I just got my first parrots (and first pets!) in about 18 years, a little over a month ago. They are by no means what I'd call parrots with a capital "P" (a budgie and two Bourke's parakeets), but they are absolutely precious to me. Birds are incredible, intelligent and adorable creatures, but they are not easy to care for properly and require a lot of time and patience, as well as potentially major lifestyle changes. I wouldn't change my decision though, not at all! I'm thankful for people like you and other bird owners who care about helping people decide if a bird is really right for them, and are vocal about training and engaging your birds; giving them the life they deserve. Thanks for all you do!
0:28 that's probably because first of all, we can all hear how passionate you are and your videos are nice, informative plus interesting! It all makes a very good thing to listen to :3
I spoke w/ you over the summer about your video on Parrot Mtn. Park in TN. I a wonderful time a month ago there. Thanks for your texts & the video that got me there!
I've been wanting a parrot since I was 8! I'm yet to move out of my house for now, and I still have so much to learn, but I'm really willing to put in thew work to get one!!
This is a wonderful video! I'm currently prepping to adopt, narrowing down species! I've been looking for species that tend towards being more confident around strangers, and more active, as I hope to one day train it for educational seminars! This is the culmination of nearly four years of research, and both you and BirdTricks have helped so much! As for types, I've narrowed it down so far to an Amazon, macaw, African parrot, (Jardines, Senegal) or conure! Crossing my fingers and thanking you all the way!
I've kept a general list of species that will work in my household, as I plan to rescue and the individual personality will be far more important than species.
The pet store I got my Quaker from would feed all their birds fruit and veg and pellets, would visit breeders to see their birds before selling them, and provided a care sheet and free aftercare for their customers, that's the sort of thing that made me feel confident about buying from them.
I’ve been researching about various types of parrots that I’ve wanted for over 5 years now and my mom is finally letting me get one and I’m adopting an alexandrine parakeet named Tiki he’s adorable!
I watched your channel and researched about 6 months before getting a parrot. Ended up with a Senegal named Niko. We made the commitment and I'm so glad we got him. He has a good size cage and tons of toys. Hes an acrobat and hes worth all the mess and noise! Love him!
i've been researching cockatiels for about a year now and haven't gotten one yet because i want to give my cockatiel the best life. can't wait to get one!!
ive watched nearly all of this guys videos and ohhhh my god they're so amazing. I dont even have a parrot yet, and his videos have prepared me sooooo well! Thanks Michael!
I'm glad you're telling people these things, most people don't know how much is involved, but every moment is worth it! Btw, I just got my mister today and he enjoyed it very much! He likes water anyway he can get it! Lol thanx for the toy too! Excellent purchase for my bird!
Hi Michael, in uk where i live, we don't have bird stores, no rescues we can visit, so our only option was to use a breader. I have 2 Tiels and i was lucky to find a senegal breader. We had to use a courier, poor baby. He is 4mnths old and thriving. Breader harness trained him but ive had to take a step back untill he trusts me fully. Love your videos
I want a parrot and putting money away for one. I would love to work in a rescue. I'd love to learn more info. I have tons of questions. About money, handling, bird reading and everything else I don't know. How much do they cost on average a month? A lot of rescues won't let you adopt on unless you have 5 years or more experience with certain birds. Which is honorable and very responsible of the rescue to do that. I love birds, all beds. My favorite is an umbrella cockatoo. I love sun conores and red headed Amazons. I want to learn the basics of everything and decide what's right based on how it makes me feel later. I even like parakeets. Hmm the decisions are endless but I need to definitely need more education!
Hi Michael, your book is a great read! I learned a lot and will get two little recently born baby Red Bellied Parrots. So some far cousins of Kili ^^ I had 4 budgies years ago and loved all of them. I really miss to have such great pets and looking forward to mine. :) Btw. what happened to your lovely little Budgie Duke? I hope he is OK. If you still have him, I would love to see some new videos with him.
I own 2 African Greys. I love them to death. I also happen to work from home and am able to look after them for many, many hours per day, everyday. I personally would not recommend people to get a parrot UNLESS they have the time to look after them well. They are NOT cage animals (by cage animal, I mean they stay in the cage for practically 24 hours a day). They are not a toy, they are live animals that require constant, constant care. Please consider this before making this life long decision.

I have the time and money to properly care for a parrot but ever since people said their bites are painful, i have been afraid of their beaks and this is witholding me from buying one.
If you learn to take care of them and train them properly, bites should be infrequent and even rare. However, it takes a lot of knowledge, time, and effort to befriend them and teach them so they wouldn’t bite. You can start by following the free resources from ParrotWizard.com and better yet read ParrotWizard.com/Book to see if having a parrot is right for you and if you are up for doing what it takes to get them not to bite. The good news is that if you meticulously follow the steps I outline, you can work on building a relationship with that bird (whether a baby or an adult) without going through a lot of bites in the process.
I'd rather let my birds have freedom to go outside for fresh air and potty outside as wild birds. During winter time, teach and have them potty in the toilet while standing on the edge of the stool. Or teach them to use cat litter. But I would prefer to have them use the toilet to make the cleaning up easy; I only have to flush it for them. Edited: I would love to have the birds keep me busy. Give me an actual reason to have something to live for.
I'm so desperate to get a macaw. Like I literally told me dad I would be willing to go to America and ride back with a car to Canada. But I think the bird will die I think car....:

Do you have Parrot Health Insurance? If so what one is best?
I've got a macaw as my first bird but it's been 21 years with me and he healthy and fine but expensive 🤣🤣

@@vx.r4465 yeah that's a normal price the person sold it so cheap because he could t take care of him

I want a African grey parrot but it's expensive
Is parrot expensive?
Birds bite when wings not clipped. They get very aggressive. 🦅. They can still fly when wings are clipped. They glide to ground.
Gliding isn't flying
The opposite. Clipped birds often become aggressive and pluck their feathers
I have three dogs five parets two cats and one alagater
im getting parrort
Did he just say that of ur gonna go to university soon you might not want a pet that lives for 50 HUNDRED YEARS???????
I'd rather let my birds have freedom to go outside for fresh air and potty outside as wild birds. During winter time, teach and have them potty in the toilet while standing on the edge of the stool. Or teach them to use cat litter. But I would prefer to have them use the toilet to make the cleaning up easy; I only have to flush it for them.
Edited: I would love to have the birds keep me busy. Give me an actual reason to have something to live for.
I don't know why anyone would want to clip a birds wings, I would not feel good about giving and animal every option to protect themselves.
In my language kili = parrot
I'm so desperate to get a macaw. Like I literally told me dad I would be willing to go to America and ride back with a car to Canada. But I think the bird will die I think car....:
