I enjoyed your review of the Sennheiser PX 100-II. They produce excellent audio response even at moderate volume levels. Speaking of volume levels; I wish you would mention the dangers of listening to audio too loudly. I’m paying for it dearly now at age 53 with incurable tinnitus. Imagine hearing a high-pitch whistle all of the time, day and night! Incidentally, the human ear hears more detail at moderate levels. In other words, you’ll hear more pleasing detail at low to moderate volume.
Excellent! I love it when I hear from other people that have other headphones they've sampled for comparison sake. Thanks for sharing! I've been dying to try out the 225's...my SR80's are pretty outstanding so I can only imagine what those 225's are like!
Well said, love my pair, and your right in every aspect with the quality of sound and punchy bass and how loud they perform. I actually bought these over the PX 200 ii with the noise cancellation extension. I honestly thought the noise cancellation is rubbish and the loudness and sound quality on the PX 200ii compared to the PX 100 ii was a major difference. The 100`s are punchy and loud, the 200`s lack punch and dont get very loud even on max volume. So i went with the 100`s
Awesome - I appreciate it. I actually am going to try and get some of the higher end Senn's to test out. I've owned a few of their products in the past and have always been happy with them. Also, I appreciate the feedback.
Your last comment was very interesting - I've actually noticed as I get older I find myself turning the music down simply because I can focus in on different parts of the music because my brain isn't overwhelmed with "noise". I'm sorry to hear about your hearing loss - I'm actually worried about that from my younger years when I used to "boom" around everywhere. I have been thinking about doing some vids on basic information so I might drop a little thing in there about that. Thanks for sharing
I'm going to buy them. This was the kind of review I was looking. Now I'm fully convinced. This headset will be a gift for my wife. Thanks for the review and keep up the good work!
I had my original PX-100's for quite some time and never had a problem with them. Those I didn't baby but I didn't just horrendously abuse either and they held up with no problem. While they look small and flimsy, they're actually pretty durable.
I didn't have my PX100's to compare these to (I had destroyed the cable over years worth of forgetting they were on my head and standing up to walk away)...but, from memory, they were very similar. Both made me enjoy listening to the music.
I still use a pair of the original px100, and when I went to replace them I found out there were all kinds of counterfeits out there. Crazy. Now I just keep repairing my originals. Love them. Cant' find anything as good.
These actually do a very nice job on all those genres - up to a point. It really depends on how loud you like to listen. If you like to listen moderately loud, these sound great. However, if you're one of those people that like to listen at ear bleeding volumes, these begin to muddy and distort a bit. But for most people, these sound great on just about every genre all the way up to moderately loud.
great review, I found it really useful. bought the px 100-ii and have to agree on everything that was said in the video. great set of light, very portable travel headphones
Honestly, I haven't tried many on ears that would be good for jogging that don't have the ear clips on them. I would check out the SHS5200 - I think that's along the lines of what you're looking for. Just google them or plug that into Amazon and you'll see what I'm talking about. Those are both "on-ear" and have clips built in to keep them on.
I would say these do great with most genres, including heavy metal. To me the highs were satisfying and not fatiguing - now granted I listen at moderate to moderately loud levels most of the time so if you like to go louder, then maybe they would be, but I didn't notice them being fatiguing at all. These are a great all-around with a fairly small price tag for their relative performance.
Great review and it conforms to my own experiences with this headphone which I have just bought. I was very pleasantly surprised to hear its sound, especially as most of my other headphones are top of the line costing between $500 and $1500. Thanks!
Thanks. Very informative review. I like that you used the words 'Hi Fidelity'. When i look online to buy headphones. I typed in 'High Fidelity' and found next to nothing... When i was younger, we looked for high fidelity products, as these where regarded as the best. Sharp and TDK etc.
Yes, you should be able to play those on a micro system without a problem - worst case scenario is they just won't be powerful enough to drive whatever you're listening to. But if the micro-system has a headphone out jack, then don't worry, your PX-100 II's should be easily driven without a problem. Thanks for checking back in with your thoughts on them! I personally liked them as well!
