    I was a little disappointed to realize this is only a four voice recreation at first, but then I realized I'd only use this as a studio tool anyway, so I can just record both high and low voices separately. Might not be ideal when automating, but it's a hell of a lot better than paying $2,000.00 for an original Juno-60.

    Why oh why Roland? WHY?! ffs why can the external clock in on the JU-06a work with the step sequencer but NOT the ARPEGIATOR? Why? are you nuts? The SH-01a ext clock works with arp & sequencer. The Original Juno 6, Juno 60, Jupiter 4, 6 & 8, the SH-101, all of these had arpegiators that clock synced via the external clock in via a drum machine trigger. Why build in a arpeggiator section that is hugely prominent on the front panel and the marketing, then build an external clk input, and not use in for the arp. Utter insanity. I want an answer. Anyone got an answer for me?

    Great demo, thanks! Though to me the Arturia Jun-6 V sounds way more authentic and alot closer to my old Juno-60. Shame with the 4 polyphony. And weird choice from Roland really.

    Size, sound, usability, affordability & Portability. Boutiques and Volcas sell like hot cakes because of these factors. Thank God for them. Save so much space but a lot of fun. Love the TR-08 & SH01a. TB-03 not so convincing. Will get a JU-06a. Still love the Volca Bass, Keys. Lots of sound character. Arturia Microbrute is also a mini marvel.

    • @rolandknaap3577

      can you tell me, is there something the volca keys can do that the ju06a can't? I am thinking about buying one of those as my first synth..........

    • @volt7cooltangs701
      @volt7cooltangs701 4 роки тому +1

      Roland Knaap , well the Volca keys has real analogue VCO oscillators and if you put the Keys in unison mode and turn the detune knob halfway you can get this amazing synth lead sound that sounds just like a Moog Polymoog as used on the Gary Numan Tubeway Army 1979 UK Hit record Are “Freinds” Electric? That gritty lead sound is massive from such a small box, the JU-06a can’t do that. It can try, it can get close but the 3 gritty, dirty analogue oscillators in the Keys trump the JU-06a as an old school synth lead instrument. So there’s that. Otherwise the JU-06a is marvellous and very versatile and sounds great at Juno sounds, has memories too. I’d get both. The volca keys as a first synth is a very good choice.

    • @maccagrabme
      @maccagrabme 4 роки тому +1

      @@rolandknaap3577 The Volca is true analog whereas the Roland ju06a is modelled analog and is digital. The Roland is for those wanting the specific Juno sound which some people love and some loathe. With the chorus on it really does sound nice but take the chorus off and its pretty ordinary. You cant go wrong with the Volca at the price but it wont give you the sound of a Juno.

  • @korbly
    @korbly 5 років тому +18

    I've seen a lot of people mad at the fact that this doesnt have 6 voices like the original, but realistically? Look at other 6 voice synthesizers currently for sale- let's take the DSI/Sequential OB-6 and Prophet 6. Those retail for nearly $3000. In this package, Roland is offering all of the same functionality of a Juno synth, for $400, when original Junos (6 & 60) are currently on sites like Reverb for $1000-3000. Also given this demo and what I know the Junos to sound like, this isnt far off. I just feel like it's a bad take to argue over voices when the same/similar effect can be achieved using less, and is certainly cheaper. It's like using a skylight to light up a room- sure, its bright and does the job, but do you need that much? Not really.

      Just buy a used System-8 for 900€ and you have a much better deal. 8 voices of Juno, Jupiter, JP-X3 and the S8 itself with good keybed, tons of knobs and a great polyphonic sequencer.

      This thing is digital. You dont need to put real oscilators, filters and envelopes into it to ad 2 voices. You just need to ad some code and maybe a bit of cpu power if it is the case. Clearly roland's marketing thing to split their products.

    • @WxkR
      @WxkR 5 років тому +6

      I agree in that people criticize Roland too much, too fast, but I see justification here. First, previous boutique models were criticized for exactly the same reason: why only four voices when it’s just a matter of programming? This is not an analog synth! (So your comparison to the OB-6 and the Prophet is not helpful]. Secondly, at this point in history, $400 for a digital mini-synth sounds expensive enough to not offer what consumers imagine should be a fully-featured synth, being this an emulation, it should offer the same features of the original and more. The high price point guarantees that anything that can be taken as a “miss” will be taken as a miss and criticized. Ultimately, I think this release is being taken, at least by some, as a confirmation of Roland’s reputation of not caring about clients. Whether true or not, people are not happy about it.
