I will try making a small batch for my nerites .... using agar agar , squash, chickpeas , spinach , plecos food, spirulina ...and nori algae . Adding turtle calcium instead of tums. I hope they eat it.

I'm just curious about that shrimp pellets because I know most of them contains traces to few copper contents which is shrimps can tolerate since they are small dozes but snails are susceptible to any amount of copper. I tried feeding them with shrimp tablet that doesn't have an accurate label of ingredients and just a few days my snails almost perished that I had to salvage any remaining ones that are still crawling.

Can't you use ground egg shells for calcium?

just fyi...a mortar and pestle make short work of those algae wafers 🙂

A mortar works a lot better than that tool. But you could use a pill crusher too

May I ask what their regular diet is. I’ve been told they need to eat everyday? Am I over feeding?

Hey Andrew, do you know if vegetables containing copper are harmful to Mystery snails? Kale, spinach, turnip greens all contain copper. Just put a turnip green in the tank last night. Thought I would try it because it is soft and also provides calcium.

Add more gelatin maybe 2 packs for every 4 oz(half cup) and let the dry ingredients mix well into the paste

    Will nerite snails eat it?
Will it hurt the betta in the tank?
And if my nerites will eat it can I use pleco wafers in it? I don’t have hikari I typically give my nerite pleco wafers which is still an algae water

How long can you keep snail jello frozen? Like, what is it's shelf life?

I use a coffee grinder to grind cuttlebone for the calcium powder and store it in a jar. For the food I use flake food as the online recipe tells me to. 2 jars green beans baby food. 1 bag jello. And thats it. Basically the same process just easier. And cheaper.

Be sure you test each food with your snails, before making snail jello.
Refined sugar isn't good for snails.
You can buy pounds of food grade calcium carbonate off ebay fairly cheap.
For LAND snails, Goldfish Flakes seem to be favored over other fish/turtle/algae foods or shrimp.
Also, a lot of stuff gets mushy in water, which i would think makes mixing easier than when it's dry.

Hi, Why don't you just desolve the hard stuff in a little HOT water first? I'm going to start off first with Peas and Cucumber, that's what my snails and shrimps like most.

I can not find pureed baby food that doesn't have poultry in it. Would that be safe to use for this kind of food? Thanks!

Looks disgusting. I wonder if the gelatin would mix better if it was put in before it was heated?

Good video but I had a few questions for you if you don't mind answering them.
The baby food. I know it’s Gerber and comes in a square box but could I get a product description? What is the size in oz?
How many shrimp pellet (approx) 10?
What is causing the bubbles to form? Boiling the mix?
How long do you cook the food mix before and after adding the jello? What temp?
Does it matter what flavor on the equate tablet I use? Can I mix the flavors?
    Thanks! :)

    • @coralocean1442

You don't have to use Gerber, just any baby food high in calcium (spinach, green beans etc).Just one container is fine, where I shop baby food is in pouches I use 1 pouch. You can also grind up cuttlebone (the one for birds) it's very cheap. The other thing I do is microwave the baby food for 30 seconds until it's hot then add the dry stuff. It's not an exact recipe I just eyeball it. If you don't want to do that I would say I use a tablespoon of calcium (cuttlebone) 1/2 tablespoon of crushed fish food (Bug Bites) 1/2 tablespoon of New Life Spectrum. Just make sure it's all finely ground before adding to hot baby food. I then put 1 and 1/2 packets of gelatin. To keep the bubbles out don't stir too hard, fold it in and smash clumps with a spoon. Hope it helps.
