- I have been told that Czech Republic is the most atheists country in the world for people not believing in God. In this video we go on a holy adventure to a place called Svatý Hostýn on the search for the answer: Why are Czechs the most atheists people in the world? Svatý Hostýn is one of the most famous Holy places in Czech. It is an important Marian place of pilgrimage. The pilgrimage comes from a legend that describes a miracle made by the Virgin Mary of how she appeared on the top of the hill, send the storm and lightening to burn nearby camp of war enemies. This place has history also known to be a place where religious people visit to worship God and see the journey of his life. While I was there I visited the restaurant for traditional Czech food and went to the markets. I came across the pastor and other people who gave me their opinion why they think the Czech people are atheist.

I know this is an older video, but the oplatki is ceremonial. You would break a piece of that on holidays with your family sharing each other's piece, in a place like that. So you break one piece, say your wife, son or daughter would break their piece, you eat the other person's piece hug and kiss them and give them best wishes for prosperity and good luck and tell them you love them. This is usually done on Xmas dinner among an entire family or on new years, and definitely Easter - or amongst strangers at religious sites like the place you're at or in the church. Love your videos just wanted to clarify why you don't like it, it's not a snack, it's symbolic as in breaking blessed bread with loved ones.

I am a big of fan of yours and have a very good recommendation for you.😁 I was exploring the northern region of ustí nad labem and came across this beautiful village near the border to Germany 🇩🇪. It’s called dolní Poustevna.😊 they have a great restaurant called chili’s 🌶, where you should definitely get the vepřova panenka.😋 There they also have good beer 🍺 and slivovice 😉. If you want to see the best dřevěnice, you should have a walk to horní poustevna. They also have slepice there🐓. I and many of your followers would very much enjoy if you’d make a UA-cam video out of your visit!!! 🤩👍

Jsem rád, že jsme nejvíc nevěřící stát. Spoléhat se na nějakého svatého tam nahoře mi fakt nevyhovuje. Naopak budu věřit sám v sebe a v lidi, které mám rád.
Osobně jsem agnostik, ale nepovažuju fakt, že jsme nejvíce nevěřící za něco extra pozitivního. Ta víra dává lidem jakýsi kodex dobrosrdečnictví. Z vyprávění od kamaráda jsem se nestačil divit, jak jsou lidé na blízkém východě pohostinní a otevření. Tady u nás nevěříme pomalu ani sami sobě natož lidem jiných ras a kultur. Takže ono to má + a -
Ľudská duša pochádza od Boha, takže ak veriš sam v seba, veriš zaroveň aj v Boha 😉

@@RevanSK Podľa ľudských skutkov by malo byť jasné že ľudia, alebo nemajú dušu, alebo ju majú od dákeho zloducha. Odkedy sme na tejto zemi NIČÍME a ZABÍJAME všetko, čo sa len dá. Sme prírodná pohroma. Zrejme nás boh stvoril na obraz diabla.

One hypothesis I heard that the forced re-Catholization in the 1600s turned Czechs off religion. Who knows. It is true that Hus and the Hussites were quite zealous in the 1400s.

You have not been in Krkonoše yet? You should really visit it in your future videos. Really beautifull mountains and nice hiking and skiing there. I have many nice memories since I was a kid and my kids even learned skiing there (we always stayed in Vrchlabí). I was raised in the Netherlands, but my grandparents (my mom is Czech) lived in Prague-Dejvice where I spent many holidays since the 70's. I love your videos and the way you adapt to Czech live and language. My favorit beer is Kozel and drink is Becherovka. Our local liqour store keeps it even specially in stock for me.
I have pretty similar experinces but i grew up in germany and my parents took me 2/3 times a year on a holiday to visit my family in czechia. Ive learned skying on papresek and we went there like 20 years in a row hahaha
Česko je sice nejateističtější země světa, ale to se týká náboženství. Zhruba půlka lidí z Česka vždycky řekne, že věří v nějakou nespecifikovanou vyšší moc (např. že máme napsaný svůj osud atd.). Takže je to takové zapeklité.
.. a ta druhá půlka věří na horoskopy, homeopatii, kovidové spiknutí a denacifikaci Ukrajiny.

