward to seeing more of your work 😊🐾🐾
@@deborahsalazar3252 it doesn’t but it is a sensation that they haven’t had yet and because of that some puppies fight a bit at the beginning. Some times they are fighting and screaming, then someone or something distracts them and they simply forget you are pulling for a while until they loose interest and they go back being unruly. Once they get use it they are ok.
Thanks Celso! Your guidance is much appreciated! Question. Will pulling thin furr inside the back legs cause the hair to grow thicker? The furr is so sparse and soft inside the legs.
Thanks a lot for very useful video! What tipe of shampoo do you use for care and for show grooming (whitening/ moisturizing/ super clean...)? Do you use conditioner or mask? Thank you again!

Question for you 🙏🏽: I don’t feel like I am getting any hair out of my 8 mo old westie puppy who has never had a groom. I’m using just my hand as you suggested. What do I do?
There might be something wrong with your pulling technique, if you have never done before It is hard ti explain it in writing ✍️ What the video again see how I do it and try to replicate. Just grab a few hairs to start with, hold the tips firmly and pull without twisting the wrist.
Okay; I have rewatched the video and now I think I have taken too much out. I started on her back and found myself essentially removing all hair to make it look flat. No hair protruding. But that’s meant that most the wire coat is gone. I’m thinking this is incorrect. I’m nervous to keep going incase I am doing it wrong. She looks a mess as her fur is super long. Thank you
Thank-you so very much. Our Westie is 10 mos. old and she is quite a challenge to groom. How many and what type of grooming tools do you use? I have learned much from you already and I look forward to watching more of your videos. Thanks again. Giselle
I use the grooming tool I sell for handstripping, and the Larsen knives. I also use chalk to help with the grip and to give it the final touches I use a thinning sheers
thanks! been slowly shifting to stripping only. do you have links to recommended tools? we have an undercoat rake, scissors, combs, and a (cheap) slicker brush. need stripping tools tho
You might need a stripping knife and a stripping tool, Larsen knives are great, get the red one and the stripping tool you can get from Pia Micheelsen Rol look her up on Facebook
Hi There, It is not painful and it has to be done in some breeds, their coat was bred for that. You can use scissors in many breeds and even in terriers if you want, like manny people clip their pet terrier but if you want to keep the correct hair texture they way these breeds were intended to have, you must hand-strip, she is a bit stressed not because of pain but because she hasn’t got used to that yet. If you want to learn more about how to care for harsh terrier coat, there are several books and vides, it is not a matter of using scissors instead. Anyway, thanks for your comment, we cannot learn if we don’t speak. Your comment is appreciated.
I understand where you comment comes from but if you knew why we do this and how and why the breed was created you would know that on top of nit being painful it is good for their skin health.

You can look it up, mine is the Flipper from Kenchii only one side is thinning the other is straight
Do you use the 7 or 8 inch flipper?
Your videos have helped me so much! You are a great teacher. Is there a particular brand or type of thinning shears you recommend?
I used to recommend Kenchii, It is a good brand

Question. Will pulling thin furr inside the back legs cause the hair to grow thicker? The furr is so sparse and soft inside the legs.
There are places where hair will be always softer than others, it will keep it at the existing texture.
What powder are you using to enhance grip of the hair?
It is grooming chalk, terrier chalk
How Long should the hair by at the legs ?
it depends, it should make the leg look proportional to the body.
Do you do that on a c.ean or dirty coat
Faily clean, as long it is not too dirty, you do need to bath the dog to groom.
The only part of the dog that should be clean is the head

What’s the length of hair immediately behind the ears?
It depends, 2 inches in certain places a little smaller in others, I don’t measure it has to feel right

Is this painful for the dog?
@@sherrycoulter7674 hi Sherry,
Not for breeds that were bred for hand stripping grooming, you cannot do that. In any breed, for them it doesn’t hurt.
No
Hi how long should it take to hand strip a westie start to finish?
It depends on how bad the dog is, anywhere from 2 to 4 hours

Great video, thx!
