Jensen is a super skilled actor, and watching him flex as different variations of Dean or monsters-as-Dean is always amazing. And yes, here for the fan service. 😂
I really liked that this episode was the beginning of the FBI going after the Winchesters, I also think a lot if the cast is good at playing other characters, especially Misha because of all the accents he gives them.
I take the eye thing, both with demons and shifters (did it ever happen again after this episode without a camera? I didn't remember you could actually see the eye thing not through a camera) as more of an instinct than as a "look at me, I'm scary". Kind of like a blink. you can blink controllably, but it also sometimes slip up when you don't mean to. and with the sifter, it's literally a blink, just sideways, like some animals. so I really believe that at least with shifters, that's the intention. but yes, you are right- it is very inconsistent.
Love this episode! I really like the take on a different kind of shapeshifter. Not just a lookalike. I always thought that they threw this out early to help explain why the boys aren't really on the law's radar even though their escapeds ramp up. I'm now doing a watch along with you btw! Totally agree that Jensen nails the DoppleDeaner vibe. Their fighting doesn't even have the same cander as the rest of the series or even the fight they had in episode 1. I'll be honest- I totally didn't think doppelganger at first. I thought it was just the "muggle" view of Dean having "done some work" on a demon/monster. I keep forgetting that this is the FIRST season- WAY before so much lore and gritty actions were established. Awesome video bud! Keep it up! 🍻
I really like the "muggle" take. While that wasn't my instinct, I could totally see that being a thing - and would have been a really interesting episode, because let's be honest, the boys look REALLY suspicious without context.
This is my ranking of the entire first season from worst to best. I lean more towards story, character development, and especially foreshadowing to the other Kripke era seasons, intentional or not. I am also a life-long slasher fan so that might come into play. Route 666 The Benders Something Wicked Bugs Skin Dead in the Water Wendigo Provenance Phantom Traveler Asylum Bloody Mary Hookman Pilot Dead Mans Blood Faith Salvation Hell House Devils Trap Home Scarecrow Shadow Nightmare
Good episode, yet it doesn't resonate with me as much as it seems to do with others. I do like the call back to Sam's college days and the friends he has now lost. The shapeshifter shedding his skin and the sewer scenes were well done.

Yeah I'd actually forgotten that they got on the radar of the authorities so early!
I was wondering if you were Canadian but then you said 'sorry' so now i know 😂