Always well-done and helpful reviews. It seems that Sennheiser makes very high-quality headphones. I'm looking into purchasing the HD700's in the future, but need to upgrade my desktop gear (DAC, amp, music files, etc). Once I'm ready to purchase, I'll go through your affiliate link.
Wow. I really don't know. I have the originals, but I've got a short in the cable that I need to try and fix at some point. I've already sent the newest versions back, but I thought they sounded beautiful - and this coming from a guy who is typically listening to headphones that are much more money. Just as an aside - the first version of the headphones is what got me started down this path of loving headphones! They were incredible, but the PX-100ii's were excellent as well.
I used to have the px 100. When I had a cable fault I got the px 100-ii, because I loved the sound of the original px 100. I can say that the sound of the px 100-ii is identical to the sound of the px 100.
I would say that the bass on these are slight above normal - just a bit boosted over regular levels. I didn't find them overpowering in the bass department at all.
px 100 was literally the best pair of headphones I've ever owned... even better than the more expensive full size sennheiser headphones that I've bought definitely gonna have to try these out
I will give my review as I had two pairs of these, not these, the IIi which comes with remote control in the cord. Nothing absolutely to complain about the sound, design, or price. My only complain is about the plug. In both pairs the plug stopped working properly and I had to replace it in both units. Besides that it's a great set of headphones and like the reviewer said, they have very clear and deep sound. Thanks!
Thanks for the review. I've been looking for a lightweight set and trust you and Tyll from Innerfifelity very much. You both highly recommend them so I'm going to get them. I also purchased the Fiio E11 based on your review and couldn't be more pleased. Thanks for your reviews and keep them coming!
Sennheiser PX100 II is an excellent pair of headphones! They're asily driven and deliver warm detailed audio. I refer to “warm” as meaning that they remind me subbstantial floor-standing HI-FI speakers, and they’re comfortable too. I am so impressed with these, that I immediately bought a spare set. With reasonable care, these should last many years. Incidentally, I own Grado SR-225 and RS1 headsets. That said, I know decent sound when I hear it. Wayne
I've not had a chance to check out the HD25's yet. I would imagine they're going to be better than the PX-100-ii's. From what I've read and heard about the HD25's they are more of an audiophile type sound. The PX100-ii's are a lively sounding, fun headphone that doesn't quite have the resolution and detail of a true audiophile set of cans. They sound great and are fun to listen to for sure though. Also, you'll want to consider portability - the HD25's don't fold down or anything like that.
Nice review. Was looking at these online and decided to see some video reviews. Used your amazon link in the description and should have mine by Monday. I'll let you know what I think of them.
One must listen carefully to very hi-fi recordings to hear the differences in the SR80, SR125, SR225, and even the SR325. Get the SR225! I couple my PX 100-II with an Apple iPod 5th gen, but I despise Apple’s music player. Its equalizer only has presets to tailor the audio and none of them suit my tastes. I discovered an app called EQu. It’s a graphic equalizer that interfaces with the music library on the iPod and provides intricate adjustments in EQ. Orgasmic audio is on tap with the two!
If you turn the volume up too much on these, they start getting a little "busy", but at moderately loud listening levels I don't think it'd really be a problem.
I own PX 80 and it's been 4 years since I bought this headphone and let me tell you, I absolutely love these even now. I love the base, clarity and overall quality. But now I really wanna upgrade these(only because I'm having a wire problem) and for me, PX 100 ii would be the best choice and I'd rather get PX 100 ii than PX 200 ii.
Hello. Your review was great help. I actually bought one of these lase sunday and I'm really amazed plus you are right.... I'm wondering now about how good music will become if I have those M50's soon hehe Thanks again, I like your reviews. Keep up the good work.
My px100i is losing all it's foam now, so i need new ones. I really liked the sound, so I want to buy another PX100. My only concern is if the ii would fit in the case of the i, since this one comes with only a bag. I really liked the case of the i.
