While I now consider myself an atheist, one thing I will always appreciate about and give credit to the church I grew up in - as part of the tithing spiel each week, the pastor always said something along the lines of, “if you have excess to share, that’s wonderful, but if you’re having a tough time financially, or have a bill you need to pay, feel free to take cash from the offering plate, it’s all money intended to take care of the church and you are the church”, etc. I always felt it was sincere and my parents paid our electricity a couple months I can remember based on having this shame-free “charity” when they otherwise would’ve been unable to pay.

We still visit from time to time attending funerals , convocation , ect. This actually makes perfect sense in a Black Church community. Black Christians often hold the Pastor at the highest esteem. There is a historical part of this as during slave times often the preacher was the only one allowed to read and "lead". This is especially seen a lot in the south. I went to a New-thought Church in Atlanta that all the Black congregants all overly-hyped up the Pastor. It was so strange.
Good point about evangelicals. I was adopted into a christian (baptist) household and after I moved out and got a job & girlfriend I confessed to them that I had lost my faith and didnt believe in a deity anymore, and we still have great contact. They still bless me when I meet them.
I’m so happy to hear that. That’s awesome you’ve been able to maintain a happy relationship with them. I don’t want to belittle the pain of any evangelicals who have left the faith (heck, I did), but there’s a whole other level social repercussions that most of us will thankfully never have to experience for changing our beliefs.

I used to be at a Non denominational kinda of mega church when I was young. One of the main issues I had was first, the people seemed to be very worldly, but outwardly claiming Christian. It was kind of a social club. I also felt very awkward when tithes and offering came. It was also a 15-30 minute extra sermon that talked about sowing seeds. The pressure was there especially as regular attendees.

I’m laughing because perspective is such a funny thing. The form in which offering is raised in The House of Prayer is because we don’t do dues like most churches do. When you’re a free will organization, sometimes people have to encouraged to do their part. We have monthly expenses just like everyone else…..Tithes and offerings are separate entities. Hello friend, I quite enjoy your videos - when I originally saw the title, I thought it was going to be another atheist making fun of Christians; I am incredibly happy to see that I was wrong. I am curious if you have went to a Traditional Latin Mass Catholic Church, or a Byzantine Rite Catholic Church (or an Eastern Orthodox Church)? It is unlike the Churches you tend to go to, but it is an incredibly beautiful experience.
Trivia point - the Cathedrals traditionally have a chair just for their Bishop (but as the Bishop only covers the area in which the cathedral is the focal church they do get sat in). The word Cathedral is from Cathedra - the chair (throne).
Dude, cool videos. I just watched your Episcopal church vid and I really identified with your angst in trying to live a Christ honoring life. I like how you criticize the churches on how they line up with scripture. It’s interesting coming from an “atheist” perspective 😂. I really hope you find life in Jesus because I hope the same for myself. I barely know what that is anymore but I trust God to lead me to the truth.
I was a Jehovah's Witness for 45 years, a more subtle cult. At their upstate NY compound funded by the rank and file there are 9 men who make up the Governing Body. They have an arrangement where they assess a "suggested" monthly donation to the organization for every congregation based on how many baptized members they have. I have quietly faded from it, but I still have to be careful what I say or I may be removed for "apostasy" and none of my family that are still in would be allowed to talk to me. To anyone reading this, do not get involved with Jehovah's Witnesses.
You deserve many more subscribers, 10/10 content. But maybe the audience for exposing/reviewing religions/cults (but imo every religion is a cult that got too popular) isn’t that big hmm
Funny, 1919 is a significant date for JWs too. It's the year that their leader at the time, Judge Rutherford, was released from prison for releasing a book that was essentially one big war crime. They took it to mean that was the year Jesus had evaluated all the religions of the world and picked their organization as "the one true religion".
Even though I've never actually been to IHOP, the pseudo-seminary I went to had some loose affiliation with them. I'm sure they're got some skeletons in their closet, but I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for mystics.
When I was a Christian, I used to think UHOP was a scary church!!! I visited a few times as a child because I had some family members that were members there. I’m no longer a Christian and to be fair, I now think that all churches are cultish and scary 😩
I can totally understand how a kid might get creeped out going to a church like this. I had several Pentecostal experiences (most of which definitely were not culty) that still absolutely give me chills.
@@shepherddog1199 Oh, absolutely! If you're new here, check out some of my other videos. Most of the churches I visit are wonderful (even most of the Pentecostal churches).
I actually saw a number of parallels to Catholicism (I’m Catholic). There is a bishop’s chair at the Cathedral which usually does resemble a throne. He is also still referred to as “Your Excellency” though not all will address him that way- and kiss the bishop’s ring! All of it is supposed to point to him acting as an icon of Jesus. (In persona Christe). We don’t really sing about Pope or bishop, though there is traditional chants that exist which can be sung at the arrival of a bishop (not done very often anymore.) The money stuff seemed really bonkers and foreign to me though.
I made the mistake of reading their horrendous and never-ending “creed” one night. Made me nauseated, really. Not sure how they can be Nestorian & Monophysite all at once but they manage it. Give me an honest atheist any day. Any day. The members if these cults are to be pitied & prayed for, though.