Hey there! I think we don't believe as much as other countries since our minds are bit of pesimictic. Don't get me wrong, we can be kind, we like to celebrate but as I can see, we tend to be cold to strangers. And I assume this gets well with being pesimistic or realistic. Many Czech people don't hope as much and don't like to put their believes into someone else - We rather work for our dreams and needs. That's probably thanks to our relationships in the past with other countries. So Czechs do not like to put their faith into something bigger, since theres no guarantee it will be fullfiled. We do it on own. Hope, it makes sense. XD

Believing in God is everybody's personal matter....you would have to carry out anonymous survey and give it 10 million Czechs to get the accurate percentage of how many people living in Czechia are religious and how many are not....hahahah It is lovely to see you can speak some Czech and you love Czech food .

I think the main reason behind many people not believing are 1. High degree of scepticism 2. Well rounded education. The second point being the most influential. While there is difference between public schools and private schools, one can still get an excellent education in public schools. They aren't forgotten. Of course, there are many faults in the educational system, but in comparison to the rest of the world, I believe that Czechs put lot of importance on general knowledge. Something that isn't common in the western world. General knowledge and history education is not bad in CR. Until quite late age, pupils learn all subjects without having to choose only couple which they would expect to master. No, they can study it all and choose lot later.
Knowledge of history and sciences, but also religion.. all put together created a country in which people aren't so quick to follow indoctrinated religion. It opens one mind. Knowledge is power. However that being said, I think Czechs aren't necessarily atheists but they are agnostics. Meaning they believe in something out there, but don't follow a religion.
"well rounded education" argument is a complete nonsense. How would you explain the fact that countries with a far superior education systems to Czech Republic, are more religious than us? I agree with the agnosticism aspect.

I´m atheist, but some things are deeper and harder to understand, and no religion in the world can explain it, every person in the world knows it, they call it different names, but we basicly live in simulation and that´s all, so why not make it better, we can make it better just by reprograming it, by our thoughts and actions, there will be day when people will stop thinking evil thoughts, atracting evil, and once most of people stop atract evil there will be no more of it in this little game, I say little because we are seriously on the buttom of hiearchy of this matrix, but as above so bellow, rules never change, there is great thing comming it is called "the event" or "great awakening" and it will be huge

I think Czech republic is an atheist country because of our history of religious conflict.
Religions were replaced very often. Basically veryone who was very religious has been killed because he didn't convert to the new state religion.
We were pretty much catholic until the Hussite wars, then the Catholic Habsburgs came, than anti-catholic Masaryk and Beneš, and then the Communists killed all that was left of the religious people.
People were pretty much scared of believing in any religion because they would have been persecuted by the new rulers with a different religion.

As a former Slovak Christian, then atheist and now Muslim, it's funny that most people think that being an atheist means that they are somehow smart or pragmatic in their belief/non-belief. Just read Nietzche or some other existential philosophers who were "real" atheists and look deeply at the consequences of purely materialistic atheism, which inevitably leads to nihilism or meaningless life. Most Czechs from my experience just want to have good fun and drink beer. They don't really like to discuss God, whether their life is meaningful, or what happens after death. (generally speaking). The question everyone has to answer is, how did this world come to be? Was it just a random event triggered by nothing? Or was there an initial point of intelligence that caused our universe or any other universe to exist? Just being purely pragmatic and logical you can't bet on the randomness :) The ods are just too illogical to bet your life and afterlife on this. Religion is a subcategory of this realization once you come to the conclusion that there is this one thing out there that is literally in control of everything.
Can I ask why did you “migrate” from Christianity to Islam?
@@klajn3448 I changed from atheism to Islam. I was Christian until 15. I changed because God in Islam is the most rational explanation of reality.
I'm a catholic, i agree with some points of your comment.
The world is losing its moral compass, it's a havoc. As a society we seem to be moving backwards, and I believe it's thanks to the lack of 'moral teachings'. Most people have their own god, it's called money and fame, that might be why it's all going downhill.

@@katarinam2434 Agreed. Unfortunately nowadays even Catholics are not much upholding their own values or principles. Maybe on paper but in real life most Christian's have secularized and they don't believe in God's teachings anymore. Just look at how many Christian's live outside of marriage with another partner. Hope it will get better inshallah (God willing)
Assalamualaikum, I agree with your comment. I saw another post in this comment section asking the question “why are people religious?” The easiest answer to this question is that religion, in its basic theology is the belief in a deity (in this case god) The notion of god is ingrained in us since birth, in that a higher power exists. Religion is just a moral compass created by god that guides us with our already existing notion that god exists. Now I’m not a Czech, but as you said, it seems Czechs (not all of them of course) want to take the easy/high life of drinking and chilling out (which exists as well all over the world) rather than obeying and surrendering to god in which they already have a recollection of whom exists. This then leads to nihilism again as you said.
