Love Azure!!! Dry milk powder, buttermilk, beans and grains, spices...all cost less than grocery store prices and often get organic for less than non store organic. Example...25 pounds organic black beans is $1.19 lb at Azure. Walmart 1 pound non organic$1.49 lb.

Love it Janey!!! Yes yes yes I agree! I just used the powdered milk the other day from Azure when I was out of milk.. it actually tasted pretty good in a latte I was surprised! And I agree with you, always much less expensive!

I really loved this video, please keep making more of this type of video! Saving, Whole Foods etc. I’ve eaten Whole Foods for years but have been more intentional on sourcing, and raw milk, and from scratch cooking and I feel so much better too!

@@simplemainekitchen5597 I’d love a breakdown of what you plan on buying to stock your pantry. I love grocery hauls which I see you have a few ❤️ but I struggle with buying extra ingredients I end up not using so I’m trying to streamline my go to stocked items. I recently did a pantry challenge and it was a doozy using up random stuff I bought on sale or for a specific recipe lol

I feel like I do many of these things (I shop primarily in bulk, even buying an entire cow at a time, and cook many things from scratch), but my grocery bill is just so astronomical. We are mostly paleo so meat plays a big role in our cooking, and my dogs are on raw meat which saves on vet bills but is just so much meat. I think my problem is that I am now making a lot from scratch, such as breads, tortillas, granolas, etc. but haven't quite cut out the convenience foods from the list. So I'm making stuff from scratch in addition to buying all those same things too. I really need to get to the point of REPLACING those items completely, but that part is tough.

Azure is great. I purchase about 80% of my household needs from Azure then the other 20% I have delivered from Walmart.

I must say, I hear a lot of tips these days that our parents and grandparents did out of necessity, (deep freezer, shop 1/month, bulk, etc.) right down to shopping at Aldi. With all these tips and "hacks" I wonder if ppl have just been carelessly wasteful the last few years. 🤷🏾‍♀️ I'm sure there's so much more to your channel. With your likeable down-to-earth personality, you have yourself a new subscriber, maam!
Btw: when I was Paleoish, I learmed to make comdiments. Great tip!

Yes totally!! I think it's a bummer we try to make everything "convenient"-- we miss out on a lot of joy and better nutrition! Ohh amazing! So smart about the condiments, feel free to send over your favorite recipes if you have any! Thank you for the kind message + subscribing!!

We go several times a week but we only buy what we need. We are retired so time at the grocery store isn't stressful. Also bulk buying isn't good for us. We don't have freezers, multiple, and aren't interested in more freezers.

I hear so many people say going to the store once a month is what they do. How do you go without fresh veggies and fruit. I could never. Organic produce doesn’t last but five or so days

    • @simplemainekitchen5597
      @simplemainekitchen5597  19 днів тому

      Hi Sammie! Great question. :)
      I buy things like:
      -beets
      -carrots
      -potatoes
      -apples
      -lots of winter squash
-Bananas (a few bunches that are almost yellow, and a few bunches that are almost green)
-harder fruit so it will ripen over time
-hard avocadoes + a bag of ripe ones
I eat up fresh lettuce and things towards the beginning of the month! lately in pregnancy I have been going to the store more often and spending more bc I have become allergic to so many things, but when I am in my regular routine and feeling good, this is how I do it. :)
Doing things like this will help your produce stretch a lot longer! There are ways of keeping things longer like cold cellar storage, storing things in crates, etc. that allow things to last longer. I would recommend this book:
      amzn.to/3ZN2is3
It is hands down my fav book for learning how to store/keep items fresh, as well as learning how to preserve.
      Hope this helps!

Also for some people they just don't like this style of shopping, and that's okay too! You could try going twice a month to cut down on your grocery budget, I feel like twice a month really helps too. :) Whatever works best for your home! I personally like the once a month method.

I too live alone and would love to cut the cost of my groceries. The prices in the uk have rocketed over the last year. I try not to waste food and shop with a list but my bill has still doubled in this time.

Ugh yes I know what you mean! Groceries have gotten so expensive... are you able to order in bulk from anywhere around you? I found this website, not sure how good it is. bulksupermarket.com/
You could always try ordering from Amazon as well. Or maybe the Source of Bulk Foods?

Loved this. But what about fresh fruits and veggies? My lettuce never lasts longer than a week and my kids love fresh fruit. Any tips? I always find i have to run back to store cuz I run out of all my fresh food.

    • @simplemainekitchen5597

Yes! I will by fruit at different stages of ripeness, and store it in the fridge (really hard pears will last in the fridge for about a month, as well as apples) and I also will buy a couple bunches of ripe bananas, as well as a couple bunches of green bananas. As for veggies, do your kiddos like things like carrots and avocado and kale?? If so, buy bunches of those items and store properly in the fridge, so you can consume them fresh after eating through your fresh lettuces! Also, store lettuce in a bag with a moist paper towel and they will last much longer!

    • @simplemainekitchen5597

Celery lasts super long as well and is a great snack for kiddos.

Buy stuff at different stages of ripeness. Eat the produce that spoils quicker first. Apples and oranges stay good in the fridge for quite a while. And other fruits like kiwis once they are ripe put them in the fridge and they will last for a while more as they stop ripening in the fridge. Same for avocado's once ripe put them straight into the fridge to keep them at that ripeness for a couple more weeks. Veggies like Carrots and cabbage hold up well. celery, peppers, radishes, beets etc stay fresh quite well too. Frozen veggies are good too, like corn and peas, and veg that is less nice frozen is still good for certain meals like soups. Also some canned/jarred/vacuum packed veg is fine like baby corn, corn on the cob, corn kernels, beetroot, sauerkruat, beans, when it comes to lettuce a head of iceberg will hold up better than a precut bag of lettuce.

Did not enjoy this video. Sounds like she wants to work every hour. She has awake. Not interested in doing so much busy work without buying food
