It's always nice to see Technic sets that explore new types of vehicles and functions. I don't think I'll be getting this, as I'm not interested in boats personally, but I really appreciate that this is not another car with the same few functions.
I love this set. It was one of the most unique sets I’ve built and looks amazing and massive once finished, good functions and also the cherry on top, it’s team New Zealand 🇳🇿
A general suggestion for people who bought this set. Take the vinyl with the jib (that's the smaller sail), roll it tightly and place it within the same box with mainsail vinyl. That way the creases you might have on it (mine come out of the box creased, as did Balash's) will even out and it will stay protected from further ones until you decide to build the set. I really like the set myself, I think the functions are quite accurate, the only thing I'm missing is some sort of rudder mechanism. Thankfully position of the rudder can be at least changed manually, but some sort of additional mechanism would be welcome.
This set is truly wonderful. A lot of hidden features, beautiful design, and quite challenging to assemble. Once assembled, it is truly impressive. I hope Lego releases more similar sailboats, because I think having several together would look even better.
I have a cousin who is an engineer on the Zeeland team, designing the water foils for this yacht. And I actually really like this set, when someone explains to you all the engineering challenges that make this yacht win, you start loving it.
During lockdown August 2021 I broke Jacinda’s rules and went to Campbells Bay on the North Shore from my home a few Ks away. I spoke with a guy there who was trying to get the Sail GP circuit going through Covid etc working for Russell Coutts. He was telling me about the foiling single hulls and how they were going to do it back then. I enjoyed watching the guys win today too. I have been a big fan of the team and was often a marker for them in the Rangi Channel on my kayak fishing when they would practice about 15 years ago.
1:23 I think its just due to the set being branded as "18+", as I have noticed all 18+ Technic sets have extra information in the beginning of the instructions, while non-18+ sets do not really have much about the real-life counterpart, except for a comparison or two with the set.
I would love to get earlier America's Cup yacht classes, like the IACC, 12-metre or J-class, though I think the latter two would make more sense as system-based Icons sets. Fingers crossed though. I also think someone moderately skilled in Technic building could remake this set into IACC boat, with steering system instead of the hydrofoils. I'd like to attempt such thing myself, but I'm just so bad at Technic, sadly.
This is one beautiful final build. The error on the NZ flags in the mainsail are quite a miss though, as is the single orientation of the Omega logo which reads backwards on the reverse side of the jib. The grinders on the AC75 class have been replaced with “cyclors” - cycling sailors - seriously. Watching these boats racing live is quite the sight to behold. Lego did a very good job here.
As a New Zealander I was surprised to see Lego replicate the ETNZ yacht. Normally we're forgotten on the world stage, so it's pretty cool to see something from New Zealand featured in a Lego set!
I am so happy that Lego is doing another racing sailboat. To bad this one is priced much higher but it looks amazing and I can't wait to build it and hope to see more from Lego
This was the first set I have built before your webcast came out. I thought the kit was fun to build and very colorful. I like the pneumatic action of the hydrofoils. I used the 3D instructions. That was very helpful assembling the kit. The only problem I have is that the granddaughters might try to float the boat.😁. Overall, a very good kit. Looking forward to other kits using pneumatic action.
Not a set I was excited about when it was revealed, but having seen a few reviews, I actually quite like it! It's big, looks pretty good, and most of all, it's something we haven't really seen before. Yes, there was the much smaller sailing yacht, but that just doesn't compare. And the price isn't bad either, especially considering the Pneumatics. I mean, remember the 42144 Material Handler from 2 years ago? Tiny, just over 800 pieces, but despite it being unlicensed it was the same price. Almost makes you think this set isn't so much a licensed set, but more of a sponsored set 🙂
Interesting set. I know there's people talking about wanting non-car/truck/construction vehicle sets, but this kind of feels like making something to prove them wrong. Pneumatics without the storage tank are a weird choice whenever I see them - if you need to keep pumping, then it could have been a simple gearbox + crank.