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’"

yeah. you got a few things wrong in this one. the sunday collections are tithes, house offering, g class, and love gift. the tickets are for g class. that's the national contribution but broken down by individual members. the sponsor of the raffle is required to have the prize money prior to the raffle. the reason the collection is announced is for transparency and to let people know their contribution is appreciated. house offering is counted at the collection table and announced right then and there. if it is a small amount, the amount is not announced-- only that the person did so. house offering is counted at the collection table and announced right then and there. you have to remember that the house of prayer is completely self sustaining. million dollar edifices require a lot of donations. that's why there's pressure to raise a certain amount. also, you may not have noticed but there is a picture of black jesus on the wall of every house. it is a requirement and there is a penalty for not having it up. it may be on a side wall, but it's there.
There was a time when I mocked people who fell victim to these kind of cults, but having listened to a few who have escaped, I realized I was wrong to do so. These con-artists aren't much different than telephone and internet scammers. The only difference is the presentation and the false promises made.
If I'm honest, I often respect cult members and former cult members more than the general public. They're bold. They put their money where their mouth is and live austere lifestyles that demand something of them because they ultimately believe it's the right thing to do. Their desire to devote their lives to something bigger than themselves is exploited by wicked people.
@@HeliocentricOfficial I concede that is a perspective I've not considered. I would say those qualities do match the few people I've encountered. Though, it really just makes it even more heart wrenching. Decent, hard working people willing to give 100%, being exploited by snake oil salesmen. 😑