Thanks. I read reviews about px100II and while some experts think bass is a bit to bold, others posted that their input is more neutral, with more balanced sound (compared with px100)... some users don't like added bass, some are fascinated with stronger bass and more detailed sound... Whatever, which 'category' px100II, actually, belong- 'heavy bass' or 'normal'?
Finally- I bought them! This headphones really sound great! In comparison with my sony mdr xd200 (full size) px 100 II have a slightly stronger bas, but, more clear. All sounds are clearer and more detailed. Nice. btw, Can I put them in some micro hi-fi system or cd radio cassette player (instead of ipod or mp3 player) and listen music (with same quality) without risk to damage them? Thanks
One of the best headphones I ever bought, and I know headphones, I owned a Sennheiser HD598, I own a Byerdynamic DT770 studio headphone too so I know what's good quality. The punch is realy good, for your MP3 player a must, overall too much quality for a low price and who cares about sound leaking?
Yes, you'll have to crank your music up really loud to block out the noise, and then they'll all hear what you're listening to. They're ok in an office if there's others around you and you plan on listening low, but anything else will be distracting for you and others.
my px-100 ii just busted :( i loved it so much, very neutral sound and the bass is just right. thinking of getting a sennheiser HD 449, or a Marshall Major Headphone, what do you guys think?
Awesome man - thanks for the feedback! I'm going to check out the EQu app...while your'e at it, look at the Denon app in the app store (free) - it's also fantastic and works like the EQu you described...
Hmm..alright. And can you please tell me difference between px 80 and px 100? Because px 80 is a lot cheaper and the specifications seem to be very much similar to px 100ii. So in which aspects does px 100 have an advantage over px 80?
Hi there! Have you tried the Koss PortaPro? I hope you can make a review on that and compare it to this Seinheisser px100-ii because they are the same on their specs, they are both open type headphones and Koss Portapro is much cheaper than this. I just don't have any idea which of the two would have a better sound quality.
Sir....first of all thanks a lot for providing this great detailed review for this product. can u plz give me some further idea between choosing PX-100 II OR Apple new earbuds for my HTC one S. Is there some gap in respect of the sound quality in ur opinion?
Hi, thx for sharing the review. i am confused between the Sennheiser px100-2 and HD 250, plz help me in choosing the right one. my basic requirement is it should be be portable and have better external noise cancellation....
I don't remember if I commented back on this or not...if I have, sorry, but here goes anyways. If you're looking for external noise cancellation, you should just mark the PX100-ii's off your list. They don't block out any noise and they don't keep any in either. I've not heard the HD 250's so I can't give you any feedback on those but definitely do not buy the PX100-ii's if you're looking to isolate.
thinking of buying it but could you tell me how it sounds with latest video games? i heard the bass is kind of overwhelming which is not very good for game sounds.
My Bad!! I thought I was replying to a CX headphones comment! No, the PX100's wouldn't work for jogging! Sorry - that was my mistake. I just removed that comment because it was completely wrong. The PX100's wouldn't stay on your head if you ran anywhere with them! Now, onto your other question, the PX80 - I've not tried these out. But what I can tell you is every set of headphones out there have their own unique sound - whether the specs are the same, the sound will likely be different.
I tried to test this headphone.. it really surprised me.. the sound beats my sennheiser HD 220 adidas.. but I dont like the earpad.. it's not fully covered the ear.. if you could suggest what headphone have the sound quality and price like this, but with a better earpad..?
No problem - like I said, they're like a gateway drug to higher end cans. Once you try these, you're going to start wondering...well how much better can it be...and then, you're hooked
Hey thanks for the great review, very detailed! I'm stuck between these ($70 @ canada computers) and the HD439's ($50 @ best buy). I'd be using them mostly at home on my desktop, so portability isn't paramount. Sound quality is obviously the most important feature, and I wouldn't be opposed to buying a $20-$25 headphone amp if it would make a noticeable difference in quality and bass response. Just wondering if you've had a chance to listen to the 439's and if so, how would you compare the two?
