I finally got my Askar 103 with the 1X flattener out last night. The camera was an ASI533MC Pro. It's a great combination. The stacked tiff looked great, but I need to work on my processing. Thanks again for recommending this OTA. I love it. I can't wait to get the ASI183MM Pro on this puppy. Umm, kitty.
trying to decide for a longer scope - between the Askar 103APO, the 120APO and the 140APO that way if I can not get my SCT back up and running I at least have an option past my WO61.
I had my D3200 converted to full spectrum, for dual narrowband targets, and with 3 min exposures, I got a lot of glow around the edge of the frame, for broadband i used my D850 which has zero glow, now i use a zwo 533mc pro and looking to buy the Askar 103 within the next couple of months
Even though I've been looking at this scope A LOT, wanting to get a little deeper FL refractor, I found issues with my WO Z73's focuser drawtube that I decided were too troublesome or too expensive to fix for astrophotography use, so I decided to replace it with the Apertura 75Q that's been on sale! Of course, that means I've had clouds pretty much ever since taking delivery of the scope, so I haven't been able to test it out! Regardless, I'm still loving these videos on the 103...it's still a scope I'd like to add to my arsenal in the future!
I was hoping to see the .6x reducer in the OSC test! That’s where my real concern with star shapes and chromatic aberration is, based on Nico’s video. Any chance of seeing some shots in OSC with the .6x? Thanks!
I think there is a good possibility of that. Just need clear skies for that one. I'm in winter lock out right now. I'll keep the channel updated through posts and I'll shout out when it's about to happen. Probably a good idea to round off the series. Thanks!
hi, great video, thank you. I'm presently getting ready to purchase Askar 103, that I'm going to use with Nikon DSLR like yours. My question would be, "how to adjust back focus for my camera?" I don't see you using any adapters, only T adapter for DSLR. Am I correct? BTW, you already helped me with back focus on WO 61 in you previous video. Thanks again.
Oh hey! Thanks for watching this one too! The askar 103 has a backfocus of 55mm so if you are using a dslr all that is required is the t ring since the dslr is already at 55 ish! Happy Holidays!
So does a 2" filter thread right in to the 0.8x R/F? Any special adapters required? I'm looking at buying the 103APO to use with my Nikon D5300. Other than the M48 to Nikon adapter would anything else be required to use, say, an Optolong L-Extreme or something similar?
It does! I demonstrated that in this video ua-cam.com/video/_cGhKptlhd8/v-deo.htmlsi=OPzGsu46tHOUNCYE&t=824 It's pretty nifty and that T ring is all you need to connect your Nikon
Being 100% a cat person and 0% a dog person, I like your channel much more than AstroBackyard's 🙂Thanks Taco!
Thanks for watching!! Taco definitely Appreciates it too lol. 😋 but hey Rudy is pretty cool too tho. 😎 we need more astro pets on channels!
Taco is adorable!! And the OSC review is right up my alley! Happy Holidays my man.
Thanks! And happy holidays to you!

I love my 103, it's one of the best deals going out there.

So you are to blame for the clouds!! Lol. Glad you are still enjoying these vids thanks for watching. Congrats on your new scope! Happy holidays
Looking good, what are the extreme corner star shapes like with just the flattener…? Couldn’t quite see in the images on here…
They were surprisingly really good. Stars were nice and round for me with my 294mmpro

Sounds good
Your refer to all the accessories as reducer/flateners. Are each of the the reducers flateners as well?
Yes they are. They reduce as well as correct the field of view for nice round stars.
@@astronotna Thank You. I had seen other items that were clearly sold as flatners/reducers , nice to know this about Askar.

T adaptors for dslr will give 55mm back focus without any extra spacers
May I ask you one question:
Would you shoot with the 1x or with the 0.8?!
Of course you can. If you don't need the 700mm focal length then for sure the .8x reducer for faster photo speeds

@@astronotna Awesome. Thank you!
Haha, my cat is also named Taco. He's especially active and in need of my attention whenever I try record anything.
Must be in the name!! Give Taco my best!!