But it is like that on the original boat - a lot of hydraulic systems that depend on hand cranking to generate pressure. I think that is the reason why they did it this way.
The flag is reproduced accurately @racingbrick. In vexillology, the hoist of a flag with the canton is always against the flag pole. This means that a flag may appear ‘backwards’ or ‘forwards’ depending on which direction the wind is blowing in. You see this on planes most commonly.
Folks, please read the comments before you say the same thing again and again. I even added arrows to show where the difference is, no it is not the fact that it is backwards.
@@stukay7611 no that was One Australia. Australia 2 was the 12 meter that broke NYYC’s 132 year winning streak in 1983. One Australia was an IACC Challenger that turned into a banana in 1995.
I know nothing about the boat at all, and I have no feeling nor thought about the boat as well. But what interest to me are those sponsored logo on this set, especially the Omega in particular, because I'm a Omega fan boy.⌚
Hi RacingBrick, at one point you compare this set with the ford GT car model and say it is much bigger. I am curious could you give us a weight comparison aswell? To me this model (the yacht) is big in dimensions, but it takes up a lot of volume in air in its aura aswell. So i feel unsure about it being that much bigger then the GT, which appears a sleak and compact build in comparison.
The double main sail will be useful for those making planes XD but to be honest, if it was a "plain" sail, i would have bought it... with sponsors... na
the flag is correct, on the one side it is 1:1 with original flag, on the other it is reversed replicating real flag on the wind, orientation depends wrom which side you are looking at it and it is the same on the model. The same logic as USA flag on soldiers arms
@RacingBrick The white lines on the union jack differ in thickness depending on the position of the red lines within them. They aren't centered. You're comparing the lines nearest the stars of the left "correct" flag to the lines furthest from the stars on the sail flag.
@@jimmyboy630and you're still trying to explain why I'm wrong and you're right instead of carefully examining the flags. Let me know when you find the difference.
Is the flag wrong? It looks correct to me as it is printed in the reverse direction as is common on vehicles and such. I think you would want to flip your reference image and compare again. Looks good to me
Got it! The white separates the red from touching in the middle. That is a very strange error. Maybe they felt the printer couldn’t manage that small of a detail. Apologies for the mistake!
It looks pretty great. I’m not particularly intested in boat racing or sailing team so I do ’t care for that, but it seems like a nice parts donor pack. Of course it also has lots of turqoise pieces and for example the sails which cannot be used for anything else, but even just the pneumatic parts would be quite expensive bought from Pick a Brick on legos website. I still might have to get this set… The panel pieces would be nice too.
1. It’s the New Zealand flag 2. It’s correctly printed in reverse on the starboard side 3. The actual problem is the red angled bars on the Union Jack should not meet the horizontal and vertical bars. There should be a white strip that continues between the two elements.
Agreed. It's a correct print except for the red diagonal bars being too long. And obviously, it's the flag of New Zealand and not Australia (the Austrilan flag has five white stars, not four red stars).
@@NLGeebee yeah, I’d say the flag itself looks really bad. The colours are off and there are big globby lines around the edge too. The rest of the printing looks really good though, so I don’t know how that made it past the pre-production stage. I hope Lego updates it for the next production runs.
@@Egon3kif they are modelling a boat after a real category, why wouldn't they choose a real team? Anyway, if you look for controversy, you'll find it literally everywhere. I'm just looking forward to the new teal bits showing up on Pick a Brick.
Good looking model. Abit put off when you didn't say "here is the parts list" 😂😂😂
Awesome
This set, like a few pneumatic sets, could do with an air tank like some of the old Technic sets.
Why is one sail folded and one carefully rolled in a box?! Id be bummed if i saw that folded sail
I believe you missed one of the coolest functions. Rotating mast, authentic feature of the AC 75 boats. Giving shape to the double skin mainsail.
The flag is correct btw it should always be facing like it’s blowing in the wind. This is a sailing ship thing.
