Same here buddy. Hope you enjoyed the video and thanks for your comments. For me, that is the ideal seat to sit in because I can get the best kind of shot and easily narrate. I rarely see 2nd row available but I notice it here and there
Nice Tim. And your ride is free there, yet. The head end shots sure beat side window shots, especially with Sun glare or a dirty window. And with side window shots you can't see and call out the signals for your viewers. But I still think it's nuts that SEPTA blocks off the front seats. If you told them that in places like Chicago, they'd laugh. The single track rural area on the outer end of the Doylestown line is a lot like what West Chester was like years ago. I loved the Doylestown line years ago with the old Reading Company MU cars. They were great in the summertime with the open windows and the whining gear and traction motor sounds. I loved that like you love horns.
Great Video! Every time i watch your train trips, I want to take a train ride! I have rode this line twice to Doylestown I must liklely to visit the art museum or the Mercer Museum witch is worth a visit. On my return trip back to Philadelphia, i departed in North Wales to stop at a local craft Brewery,. after that got next train Home.
19:20 west Trenton used to go to Newark. It would get you there around 9a and you’d arrive at wall st via path around 920. Very popular to go from Jtwn to nyc this way back in the day
Ah hahaha!! I was waiting for you to get my brother from another mother!! It’s funny how he recognized your voice. Bill I believe you owe beers now! Lol
Great video! I saw an eagle eating a fish it had caught on the railroad track near Westport around Thanksgiving, the birds really love playing it dangerous near the railroad.
I appreciate your preference 2 the Silverliner 5 trains, I do so myself. However the Silverliner4 deserve some praise 4 their longevity and durability. I also share your liking of the MTA LIRR M9.
Yes, the Silverliner 4’s have been durable. I love the 5’s but admit they won’t be around nearly as long. My distaste for the 4’s are based on appearance and sound. They just don’t light any kind of fire under me at all.
I use to ride the R 5 Fernrock to Lansdale when I worked at a Scout Camp in Greene Lane Pa. Man, that sometime was a Chore. sometime I would catch the R7 from Homlesbug to 30th Street and transfer.
I know that I am not in the minority but with the resurgence of both Allentown and Bethlehem, bring back a one seat ride to Philadelphia via the train would be a Godsend.
I agree And if you are wondering Hellertown Stop should be located at the Old reading Railroad table it's where the Exxon is off Interstate 78 William Penn Highway exit 67 PA-412 Hellertown Bethlehem that way it can simply get passengers from the Trans Bridge Bus that runs on I-78 William Penn Highway towards Manhattan some of them actually run Newark Airport. From Hellertown Stop next Stop Eastbound is Clinton I-78 NJ exits 15-18
Really enjoyed this video. I’m a DelVal alum and Doylestown resident and watched this video in its entirety. FYI if you have the Septa app in the bottom right click More then Train View it will show you the cars numbers on the trains currently running. The 700 and 800 series are the Silverliner Vs.
Just in case you haven't already seen, East Side Access is opening this Wednesday 1/25 with the first train leaving Jamaica for Grand Central departing at 10:45am, and the first return trip departing at 11:34am
I thought you'd mention the phase break that occurs right before the first signal after you exit the tunnel. SEPTA trains operate at 12.5Khz on the Reading side and 12Khz on the Amtrak(PRR) side.
Those signals near the phase break used to make some engineers nervous. The FRA would hide there with jumper cables buried in the ballast. They then would short the signal to "Stop" after the train already had a "clear".
There is, but on the GEs half of them dont work, or its faster for me to shout through the car. On the 5s i do the PA, and shout, and have the narrator, cause lets face it people still will miss a stop
Have you ever thought of going to Denver, as their system (not the light rail) is all their MU's are a sister fleet ordered at about the same time as SEPTA's. I can't tell from the videos if they forced their crews into the same kind of little subway style cabs as SEPTA did;(which gives you that RFW). In Denver they don't seem to have any provision for low platforms.
Because the track on the far right has a slower operating speed because it has the yard lead on the extreme far right. It also has a sharp switch point on the north end. So 30mph vs 15mph even though we make the stop. Scheduled to the second lol
West Trenton between Jenkin & Trent is 70mph, between Caramel & Dale is also 70mph, the airport line between 60th Street & Airport Jct (90th Street) is 80mph
Enjoyed your show. Bill is a nice guy. One question SEPTA trains seem to run very slow when compared to the subway in NYC. This trains are electric so why so slow? is there a reason for that?
They do 60 in places. I had a slight zoom on the camera so it looks slower than it is. I have to zoom a little to show more of the track than the interior of car
It was a pleasure chatting with you! Next stop Doylestown!

