It's a kinda common fear. Mannequins can really set off that uncanny valley vibe for people, and when they start moving, it really sets the brain off. Of course, things like dim lighting helps, because our brains are kinda awful at telling what things are outside of a general shape, so now you're more on edge because something *looks* human, but it doesn't move in a human way and it's closer and then suddenly the hindbrain is going "NOTHUMANNOTHUMANRUNORKILL"
A morbid sense of humor and a dash of being genre savvy really helps when dealing with anything lovecraftian lol. Also reminds me a bit of The Shore, but that's a 'lone survivor' type experience from the beginning and takes a few more liberties.
@@senatuspopulusqueromanus2082 To be fair it was a flash in the pan, the twists are obvious if you know some lore and it's more of a sightseeing tour than an fps, but for an indie the graphics music and voice acting were great.
I just don't get why SOMA was so bad for me, but this did nothing, kinda more cool than scary. Maybe it is just the humor/Scottish. And the bright hyperactive ferret on screen
@@BierBart12 Perhaps it's because Still Wakes The Deep focuses on extreme body horror (which is grotesque but not "real"), while SOMA leans heavily into existential terror instead?
Am Glasweigan and a family member of mine, their husband works on a rig in the north sea as a driller (weeks on weeks off which is hard for a family) so this was kinda on the nose. I mean game has a vibe for sure i'll give it that and the acting is good for a computer game. However, looks like it had the issue with Alien Isolation (world is fantastically made in that game tho); i eventually 'got' the gameplay loop, so the Aliens ceased to be a threat and more of a nuiscance and at the end gameplay gets dragged. I lol'd whenever Caz says "prick" idk my humour is guff.
Hah, ended up playing through this a few weeks ago, and pretty much spot on with your thoughts throughout. Great voice acting, great atmosphere, only complaint was not being able to get to know the crew better before they started dying off. As an American not used to some of the dialect being used, the "translated" subtitles were quite useful.
"Did you know teeth is available for streaming" never have I felt like I've shared a brain cell so badly. I mention this movie atleast once a month to someone just as a reminder that it exist.
my only complaint with the game is using Ketoacidosis as Roy's cause of death. it takes DAYS for that to happen. Roy must have not taken any insulin for at least 24 hours before the game, and to slip into a coma and die withing 12 hours he had to have not had insulin for around 3 days. source: Diabetic who has gone into Ketoacidosis multiple times and been hospitalized for it.
Not to disagree, but can't an elevated level of stress impact it as well, considering all the horrors that we see, I can't imagine this scenario fits your experience 1-to-1. Although, even I am questioning how he has managed to get all the way, from the 1st/2nd level of accommodations, passing his own cabin with his Insulin, all the way to the roof, without dying. That's honestly more unbelievable to me, but I also think that's the best way you could die, considering the fate of so many other crew mates 😢
@@chriswihulu absolutely, I considered adding that stress can jump your blood sugar up, but it still takes hours for Ketoacidosis to start, and still means you have not been taking your insulin for at least 20 hours or so, so I didn't put that in. Obviously, it's a game, I need to recite the MST3K Mantra, but since it's a subject so close to me it stood out. HOWEVER all that said, it did not take away from enjoyment of the game or this let's play at all!
@@firebert123 of course it's subjective, and I only wanted to ask out of curiosity, since I've no knowledge about your situation or the one they've tried to portray in the game. @@chriswihulu ill be hones,t im also happy that they at least got it accurate how diabetes works. so much media is just "Sugar bad", ignoring there are 2 types of diabetes.
@@firebert123 I was Honestly thinking it might be a sorta Chekhov's Gun scenario, that the parasite wouldn't attack someone who was already unhealthy, as Roy made it to the roof without a visible scratch on him and that you'd end up using the insulin on a monster perhaps. This was a fun one! ...Though I may be biased, being Scottish. Bit safe on the accents, but very appreciated all the same. And since I don't handle spooky stuff so good, better Limes then me! ...I'm sure that came out wrong but what I mean is as humble viewer it's easier for me to not look during peak spookums, which is a LOT harder to do and live when the game expects you to react during things.

8:08 Wow that is significantly more fucked up looking than I was expecting This game seems to be if Cronenberg did Lovecraft Kinda like Dredge actually
This game was kinda fun but very obviously unfinished. Theres a good few pieces or content and mechanics never really touched on or explained. For example the first enemy sets up a hiding mechanic but you basically never deal with him. One of thr guys gets turned from a glowing light but its a one time thing never reused or explained. Orrrr how you can use some mechanics like kicking a door open and stuff but its used ONCE. Oh and whys the captain persay turn? Leaving the rig randomly made him 12-head for no clear reason. Its not a bad game just under developed

A statement very much on brand for Limes.
the characters talk and the only thing that comes to mind is Limmy saying all this, their accent is heavier than a kilogram of steel.