There's a church near me that's part of La Luz del Mundo, and they've also got two giant lion statues out front
Oh...and la luz's beliefs are very similar to this. They're also oneness pentecostals, and they also effectively worship their bishop
6:38 did know that! I like the band Ghost, we constantly talk about all the Papas.
I was going to say something about the brass instruments, but then sweet, sweet Precious Daddy creeped me out, and left me nearly speechless 😮
You’ll never guess the video I’m editing right now. 😉
@@HeliocentricOfficial I am excited; I just saw your Coptic Orthodox video. Hopefully, whichever one it was, you enjoyed it. Pax tecum, amicus meus
4:40 yup that's what cults do. The cult I was born into had Father David. And he wasn't a pastor. He was just your dad
That was excellent! Thank you.
Puts a whole new meaning to “Who’s your “Daddy”?
Trivia point - the Cathedrals traditionally have a chair just for their Bishop (but as the Bishop only covers the area in which the cathedral is the focal church they do get sat in). The word Cathedral is from Cathedra - the chair (throne).
The platform that the church throne site on is called daddy's mountain and no women are allowed to get too close to it.
That's a prayer of humility and grace I can 100% get behind.
Peace to you, my man.
their founder was a cabo verdean (tho technically portuguese because this was during portugal's occupation of cabo verde)
Jared. I would love to just have a one on one conversation with you. Please tell me you can accommodate this one day. It would be an honor.
I can't help it, these kinds of churches crack me up.
just found your channel today. you're doing the LORD's work. 😂😂😂 appreciate you sir.
0:01 I am gonna steal this hope you're ok with that
Funny, 1919 is a significant date for JWs too. It's the year that their leader at the time, Judge Rutherford, was released from prison for releasing a book that was essentially one big war crime. They took it to mean that was the year Jesus had evaluated all the religions of the world and picked their organization as "the one true religion".
Friend, may you come back to Christ one day. Many of us are thankful for you exposing this darkness.
He’s a unique gift.
They could take a page from ISKCON and have a life-size wax statue of the guru on a chair.
With how much tithe money they collected, they could have built three of 'em.
I thought you were going to talk about IHOP in kck. Definitely should check them out as well.
Not all churches are cultish. Maybe the churches in your local area aren't good churches.
@@shepherddog1199 Oh, absolutely! If you're new here, check out some of my other videos. Most of the churches I visit are wonderful (even most of the Pentecostal churches).
Try a Catholic Church ❤️
@@E-pistol You'll never guess what my next video is going to be about.
You're hilarious 😂😂😂...and also appreciate your review on this one
I actually saw a number of parallels to Catholicism (I’m Catholic). There is a bishop’s chair at the Cathedral which usually does resemble a throne. He is also still referred to as “Your Excellency” though not all will address him that way- and kiss the bishop’s ring! All of it is supposed to point to him acting as an icon of Jesus. (In persona Christe). We don’t really sing about Pope or bishop, though there is traditional chants that exist which can be sung at the arrival of a bishop (not done very often anymore.)
The money stuff seemed really bonkers and foreign to me though.
Have you ever heard of the Palmarian Church? I believe they have one or two Chapels in the US. Regardless, I think you'll enjoy learning about them! 😂
I call it the Palmolive Church 😂. All they do are processions and they’ve cut the Mass down to 5 minutes
Hi there. Do you have a degree or background in Sociology, by chance? I took Sociology 101 in college & loooved it & your approach reminds me of my studies, including what I learned about the sociology of religion. Im enjoying your videos BTW. Thank you for making them & being so fair and open minded...and best of all: very funny! Lol 😂
Welcome Ja'Red
I love the compassion that you show for the people stuck there.
Hey brother, just out of curiosity have you ever visited a Catholic Church?
A couple!
So far I’ve been able to visit The Vatican, La Sagrada Familia, The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Church of the Nativity, The Basilica of the Nativity, and some local Catholic parishes.
And speak of the devil, the audit I’m currently editing is for the Oldest Catholic Church in America I visited for an Easter Sunrise service. Should have that posted in the next week or two.
@@HeliocentricOfficial that’s awesome. I’m curious to see your thoughts as a catholic myself. God bless you!
This is insane, wow never would have thought there was a "denomination" like this lol
DUDE! This turned out fantastic! Great work on this💁🏻
Thank you so much, homie!! Couldn't have done it without your help!
You are good at this!! Cults love you, but they NEED money!
If you got rid of Sweet Daddy, this place doesn’t sound too bad
That’s where the evil comes from sweet daddy
brother, fix the sound, please. We constantly need to increase/decrease volume while watching your videos
Are you gonna make a part 2?
Planning my next visit as we speak.
There are different churches called House of Prayer. The one that you visited is not the same as the one with the FBI activities that you showed. Two different organizations.
You're totally right, and I apologize for the mishap there! I've gone through and removed those portions of the video. Thanks so much for pointing it out.
@@HeliocentricOfficial you are correct about FBI activities. The FBI went to portal Drive in Northwest Washington DC where the business is conducted for this organization. They’ve had a couple visits from the FBI. There’s a whole business side that is not googalable… and I’m a UHOP member that resided in DC for some years
To tell you the truth, I'm missing Bishop Bullwinkle.😒
yeah. you got a few things wrong in this one. the sunday collections are tithes, house offering, g class, and love gift. the tickets are for g class. that's the national contribution but broken down by individual members. the sponsor of the raffle is required to have the prize money prior to the raffle. the reason the collection is announced is for transparency and to let people know their contribution is appreciated. house offering is counted at the collection table and announced right then and there. if it is a small amount, the amount is not announced-- only that the person did so. house offering is counted at the collection table and announced right then and there. you have to remember that the house of prayer is completely self sustaining. million dollar edifices require a lot of donations. that's why there's pressure to raise a certain amount. also, you may not have noticed but there is a picture of black jesus on the wall of every house. it is a requirement and there is a penalty for not having it up. it may be on a side wall, but it's there.
Precious ... Daddy... Cunningham...? arrggghhhhh
the first 16 seconds had me dying
Sweet daddy is crazy work 😭🤣😭