Hey Bill it’s Connor what’s the train going to be for 6516 and 6525 on Friday
One of your best videos. Thx so much.
Pleasant ride!! I rode this line to/from Oreland when my parents lived there.
Conductor Bill is really good at his job.
Thanks Tim😀💚
Mucho appreciato my friend! It means a lot to keep pushing through the day!
This is a real nice video you sir are a fountain of knowledge that I enjoy listening to. And the conductor was a pleasure as well.

With my new stick, I plan on going back and re-doing some of the lines. And I hope to get some Long Island Rail Road M3 rides.

Great video! Especially for us transit fans out west.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Another great one Tim!
One thing I love about SEPTA. They are all electric
(Also by extension Denver RDT which is modeled after then and uses silver liners as well)
Ah hahaha!! I was waiting for you to get my brother from another mother!! It’s funny how he recognized your voice. Bill I believe you owe beers now! Lol
I can run but I can’t hide in the railroad world 😀😀
2:15 my fave is Warminster. I live close to this line though. Nice they changed some of the announcements to have passes ready

I’m definitely aware of that. That’s how I find these trains.
Great , great assistant conductor ! Where was he when I worked this line ? I seemed to always work with the goofballs

Well aware!!!!!!!
@@3985uprr unfortunately I won't be able to head there on day 1 but I'll be there on Friday instead.
@@nathanjiang100 due to a family commitment. It probably will be Friday that I show up for that also.
The door chime sounds like that one noise in McDonalds with the long beeps
Bills only been here a year don't take his word on anything
Have some faith in the man 🤨

“I know that voice!” 😂
I’ve become a legend in Philadelphia 😂😂
4:30 give or take
there's no way to make manual announcements on the PA on a Silverliner.?
Ho does pretty good at it
@@3985uprr he really does it's old school i love it

Denver has full width cabs in those
I'm sure you'll be on the LIRR on Wednesday to Grand Central Madison... Looking forward on your video!👍
I don’t think so. Some family commitment popped up. There’s a chance I may go.

@@jmegp It was a possible family issue but it worked itself out thankfully.
One question please Can take Doylestown line from 30 street station
Every hour
8:37 what is the point of doing that if the right track just merges with the line later on anyway?
Because the track on the far right has a slower operating speed because it has the yard lead on the extreme far right. It also has a sharp switch point on the north end. So 30mph vs 15mph even though we make the stop. Scheduled to the second lol
That guy is an ASSISTANT Conductor. Not a Conductor.
Thanks for the correction but it is what it is.
How fast are the septa lines outside of the Northeast corridor/Keystone corridor
Generally 60 max I believe
West Trenton between Jenkin & Trent is 70mph, between Caramel & Dale is also 70mph, the airport line between 60th Street & Airport Jct (90th Street) is 80mph
Fastest is 70mph while Airport line is 80mph.
Great video! I ride the Paoli Thorndale and Manayunk Norristown everyday. Do you like Norristown?
Interesting ride up there. Ride the HSL when I’m there. Birthplace of Tommy Lasorda and Mike Piazza

18:36 my old stop
Intro ends 0:28
I’ve had it much longer.
18:28 just east of suburban station
8:58 dangerous especially north of your location until you reach the city limits
You say you jump at the chance to ride tge SILVERLINER.
what does that mean??
When that RFW seat is available on the Silverliner 5’s
What is *RFW* ?