I don't like listening loud either, but what I do listen to however, is a LOT of black, death, thrash, power and heavy metal. Currently I have the sennheiser cx 300 II, the akg k321 and the audio-technica ck400i and all three of them are very harsh and fatiguing towards the high end, which is extremely annoying. If you have the time, please give them a shot with Storytime - Nightwish and send me some feedback about how well they cope with the electric guitar highs. Thanks a bunch :)
How would these compare with the Sennheiser HD-25 1-ii's? I have the PX-100's and I'm looking for an upgrade, with slightly better lows, and more detail all around, but I nice balanced sound. Would the 25 1-ii's offer this? I have been wondering about them, the V-Moda M80's, and the new M100's but after countless reviews of the new M100's, I may have changed my mind
I know how these sound because my brother has a pair. I'm thinking of getting a CX 300-II. I know it's sorta off comparing on ears with in ears but I just wanna know about the audio details. Is the CX 300-II As detailed as this?
I had a pair and loved it. Now I want to buy another one but they are not in production anymore :( Do you know of any similar head phones still available ?
I'm still using my 100 II's and I've tried Porta's on and off. Sound quality is comparable but I find PX's to be much more comfortable. Unfortunately, Sennheiser have stopped making the 100's so I'd consider Porta Pro a good equivalent.
Your video does absolute justice to these pair. I now own my second pair of these and love hearing music on then every second. Great review!
Excellent! I love it when I hear from other people that have other headphones they've sampled for comparison sake. Thanks for sharing! I've been dying to try out the 225's...my SR80's are pretty outstanding so I can only imagine what those 225's are like!

Thanks for sharing - same thing I felt about them. They really are a fine set of headphones, especially for the price.
I'm going to buy them. This was the kind of review I was looking. Now I'm fully convinced. This headset will be a gift for my wife. Thanks for the review and keep up the good work!
I SAW THIS VIDEO AFTER I BOUGHT ONE. i did not know the headphone can play rock and metal like that.. best review on youtube.
Awesome man! Good to see you back on here!

I've not tried them yet but I would like to get my hands on a set. I'll see what I can do in the somewhat near future.
I would say that the bass on these are slight above normal - just a bit boosted over regular levels. I didn't find them overpowering in the bass department at all.
px 100 was literally the best pair of headphones I've ever owned... even better than the more expensive full size sennheiser headphones that I've bought
definitely gonna have to try these out
Yes, I've got a review of the CX300-ii's coming as well so hopefully they'll send me the 449's or maybe even some of the 600 series soon!
I will give my review as I had two pairs of these, not these, the IIi which comes with remote control in the cord. Nothing absolutely to complain about the sound, design, or price. Nicely done review. Will consider this when I buy this headphone... Thanks! keep up the nice reviews man.
Got these last year, great sound for £40! Love them!!
I bought these today, and I think they are great. The sound is amazing

Great review, hope you get the sennheiser HD 449 soon and if you can get the HD 429 and 439 that would be awesome
I've not had a chance to check out the HD25's yet. I would imagine they're going to be better than the PX-100-ii's. Nice review. Was looking at these online and decided to see some video reviews. Used your amazon link in the description and should have mine by Monday. I'll let you know what I think of them.
really nice sound on these headphones and suprisingly sturdy. many complaints in the office about sound leakage though.
HappyJack These are open-back headphones so sound leak is very normal
One must listen carefully to very hi-fi recordings to hear the differences in the SR80, SR125, SR225, and even the SR325. Get the SR225! Awesome - thanks Deron. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Thanks and it's great to hear you're enjoying the PX's. They are a great set to get you ready to burn all your hard earned money! :-)
I own PX 80 and it's been 4 years since I bought this headphone and let me tell you, I absolutely love these even now. I love the base, clarity and overall quality. Congrats on the find and thanks!
I suggest getting a pair of Grado SR60i as a starter audiophile.
I actually find them pretty great, comparable to my ATH m50x, just not as wide of a sound stage but do great job for the price.
