I couldn't agree more! One of the great things of our instrument is how diverse its tone can get. All great players have their own voice and we should be able to enjoy them all, from Holliger to Mayer.
Herrlich!
i was looking for years for an hoboist with the expression of my prof mr. Dombrecht, because I never found this rich expressions again, well, here it is and I really love it! Beautifull hoboist ! nice ensemble too! super! great! go on!!!
J.A.Vives 15-11-2021.
I went to school with Helene Grimaud, and i must say, altough I'm sure many of your focuses will be on the oboe, she really adds the deeply considered soul to the piano part, as I recall from our student days together!
Oboe players cant here music sometimes because we are so involved in to the technical aspect of the oboe.Dark, soft who cares. The point is that he has a musical idea and he is able to express it using his own voice. Plus this is romantic music and its meant to be performed expressive. Every musician has his own vision witch is sometimes based on our own ego. What meters is how far your ideas can take you.Mayer got very very very very very far.
Baz The Tudor this was and will always remain my most favorite piece. I played oboe for 7 years in school, and i was supposed to play it in 10th grade..i was so excited to play this but due to some problems i had to move to another school. Even today i miss playing oboe...i couldn't keep the instrument once i moved..
Thank you for uploading this wonder. @GerardDrozd. Maestro, I agree with you. @omswastyastu1. Nice to hear you were a pupil to Mr Dombrecht. He is one of my favourite oboe players. At least the one of the few I know.
i played this piece when i was a junior in high school. at the time I didn't even know what circular breathing was, and I got a perfect. you just have to have lungs of steel :)

I think the performance was musical and beautiful, but I'd like the oboe to sound more like an oboe rather than an English horn. I just felt the sound as overpowering. I'd like to hear it played a little more subtly and quietly. Needless to say Helne Grimaud is awesome, but I would like the piano to come across a little more subdued. Both magnificent musicians though. I just dont agree with some aspects of the performance. The oboe sound is a little too dark and loud.
I don't play the oboe, but I can't help but notice that, on UA-cam, oboe players are not uncommonly anal in their comments about fellow oboe players. Their willingness to allow interpretive playing is somewhat constricted. Their slights about tone, their quips about breathing and their jealous nature about quality of reed-work makes meI wonder that some of the most critical oboe players do not play the instrument while standing on their heads, playing their woodwind instrument in a windward fashion..

Exécution magistrale... Vous êtes merveilleux!
They are so perfectly matched! You can tell they both love the music passionately.

It's a pure pleasure to listen to such a kind wonderful rendition!
Chapeu, maestro.
Juste i love both of you !!!
Sauberes Zwerchfellvibrato. Übung Ohne Ende Bringt Dieses Instrument So Wundervoll Zum Schwingen. Albrecht Spielt Ohne Zweifel Schon Jahrelang Oboe!
i Love both of you !!
It remains the fact that when your are supported you can make good music.

The best interpretation of this masterpiece!

A lot of professional musicians loose themselves in the the technique, it is way too common for my taste.
meraviglioso!!!!!!!!
This always warms my heart. Just wonderful piano and oboe. Thank you

Mayer toca el oboe magistralmente. Es un virtuoso.

2:22 yeeeah, i made that solo!!! :-D
This is so heavy! technically perfect but no life in it. I feel like musical world is going so bad when i'm listening to these kind of things.
still waiting to hear your correctly played recording of this piece

He didn't breathe from 2:45 to the end! HUH?!
He did breath he breathed when the camera wasn’t facing him
Without circular breathing you can't play this piece. Have fun while practising;)
wtf
U don’t need to circular breathe there r many rests in the music but they r short
But in a way u agree with u

Grimaud being Grimaud and Mayer being Mayer... The interpretation is nice but it's almost a cliché.
