"Precious Opal" Lyrics-
Would you like to come down to me from your town above the line?
I saw an omen that you were coming and I do believe it's time
Precious Opal, Queen of Gems upon a frozen marquee sign
When you first moved to your room way up on Power Station Hill
And you fell in with a man who had a lunchbox full of pills
I asked for you portfolio but you gave me your high heels
It's deciding when's the last time that's the trouble
It's not over if you plan to try again
And I hope this does not scratch your mirrored surface
Precious Opal, Queen of Gems
Two winters passed and through them both a hurricane did tear
And it sent some strong men running and it threw houses in the air
And it left a shining opal sitting naked in the air
Your front teeth had been damaged in the strangest kind of thing
You chipped them during a frantic delivery of kisses to the king
And you handed me a butterknife and said you were hanging by a string
I went down to a funeral on Salem Street this morning
All the cars in the procession painted white
You know I felt a little bit underdressed but I decided I had to go inside
I asked an old man that was standing by the coroner the name of the man that died
He told me his name but I didn't quite hear him
And I decided that that was alright
Do you remember when we tried to wet the bed all night and you couldn't do it?
I hope this does not scratch your mirrored surface
Precious Opal, Queen of Gems
How many times can you smash the thumbs up button? Cuz I'm hitting it on repeat. I've been a Mother Hipster since '93. I've seen many many shows and they never disappoint. This is one of the best live versions of Precious Opal I've ever seen. The harmonies, the jam, the change in tempo, are all spot on. And I've always loved the lyrics to this song. They paint such an interesting picture in my mind. It's true prose. Bravo boys. Keep up the good work. And please, please come to Colorado as often as possible.
Just hearing this one for the first time and can't believe I'm only the 66th person to like it. Stoked to have tix to see them in Hood River, Oregone on 3/1/24.
Amazingly good!
Greatings from the Netherlands ;-)
Hats off to the sound engineer on this. Superb!
I'm 44 years old, but every time I hear this song I'm whisked away to the Bit & Spur where I'm still 19. My copy of Back to the Grotto has managed to stay on the premises, miraculously. (I wish I could say the same about Shootout.)
Have a great day, gang. ✌️✌️
The smile never left my face...
wow. still bringing it.
The motherhips is like wine.when it first comes in to the stores its popular because it's cheap and gets you fucked up.then you buy a case.throw it in the wine cellar wait a decade then older and wiser you crack open another bottle.a little bit smoother well defined..not bad.then ten years later you open another bottle spit it.this wine taste like fucking vinager.you drink the hole bottle out of respect even thow it's hard to stomach. Ten years later.you dust off another bottle and God dam it's the best wine you ever hsd.
Drinking whiskey and rye in the empty dark as the countertops shift and the lights go out
Who is playing Keys in this band?
