Very cool! Fond memories of low baud rate modems and BBS systems :) This is great. You can write the next pop hit on a trs-80 😆😆

There are so many cool upgrades for old 8 bit computers developed by enthusiasts, I would have loved this back in the day, I did have a MIDI interface for my Commodore 64 though

Oh geez - the first computer I used on a daily basis was a Trash 80 model III. This was 1985 and there were no computer classes in high school, so I needed to take an extension course. I had already taught myself assembler, but I wanted to learn C. In order to get into that class though you had to take a data entry class first (this was the infancy of personal computing). We used Trash 80s and a program called VisiCalc, plus a word processor I don't recall the name of. Incidentally Lotus 1-2-3 - which if you were an accountant in the 80s and 90s you will know this program - was based on VisiCalc. I went on to take that C class finally and I aced it. We used mainframes for that class and I had to submit my program as a job, wait for it to run, and get the print out for my grade. Two different worlds for sure :)

Incidentally the first computer I ever coded on was a TRS-80 Model 100. My uncle who was a professor at LBSU and UCR was writing a program with one of his graduate students to help ESL students learn the language better. He brought the computer and a print out of the program to our house one weekend when he was visiting. I was intrigued and when he started showing me the BASIC printouts something inside me clicked. I was 13 or 14 at the time I think, and I basically made it impossible for him to get any work done. I begged him to use that computer all weekend long and I taught myself BASIC. That was the first computer I ever touched, and the first computer I ever programmed.

@@BitwiseMobile things have changed a lot since then, yes. I remember Lotus 1-2-3, but didn't get a PC before 1993. Before that, an Amiga 500 (1987), preceded by the Amstrad CPC 464 (1985). My first computer I got in 1983, a Busch 2090 Microtronic. A 4bit CPU trainer, basically. Machine code and hex 7segment display. Around that time, 1984, before getting the CPC 464, I took an afterschool class in the community center. The teacher was a GI and had brought his own 4 Model IIIs for us to use. We learned BASIC. Since then, I have a soft spot for the Model III, even though I didn't own one until September this year. Thanks for sharing your memories here! Cheers

    Pretty cool!
My dad used the TRS-80 III in the mid to late 80s to calculate and print tournaments of homing pigeon races ;-)
I learned coding on it before switching to MSX(2) and PC's.

Pigeon races - now that's what I call a unique use case! Thanks for sharing!