I've not tried the 439's but I have tried the 449's and I would get the PX100-ii's personally - I honestly think they sound better than the 449's.
cool. thanks for the feedback. I'm buying one of these.

I try! Thanks!

Okay. Thank you so much!
great review thanks man, i hope i like them as much as you did
my px-100 ii just busted :( i loved it so much, very neutral sound and the bass is just right. thinking of getting a sennheiser HD 449, or a Marshall Major Headphone, what do you guys think?
Excellent info. thanks for sharing!
Awesome man - thanks for the feedback! I'm going to check out the EQu app...while your'e at it, look at the Denon app in the app store (free) - it's also fantastic and works like the EQu you described...
LOL - you made me go back and watch that portion - awesome! I caught them before they hit the ground though! :-)
Are these good with heavy metal. How are the highs, are they harsh and fatiguing?
i love your videos, please do a review on shure se215
I want headphones with a natural sound reproduction. Which of these are closer to this- px100 (old model) or 100 II ?
Sir....first of all thanks a lot for providing this great detailed review for this product.
can u plz give me some further idea between choosing PX-100 II OR Apple new earbuds for my HTC one S. Is there some gap in respect of the sound quality in ur opinion?
Hi, thx for sharing the review. i am confused between the Sennheiser px100-2 and HD 250, plz help me in choosing the right one. my basic requirement is it should be be portable and have better external noise cancellation....

I've not heard the HD 250's so I can't give you any feedback on those but definitely do not buy the PX100-ii's if you're looking to isolate.
Not quite as detailed but still a fun listen - the CX-300's are quite a bit more bass heavy than the PX-100's...
thinking of buying it but could you tell me how it sounds with latest video games? i heard the bass is kind of overwhelming which is not very good for game sounds.
Thanks very much for the kind words. I'll always give my honest opinions!
One more thing. Is the performance of px 100 ii really poor in crowded places?
I used mine for 7 years and now are broken...
Why all the new headphones are giant?
I want something similar to px 100-ii.
Any idea? TY
Thank you for the info!
Last question :P Is the difference huge? And what would you recommend? regardless of being an on ear or in ear.
Can you do a review on the Koss Portapros please? I heard they are really good. Thanks!
For the price I did enjoy the CX-300's. If you're into bassy music, then you'll likely enjoy them.
I tried to test this headphone.. it really surprised me.. the sound beats my sennheiser HD 220 adidas..
but I dont like the earpad.. it's not fully covered the ear..
if you could suggest what headphone have the sound quality and price like this, but with a better earpad..?
so what would you suggest for an on ear headphones that is good for jogging?
How this compares with some standard in-ear pair in terms of sound (especially bass) and comfort?
No problem - like I said, they're like a gateway drug to higher end cans. Once you try these, you're going to start wondering...well how much better can it be...and then, you're hooked
These might be exactly what I need for work to listen on PC and not block out co-workers and boss!! Thanks.
Show me how to replace new ear cushion pads? Where can i get the new cushion pads? Thanks
Would you say its the same sound quality as the px 100 or better
very informative, thanks for the info
Had these for a year now and only one ear works but very crackly and abad quality
I had a pair and loved it. Now I want to buy another one but they are not in production anymore :( Do you know of any similar head phones still available ?
I just bought them on sale at B and H.
Is this headphone better than hd 219 ,for hard rock/blues/tecno ?
Thanks
Do the Px 80 and Px 100 have the same ear pad sizes? I lost my px 80 ear pad and can't get any.
Had these for a year now , only one eR
great review man! Do you prefer this one or the koss porta pro?
I'm still using my 100 II's and I've tried Porta's on and off. Sound quality is comparable but I find PX's to be much more comfortable. Unfortunately, Sennheiser have stopped making the 100's so I'd consider Porta Pro a good equivalent.
These are really good for the price!
Absolutely - they're like the gateway drug to higher end headphones! :-) Be careful, it's not too hard to become addicted!
